Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 31, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

Our last day of August has been a good one – especially for the girls involved in the back-to-school shopping trip today.  Mom and Aunt Leanne didn’t try to do a major event this time, but we still did a breakfast at the Inn; and had a small convoy of vehicles heading toward the city after that awesome meal break that included shoppers that weren’t officially part of ‘our’ gang.  The shopping was definitely better for the teen, tween, and kid girls.  For me, the fun level was limited because Aiden and I were put together with Zack and Eli; and they were more-interested in goofing off and annoying the girls than in getting new clothes for school and the fall.  We did our best to run interference and keep them out of trouble, but since we’re not allowed to use our Magi talents in public; there was only so much we could do! ;^)

We did eventually get some new clothes and shoes, the usual gifts for upcoming birthdays and other celebrations, and the bulk supplies that we usually get during trips to the city.  Let’s not mention the food court lunch that was a bit of a disaster thanks to the top-two pranksters in the mall; and we were good with getting fast food to go after leaving Wal-Mart.  When we got home, a few of the Moms and daughters opted for a quick last round of shopping fun at Palmer’s and Taylor’s stores, but we had Dads around to help us with unloading the minivans; and I was really glad for a break from Zack and Eli by then.  So was Aiden; and that’s why he headed for his own home as soon as possible.  Mom and Ehlana were on their own when they got home – except for a stop for goodnight hugs and kisses from Naomi that yes, was mostly for me.  We were all tired by then, so our bedtime chat was short and then three of us were in need of bath or Jacuzzi time.

Let’s not comment on what Dad was interested in helping Mom with while using their Jacuzzi! ;^)

Quit laughing, Ehlana – one of us doesn’t need to think about whether my perspective would be different if Naomi had been using your Jacuzzi tonight too!”

Moving along, that’s all we – or I – have for this update.  While Ehlana goes to sleep now; I’ll likely go to my room and stare at the ceiling and try not to think about Naomi and Jacuzzis for the next hour or six!

Thanks so much, sis!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 30, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

After taking Monday off for Faith’s birthday adventures, and despite another awesome weather day, we played at the lab or archives this morning; hooked up with our friends to bike and swim this afternoon; and then our baseball practices were fairly-serious as we got ready for the championship games this weekend.  The Pizzeria pizza picnic dinner was a highlight of the day; and then our evening has included a Magi lesson with Mom; some work in the office; and bath or Jacuzzi time.  Now we’re ready to get some sleep because we’ll be busy with a comparatively-small back-to-school shopping trip tomorrow; and we want to be ready for another day of fun with our family and friends.

That’s also all we have; so going to sleep right now works for us!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 29, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 6th Birthday, Faith!

Congratulations Alicia and Doug Warren – you’re pregnant!

Faith’s birthday adventures are our top news of the day, and thanks to some help from Mother Nature; the little blast of thunderstorms that we had roll through town didn’t really dampen the fun at all.  We ended up taking the entire day off from chores or the lab.  Mom had us help with keeping the younger cousins entertained all morning while she helped out with getting everything ready for Faith’s party.  This year, instead of going to Quarry Lake, the party was at the Everetts; and we continued to help out with everything from supervising kids during lunch and dinner and leading the games and contests that included everything from water balloons to canoe races.  It was really hot this afternoon, so swimming breaks were required; and we’ll skip commenting on the ice cream breaks that required dunking kids in the river and clothing changes.  We’ll also only mention that Zack and Eli were in fine form; and leave it at that.

Faith’s birthday dinner was indoors due to the timing of that thunderstorm and some lingering rain, but that worked out okay; and the kitchen and dining areas were only a little crowded with all of the kids, parents, and other friends in the house.  It dried up enough by dusk that the outdoor movie entertainment was still a go; Faith picked the new Minions movie; and we ended up with a very large audience with all of the neighbors and friends that joined in for the fun once the show started.  Uncle Mark and Aunt Grace might have run out of snacks with all of the unplanned for movie fans, but food and drinks were brought along; and there actually ended up being leftovers.

We just finished with packing up our gear from the movie, and while Faith has six friends spending the night; we’re glad to be home and not doing anything more for the rest of the night – other than going for bath or Jacuzzi breaks.

We’re doing this update first because we don’t expect to be interested in any computing by the time we’re cleaned up and ready for bed.  We’ve had a blast – even while being helpers more than party guests, but our cousins and their friends have also tired us out; so we need to get some sleep and re-charge.

Before we move on, we also need to add to the pregnancy announcement; since that has been a top story around town today.  This is Alicia’s second pregnancy; she’s healthy; and the Warren family is especially-excited; since Jen is due in December and they’ll have cousins close to the same age.

Okay, that’s enough for tonight.  It is already getting late, and we do still need to get cleaned up after a hot, messy day; so we’re out of here and off to do that now!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 28, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

We don’t really have any news for today.  Our morning was good – including church and Sunday school; we opted for a quiet afternoon with a bit of canoeing and swimming to go along with a lot of relaxing in the back yard while enjoying another mostly-sunny day; and our evening included an easy-meal with Mom and Dad; a bit of work in the office and a Magi lesson; and bath or Jacuzzi time.

Now we’re ready to crash and nap, and can do that; so we will!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 27, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

Our top news of the day is that we spent a lot of the day at Quarry Lake with our families and friends!  We also got to be part of the group that spent part of our morning biking the trail out to the campground; and then the rest of our day campers caught up with us by lunchtime – including the ball players and supporters that stayed for Sebastian and Caleb’s game that they – and the Marshals – won over the Rangers.  The picnic lunch by the beach included an awesome mix of everything from cold chicken and subs to ten different salads and snacks; so that was great; and then all of the water play time was a perfect way to spend a hot summer day.  The campground was very busy, so we decided to stay away from the busiest attractions – like the rock wall and zip line, but we had bonus fun with our youngest cousins and their friends; and that included extra time with some of our favorite parents.

Yes, that included our own; and we’re okay with everyone knowing that we love hanging out with them – even when that can get a bit weird for us.  We really don’t want to go there, but for the record, while Mom usually gets the attention and comedic moments because she’s beautiful and looks so young; Dad gets his fair share of attention from other women – especially when he’s in a swimsuit and they might not know about his lawyer secret identity! ;^)

Moving along, we really had a blast today; and then only about half of the morning bikers rode back to town with us while the rest opted to get rides and put their bikes in the backs of trucks for the trip back to town.  We loved the biking fun; needed to go for a long cool-down swim after that; and then the Carringtons and Seagers co-hosted a barbeque, pot-luck dinner that was the last blast of group entertainment tonight.  We’re doing our own thing tonight with Mom and Dad – and that has included bath or Jacuzzi time, a music practice for two of us, and what will now be an early bedtime for us.  Let’s not comment on what Mom and Dad might be doing with their no-sleep early bedtime plans!

On that note, while wishing we hadn’t gone there; we’re out of here and off to nap time soon.
