Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 30, 2018

Ethan:

We ended up working for most of today to get ready for the weekend, but have nearly-everything done now; so Ehlana and I will get to play for most of the day tomorrow.

It’s late now because the pre-cooking work went on until a bit after nine; and then Ehlana and I have been studying since finishing our Magi lesson with Mom – and while Mom and Dad have been trying to get all of their work done ahead of the weekend too; so I’m just ready to crash and nap now – even if Ehlana is too-excited to sleep yet.  I don’t want to stay up even later too, though; so that’s it for me.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

I just finished having a late-night text-chat with Cassie; it’s so great that she’s going to be home by tomorrow night – even if that’s only for the holiday weekend; and I can hardly wait to see her again!

As Ethan has already reported; we worked today.  That meant chores around the house and yard; we got each of the needed guest bedrooms ready – including the rooms that used to be ours on the second-floor; and we helped out with everything from the pre-cooking to the never-ending clean-ups from that work.  Mom let us do some of those chores with our Magi talents, so it wasn’t boring work all of the time; but we really don’t have anything exciting to write about tonight either – at least from a fun and entertainment standpoint.

I’ve been doing research-related studying tonight while Ethan’s been reading in the digital archives, and while I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep yet; I am ready to wrap this up and give it another try.

Okay, I didn’t try very hard earlier – or I’d have known to write this before trying to sleep an hour or more ago.  I really do need to get some sleep, though, so that’s all for tonight.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 29, 2018

Ethan:

It was a bit cooler today, but still a nice summer day.  Ehlana and I were at the lab this morning; we split our afternoon entertainment between helping Mom at home with the holiday weekend prep work and going out to play with our friends.  We were home again for another easy meal with some pre-cooking multi-tasking; and then Ehlana and I had Naomi and Aide with us to help out with the younger cousin entertainment while the parents were busy with their last ball practice of the summer.

Mom did a Magi lesson with the cousins, Ehlana, and me after we got back from the park; it was bath time after that; and now I’m ready to go to sleep.  We’ll be doing more work than play over the next couple of days, so that isn’t all that exciting, but we’re sure to have some late nights this weekend; so I’ll sleep while I can.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

Our friends were doing some complaining today about the work we’re all doing ahead of the holiday weekend, but we’re seven; and I just find that amusing when the guys that are complaining the most are being asked to do the least – like clean their own rooms and not trash the rest of the house.  I’m not comparing that to what’s asked of any of the rest of us, but I am suggesting that some of our friends could use a bit of perspective.

My play time at the lab was fun, and while my experiments are still failing; we do still seem to be on the right track to work out the problem we’re having with the current cold cure attempts ‘killing’ our cellular patients.  We’ll get there eventually, and the lack of successes that are part of life for researchers can be frustrating; we always learn new things that won’t just apply to the work we’re doing.  I won’t bore you with the details when I write about them in my research journals and reports, but for instance; we’re learning a lot about the differences between Magi Master immune systems and ‘normal’ human immune systems – and there is much more going on there than just our talent for self-healing.  If we could ever figure out a way to boost immune systems to our level; that could offer protection to nearly everyone from most communicable illnesses.

That’s an even tougher problem to solve than the common cold, though; so don’t expect me to solve it anytime soon.

I won’t be doing anything else tonight; since I’m tired now and need to get some sleep.  Along with the work at the lab; we helped out around the house after lunch; had a couple of hours of play time between that work and dinner; and then Mom had us help her with getting the pre-cooking work done around dinnertime and before she needed to have everything cleaned up before her co-ed ball practice.  We played with the cousins while the parents were busy with that; Mom did a cousins’ Magi lesson after that; and now she and Dad have been working in the office while Ethan and I got cleaned up and ready for bed.  We have two days left until the holiday weekend; it’s going to be great to have Cassie and Michael home; and I’m going to rest up tonight in the hopes that we’ll get to spend time with them while they’re here – along with the rest of our families and friends.

