Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 30, 2018

Ethan:

It’s the last day of September, and I’ll pretend that the news of the day was the nice, warm weather; since I don’t want to write about kid-free nights for parents or co-ed sleepovers for college teens.

For my news, I had fun last night with Aiden and his family.  That started with the bonus play time with Ehlana and Naomi while we waited for parents to get home from work; we biked the trail around the south side of town, but not up to the park; got home by the time the parents did; and split up for the rest of the night.  Aiden and I had dinner with his parents, sister, and her sleepover guest for the night; Leah.  There may occasionally be collusion among the parents for getting those kid-free nights that I don’t want to write about, since my parents weren’t the only couple without kids last night; but let’s not go there either.

Dinner was Pizzeria pizza and bakery treats; Aiden and I joined in for a family movie; and then moved on to our video games after we all came up to our beds for the night.  I know, it was Saturday night, but Aiden’s Dad is used to going to bed and then waking very early; so this was a late night for him!

Aiden and I stayed awake late; we still woke early-enough for Tai Chi by the river; and then we were busy through to lunchtime with breakfast, getting ready for the day, and church.  We had fun with all of that; Aiden and Naomi had their own plans for the day with their families; so we split up after church; and Ehlana and I spent the rest of the day with our family.  That included a barbeque lunch; some play time and biking at the park; a visit for Ehlana and me to the lab with Uncle Adam and Dillon for a couple of hours; and the late buffet at the Inn.  We came home with Mom and Dad after that; did some studying and a Magi lesson; and wrapped up our day with some tub or Jacuzzi time.

That’s my news for the day and I’m ready to get some sleep now; so this report – and September – is over.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

Maybe Naomi and I messed up the kid-free night schedule, but I think her parents were happy to trade me for Eli while Zack had Eli, Sebastian, and Caleb at his house last night; and Brianna had Faith while her aunts and uncles got kid-free nights.  Unlike Ethan, I don’t mind adding that our parents went out to dinner and the pub while we were away; but I don’t need to write about their adult-rated play time after they got home and had the house to themselves.  Yes, that’s weird for most kids to even think about with their parents – especially when you’re seven and not thinking about that sort of thing at all; but we should all be glad to know that those activities don’t end with the onset of parenthood – especially for those of us who are not first-born! ;^)

Naomi and I had a slightly different night than Ethan and Aiden.  We watched a movie with Naomi’s parents too, but then Liz had some hair fun with us after that; and then a fun girl chat before bedtime.  We didn’t stay up late; and got a really good night of sleep without any little brother and his best friend prank or spying issues.  Our Tai Chi this morning was in the back yard instead of by the river, but the rest of our morning was near the same as Ethan’s – especially since we did everything together once at church and reunited.  Ethan’s already covered the family play time for the rest of the day, so the only thing I have to add for that is to mention that the lab visit was supposed to be shorter – just a check of the plants in the greenhouse and a check on some running experiments; but we got distracted and played in the lab for as long as we could before dinner at the Inn.

That’s all of my news for today too, and while I don’t need the sleep as much as Ethan does right now; I’m happy to get the rest when I can; so I’m out of here too.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 29, 2018

Ethan:

Happy 18th Birthday, Michael!

Extreme outdoor play time with rock climbing, mountain biking, and caving; lunch and dinner out; and a movie at a theater has likely been a lot more fun for Michael, Cassie, Rowen, and Tim than our chores and fall clean-up day has been here.

Ehlana and I are having sleepovers with Naomi and Aiden – at their houses, though, and we’ll be heading over to their houses soon now that the work is done for the day; so Mom and Dad get another kid-free night.  Let’s not comment more on that, and I don’t really have any news from all of the work today either; so I guess that’s it and I’ll get on with the play part of my day starting right now.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

Happy Birthday, Michael!

Yes, I’m echoing that when Ethan’s already mentioned it, but even when we can’t be there to help with the celebration; Michael is a fairly-important part of our lives since Cassie does plan on keeping him forever! ;^)

Ethan’s also right that our day around here hasn’t been nearly as exciting as Cassie has been trying to make Michael’s life today; and I won’t scare him by suggesting that her plans for that extended beyond that visit to the movie theater to include a roommate swap at their townhouses.  That might scare Ethan now; but I don’t think he’ll have a problem with that sort of thing once we’re a bit older and Naomi convinces him otherwise!

