Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - April 30, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Our thoughts are looking to the future tonight as we wrap up April and get ready for what feels like a major change in our lives.  Yes, part of that is definitely foresight and connected to Cassie and Michael, but we won’t get into that tonight.  We can look ahead to the coming week, though, and in addition to getting ready for Cassie and Michael coming home, we also want to mention that we’ll be helping out with getting an apartment ready for Rowen and Tim – in the riverside apartment building.  They won’t be here tomorrow for the start of their new lease, but Mom will help Patricia and Tracey; and they’ll get the work started that is going to include some painting and other work; furniture deliveries – including gifts from our family; and more.  We have more work to be done at Cassie and Michael’s house too; so we’ll be doing more work over the next two weeks – including some babysitting when needed to help out that way instead of with the work at the house or apartment.

There is going to be a lot more on those stories and more from other returning collegians, so stay tuned for that; and we’ll move on to cover the news around here since our last update.

Let’s not get into the details from last night.  We had a lot of fun, but helping out with the younger kids was also exhausting.  Whether that was running around with them outside or getting through a sometimes-messy dinner or with the video gaming and movie time at the Ayres’ home; we were very busy.  The kid-tween-teen split ended up being the plan, so we helped out with the kids at the Ayres’ home until after eleven o’clock before we – the teens and tweens – came home to our house.  By then, we were all pretty much down to the level of being able to handle a long bedtime chat, snacks, and music videos before most of us split up and went to get some sleep.  There were not any co-ed sleepovers; and only a few teens stayed up later to keep the chat time going in the lounge.

The lack of sleep affected a lot of us this morning, but we didn’t have time to be tired.  Tai Chi by the river helped some of us, and then we needed to kick the work into high gear again for a while as we took turns getting ready for the day; cooking breakfast; enjoying that meal; and then cleaning up again.  We had parental help and extra diners here for that while other adults helped Uncle Nick and Aunt Deborah with the kids at their house.  We all eventually got to church on-time; and we had extra fun with our cousins and friends during the service and at Sunday school.  After church, it was time for more work to get ready for another major meal; and that one was at the Ayres’ home again – mostly because we didn’t want to do that at Josiah and Christina’s house and make their day tougher than it already was with a new baby and a gang of family.  We helped out with some of the pre-lunch work and the clean-up after we had that meal with a gang of kids; and then we spent the afternoon switching between helping to get kids ready to travel and keeping them entertained with more outdoor play time.  It wasn’t as warm today, so we didn’t do much by the river, but we went for a bike ride and some playground fun at the park.  Everything seemed to be a blast of cameo moments and made for another long day; so we were good with the plan to go to the late buffet at the Inn for dinner.  We were still on kid control for that meal, but didn’t have any extra cousins by then; since none of the visiting parents with kids wanted to stay that late on a school night and then still need to drive home.

We haven’t written about Christopher yet, so we should mention that he made his community debut at church this morning; and he was at the Inn for that dinner too – though he slept through more than half of it – allowing his parents to enjoy the great food and break.  We helped too, since Mariah spent some of that time with us; and we were glad to help out.  The food fun was our last ‘family’ even of the day and weekend; so Mom and Dad took us home – and then we got to work on some chores around the house – including laundry and cleaning up guest rooms and bathrooms.  Dad had some work to do in the office, so the rest of us took care of the house work; and then bath or Jacuzzi time was needed after another very busy, sometimes-messy day.

That brings us to now.  We’re winding down with a longer bedtime twin chat and computing session, but we’re nearly finished now; and ready to crash and get some sleep.  It isn’t quite May yet, but that isn’t far away; so we really need to get some sleep now.  The fun level might come down a bit by morning, but that won’t keep us from getting more-excited about all of the awesome coming our way.  We want to be at full-power to be ready for those adventures; so we’re out of here!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - April 29, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

We had a blast last night with what ended up being a short bike ride followed by a lot of kid play time on either side of a family-and-friends’ dinner as quite a few members of the Johnson clan came home for the weekend and we helped to keep the kids entertained.  Along with the outdoor fun, we also hosted a movie night that was both in the living room and lounge; and that allowed the families to take turns visiting with Christina and her family and new baby.  For the record, babies are not boring, but Christopher did not impress most of his kid-cousins for very long beyond getting to meet him; and that’s why we were needed to keep them busy the rest of the time.