I guess that’s it for tonight, so I’ll get started on that nap time now; and then we’ll likely have a near-repeat of today on Thursday – except without the baseball fun.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 28, 2018

Ethan:

The movie, cuddle time with Naomi, and sleepover fun with our friends was great last night.  Tai Chi by the river with Naomi and Aiden was great too; and then we had a quick breakfast before our friends headed for home or the bakery and Ehlana and I went to spend the rest of the morning at the lab and archives.  We had fun playing there; we ended up going with a picnic lunch at the park with Naomi and Aiden; and then played with our friends for most of the afternoon.  A holiday weekend pre-cooking event was going on at home by the time we got back; we had an easy dinner that the kids had out on the dock while the parents multi-tasked the work and that meal; and then we all went to Ehlana and Naomi’s ball practice.  Aiden and I kept the younger cousins entertained while the parents kept working; we went for a cool-down swim after that; and then wrapped up our play evening with ice cream treats before our cousins and friends went home.

Ehlana and I took Silkie for a walk while seeing Naomi and Aiden home; did a Magi lesson with Mom while Dad got to work in the office; and now we’re cleaned up and ready for bed.  That’s all of the news I have for today, but the countdown to the end of summer holidays seems to be speeding up now that the work is getting done to be ready for our incoming guests this weekend.  Cassie will be one of those guests, so that’s going to be great and weird; though it might take until Thanksgiving or Christmas for us to really notice the changes that are sure to happen with our big sister as she makes this transition to worldly collegian!

That won’t be as dramatic as I’m implying, but let’s wrap this up now; and I’ll go and get the extra sleep tonight while I can.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

What Ethan said; Naomi and I had a really good ball practice; and now I’m going to get some rest because I’m tired and really just need to crash for the rest of the night.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 27, 2018

Ethan:

It was great to have Ehlana home again for Tai Chi, but we had some early-morning rain; and had to exercise indoors.  The rest of the day has been great; we worked at the lab and archives this morning; played with our friends all afternoon; and then Aiden and I had our last ball practice of the summer to get ready for our championship match on Saturday.  Naomi and Aiden had dinner with us too; and they’re staying for their first ‘official’ sleepover in our new rooms on the third floor.  I know, we’ve already had them over since moving upstairs, but this is the first time since our room remodels were finished.

We’ve just finished a Magi lesson with Mom and are about to get together in the lounge to watch a movie; so I need to wrap this up and get back to having fun with Ehlana and our best friends.  That isn’t a very exciting-sounding report, but we did have a good day – and I’ll be happy if we can say that about every day for the rest of the week!

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

It’s good to be home; I loved being back at the lab this morning; and the play time at home and the park was great too – including getting to show off my new room to most of my ‘town kids’ girlfriends.  Having my first sleepover with Naomi tonight is great too; and we even had fun while the boys were at their ball practice – because we opted to go biking on the trails instead.

We’re going to end our day with a movie – and some cuddle time for Naomi if she can work that out with Ethan; so that’s all I have for tonight.  The countdown is on to the end of our summer holidays; and I’m going to enjoy as much of that time with my friends and family while we can – and not worry so much about the little details – like these archive updates.  I’ll have the rest of my life to find moments of profound wisdom to share in my journals, but my advice for tonight is to get out there and have fun when you can; since there are more-important things in life than curing colds or cancer!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 26, 2018

Ethan:

Tai Chi by the river was fun this morning because I did that with Naomi, Aiden, Uncle Adam, and Aunt Leanne while Mom and Dad skipped their morning workout by the river for some unexplained reason – or at least for a reason that I’ll pretend that I don’t know.

The campout breakfast was a crazy blast of fun; there were a lot of parents there to help out with the work – and with food offerings; and then we had to rush to get to church on time.  It’s been another scorching-hot day, so Pastor John went with one of his heat-relief short services; and then it was back to Uncle Adam and Aunt Leanne’s house for the campground clean-up.  We had that done by lunchtime; had a family and neighbors barbeque lunch; and then Naomi and Aiden went on to have a play day with their own families while I came home and helped Mom, Dad, and a few extra helpers with getting Ehlana’s room finished.  That was mostly furniture moves and unpacking Ehlana’s things from her old room; we had that done by the time Grandma and Grandpa got home; and then we helped them with some work around their house – including unloading their minivan – before heading to the Inn for dinner.