Moving along, the only other news I have is that we’ll start our night out at Naomi’s until Aiden’s parents are done at the bakery; and there may be some trail riding involved; since Naomi’s Mom will still be at the salon for a bit longer too.

I am packed and ready to go, though, and don’t have anything else to report for the hometown news; so I guess I’m out of here too.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 28, 2018

Ethan:

The news of the day is that our school football team won tonight.  We went to watch the game tonight; so it was more-fun to get the home win, and while our team has returned to something closer to their long-term normal for how good they are; they’ll keep getting lots of support from their families and friends – and I’m not just saying that because we really don’t have all that many regular entertainment options around here in our little town! ;^)

Moving along, we had a good day at school; worked at the lab after that until dinnertime; and then went to the game.  Ehlana and I had fun there with some of our favorite adults and our friends; and now it’s time to get some sleep ahead of a fall clean-up kind of chores day.  That’s all of my news for today; so I’ll wrap this up now and get on with the nap time.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

As usual, Ethan’s covered the news of the day ahead of me, but while I don’t have anything to add to his news of the day for home; I am thinking about Michael’s eighteenth birthday tomorrow – the first we’ll miss out on since we were born.  Cassie will make sure that he has a happy day, and we left gifts for him while there on our shopping trip, but it still feels strange to me; and I’ll miss not getting to see them in person tomorrow.

We will have a vid-chat with them, though, and I o need to get some sleep to be ready for those chores Ethan mentioned; so I won’t go on about another wave of missing Cassie and Michael; and just go and get some sleep now instead.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 27, 2018

Ethan:

Game night at the Inn was the entertainment highlight of the day for us, but the news of the day was the dropping temperature – particularly at night – that has the farmers worried about frost issues for some of the fall harvest crops.  It definitely feels like fall when we go out for Tai Chi and the temperature is barely above freezing, but we’ll still pick outdoors exercises by the river over working out indoors for as long as we can before we’ll be inside for the winter.

Yes, we could still exercise outdoors, but unless you’ve tried Tai Chi in a snowsuit; don’t make fun of us for doing those workouts indoors from late-fall until sometime in the spring.

It was another quiet day at school; Ehlana and I were back in the lab and archives after that until dinnertime; and we had to be home on-time for that so we could get to the Inn for game night.  We played there for a couple of hours; came home to do some studying, work, and a Magi lesson; and then Ehlana and I were sent up to bed.  That’s where I’m at now; I’m ready to sleep; and that’s all of my news for today.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

I’d say that pretty much covers the basics, Ethan.  Thanks; I’m ready to get some sleep too; and maybe we’ll manage to have more interesting things to write about this weekend!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 26, 2018

Ethan:

Sometimes, even junior Magi Masters have a quiet week; and we seem to be doing that this week.

I have no real news at all for today.  We had a normal Wednesday at school; we had some play time after school with Aiden, Naomi, and some of our friends that included biking at the park; and then Mom went over to the lab with us after dinner for some play time there instead of working at home – and that gave Dad some quiet to do his work in the office.

Now it’s time to crash and nap; so that’s all I have for today.

Ehlana:

I don’t want to just go with Ethan’s report again tonight without adding anything; so here’s my news of the day – that has nothing to do with us at all! ;^)

Cassie apparently had some added fun yesterday with an introductory lab for interpreters and translators instead of one of her other classes.  She thinks that the lab was as much about dissuading some students and encouraging others to go into the interpreter program, but I’m sure that nobody will be surprised to find out that she did brilliantly and scored one hundred percent on her demonstration interpretations and translations.  It really isn’t that complicated, since the technology is cool but not really harder to use than any computer with a decent audio-video software package and a good microphone, but the interpreting and translating on the fly does take a talent that Cassie has more of than possibly anyone.

She is going to keep impressing everyone at college, and I’ll keep you posted on that news; but I really don’t have anything to add from home; so that’s all for tonight.