While a major sleepover was considered for last night, we didn’t end up doing that because the Johnson clan cousins opted for quieter options – with Leah, Sebastian, Zack, and Brianna getting most of the kids at their homes.  That worked for us, since we got to do a co-ed sofa sleepover with Naomi and Aiden; and they were very happy to do that with us too!  Getting to start today with them was great too from waking up in pairs through Tai Chi by the river with Mom and Dad and then a hot breakfast-for-six.  There were chores to do after that, and we kept busy at three homes until late-morning, but then we helped out with another major meal that the Carringtons hosted; and then we’ve been on kid-duty since then.

It is now late-afternoon, and we’re getting cleaned up before helping with the dinner prep work.  There is a good chance that the sleepovers tonight will be for teens and tweens here and younger kids at the Ayres’ home, but whatever we decide, we’ll be helping out with the kids all evening anyway; and don’t expect to have time for any computing again tonight.  We have had a happy afternoon that included canoe rides, biking, and park playground adventures.  That trend is sure to continue tonight; so we’ll have all of those stories for you in a month-end update tomorrow night!  For now, we need to get back to work, so that’s all for this report.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - April 28, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 21st Birthday, Emma Norton!

We didn’t have any involvement in Emma’s special day since she’s away at college anyway; and we’ll hope that her family and friends are helping her out with having an awesome day.

Our top news of the day is that our teacher, Alicia Warren, is starting her maternity leave as of now; and we’ll have a temp teacher for the rest of the term starting on Monday.  Alicia – Mrs. Warren – is fine, but her due date is soon; and her doctors have encouraged her to stop working now instead of trying to push right to the end.  We’ll have more on her soon-enough, but other than mentioning a small after-school party for her and some gifts her students had for her – including from us; that’s all we have for that story so far today.

While we had fun with our last day of school with Mrs. Warren, and the weather allowed for some outdoor time too, we’re just getting to the start of the best parts of our day – and this update is early because we might not get time for any late-night computing.  We’re about to go out to play and bike with our friends, but that fun will need to be flexible as we’re expecting incoming weekend guests.  That isn’t specifically for us, but Mom has drafted us – and Naomi and Aiden – to help out with the younger cousins.  That’s going to include the hometown kids as well as the Johnson and McEwan cousins, so we’ll be busy with that for a lot of the weekend; and we’re also going to keep Naomi and Aiden with us tonight and possibly tomorrow night too – especially if we have some extra cousins and younger kids with us for one or both nights.

That news and the rest of our story for today can wait for our next report; since we really need to move on and get to the play time and biking while we can.  Stay tuned for that; and we’ll get out there and live those adventures now!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - April 27, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Congratulations to Christina, Josiah, and the Palmer and Johnson-McEwan clans – it’s a boy!  Christopher Palmer was born at ten-twenty-eight this morning; he’s a healthy seven pounds and twelve ounces; and joins his sister, Mariah, in the ‘home-grown’ Magi Master club!

That is our top news of the day; and we didn’t get to help out at all – though Mom did get called to the clinic to help out with the shielding; and her help was needed along with the Palmers that joined in on those efforts too.

Compared to that, our day has been uneventful.  The weather was good with a high that was again in the mid-sixties, so we had some outdoor time at school.  We didn’t play after school because we helped out with the younger kids in a handful of families while the parents were busy with the Palmers.  We had extra kids at our house for dinner, but not a major family event; since Christina was not ready to head home that soon even after some healing help from Mom and Uncle Adam.  The Palmers are home tonight, and we did get to meet Christopher for a few moments, but we really did stay out of the loop most of the time.  We did have fun with our cousins and the other kids, but that also tired us out and we were ready for the break once they all headed for their homes by around nine o’clock.  Naomi and Aiden went home then too.

Our night wasn’t over then, but before we get to the nightly wrap-up, you might have noticed that we didn’t mention game night at the Inn.  We didn’t go there tonight, and from what we heard; neither did very many others – which is why the gaming was traded for a snack and social hour.  As for the rest of our day, we had a bedtime snack and visit with Mom and Dad that included the latest update for Christopher and his family; bath or Jacuzzi time followed that; and now we’re winding down toward nap time with our computing and twin chat fun.  We didn’t get any work done tonight, but the family help and fun was important too; and we’re glad that we could do that; and we’re almost as happy as we are tired! ;^)

The second part of that is why we’re going to call it a night, so stay tuned as we head into the weekend while we go and get some sleep; since we’re expecting a lot of fun with the Johnson clan that we expect to visit and meet the newest addition to their family!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