Violet and Dillon met us at the Inn with Ehlana, Brianna, and Faith; we had an amazing time at the buffet; and then we eventually ended up at home with Grandma and Grandpa so that we could have a visit with them – and also have a telepathic visit with Cassie, Michael, Rowen, and Tim.  That was fun – and so was the big room reveal with Ehlana.  I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, though, so while Ehlana and I had a bedtime chat after our baths – and after saying goodnight to grandma and grandpa; we’re both ready to get some sleep before getting back to our normal life again on Monday – though I guess we’ve only got a week left of summer-normal before we’ll be back at school again.

I’ve also skipped the rest of the camping news; so I’d better do that before I move on.  After my last update, Naomi and I had that bedtime vid-chat with Ehlana; Naomi kissed me goodnight for Ehlana – which I’m sure is why Ehlana suggested it to her; and no, that is not how my sister kisses me and never will – at any age!  We went back to the campfire; Naomi decided that my reputation could take the hit; so she sat and cuddled with me while we joined in on the music, listened to the campfire stories from the teens, and toasted treats over the fire.  The ‘kids’ were sent to bed in waves from youngest to pre-teens; Aiden and I were in the first wave because we needed to help get Zack and Eli settled down; and then we eventually got to sleep sometime after midnight but before one o’clock.  There was another goodnight kiss for me from Naomi, but she got away with that one because I was the only boy she caught while chasing Zack and Eli off with threats of kisses and girl germs; so she got away with that one right out in public, and it worked out for me; since Zack and Eli pretended that they needed to stay away from me so that they wouldn’t catch the girls germs that she’d ‘infected’ me with.

Okay, that’s it; and I’m going to get some sleep now.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

Brianna and I started our day with Tai Chi by the pool and a swim again today.  I should also mention that I love swimming in the river at home, so chlorine in pools takes some getting used to for me, but I also like the warmer, cleaner water; and it’s a bonus that you never have to fight the current to swim home again if you happen to swim or float downriver!

Uncle Rick and Aunt Melissa made another great breakfast for us; we packed up and then headed for church; and the only comment I’ll make about that is to assure you that I’m very grateful to have a home church that has a plan for their younger kids even in the summer.  I’m a junior Magi Master with a rather special, personal relationship with God, and I’m reasonably-bright too; but now I totally understand why some grown-ups – and most kids – fall asleep during church services and sermons! ;^)

Moving along, Violet and Dillon got to town in time to go out for lunch with us; they had a visit with her parents, grandparents, and sister; and then we had to head for home so that we could get there in time for the dinner buffet with the family.  That was a long drive, but we had fun with Violet and Dillon – including with the ice cream snack break in Crystal Springs before pushing on the rest of the way home; and then we had a lot of fun with the family reunion – especially with grandma and grandpa being home from China!

I’d tell you that grandpa’s travel stories, that dinner, or the Woodvale fun parts of my day were the highlights, but getting to see my new, finished room tops that list for today.  My room is amazing; and Ethan and I are going to love being on the third floor and having such an amazing place to hang out with our friends!

Okay, we also had a telepathic chat with Cassie, Michael, Rowen, and Tim as part of our story time with grandma and Grandpa; Ethan and I had baths after they went home; and then we just finished having a long bedtime chat after being apart for two days – which is a long time for twins; or at least it is for us.  We’re going to get back to our work and play schedule in the morning, and I do want to be at the lab a lot this week before we’ll be back to school next week; so it’s time to wrap this up and get some sleep.

This has been a really great weekend, and while my life isn’t as exciting as Cassie’s is right now; I’ll still pick being home with our family and friends over going away to college early – like a certain Dark Magi Master will be doing when she heads off to Princeton next month.  I should write about that someday soon too, but not tonight; since I don’t want thinking about Gwyneth Hathorne to mess up my first night in this amazing room!

I’m going to cuddle with Silkie – since she picked me tonight after not seeing me since Friday morning; get some sleep; and then start what will, hopefully, be an amazing final week of our summer holidays!
