Cassie's Journal - April 30, 2018

There’s a lot of news for today, but let’s begin with my own top story; since I’ve made a fairly-large purchase that is easily the most money I’ve ever spent on myself so far!

No, I did not do that at Palmer’s, though I’m sure that Abby would’ve been happy if I had – this purchase was at Landry’s; and I placed a custom order for the new car that Michael and I will be using for the next five years or so while we’re at college.  A few people around here will be surprised about that – and the fact that I’ll be paying cash for it, but I have earned the money I do have; and having a dependable car to commute with is going to be important – even if we will have a future mechanic with us while we’re away at school.  I’m not going to brag about the car I chose.  It is a four-door sedan, but reasonably-sporty; and will not be embarrassing for Michael to drive even if it isn’t as cool as Tim’s Corvette.  Tm’s Mom was happy to put that order in for me; I had to put twenty percent down for the deposit; and it’ll be here in time for me to use it this summer.

Yes, I could’ve bought something off the lot, but I have time; don’t need the car until the end of June; and I didn’t want my first car to be something I wasn’t going to be happy with; since most of the cars, trucks, and vans that Landry’s carries in-stock are geared toward a small-town and farming community.  I’ll be in the city and doing the long, highway commutes; and want to be comfortable while doing that – while also getting around on a budget.  I know, that’s way too-practical, but it’s the way I am; and even Tim will be glad that we have the extra space in my car; since his Corvette doesn’t exactly have a lot of luggage space!

That’s enough about my one-stop, major shopping adventure.  The next top news of the day is that we’re having a camping night – a choice that we made at dinnertime – a multi-family barbeque and pot-luck meal that was put together while I was busy buying my new car.  Michael, Ethan, Ehlana and I have our best friends with us for the night; and we have girls and boys tents for this first backyard camping adventure of the year.  We set up the tents while Ethan and Aiden were at their first baseball practice of the season; with the ‘we’ being Michael, Tim, Rowen, and me because the parents and younger kids went to the school ball diamond to watch that practice – or hang out at the playground with Zack, Brianna, and some of the other cousins and their friends.

This was a great day for the start of baseball ‘training camp’ as the temperature was in the eighties when they headed for the school; and we’re only going to have lows in the sixties overnight.  After setting up the tents, we got our bikes; met up with the twins, Naomi, and Aiden by the time the practice ended; and went biking.  We took the trail from the east-end of town around to the park; rode the trails for an hour; and then came home with stops for overnight bags for our friends.  We’re not doing a campfire or anything like that, but we aren’t quite done with the play time before we’ll head for our tents and sleeping bags – which is why I’m doing this update and a bit of must-do work while getting cleaned up and ready for our camping adventure.  I’ll have to do some work and studying catch-up over the next couple of days, but the play time will be worth a couple of late nights – and I will have the usual Wednesday work night to help with the extra work I won’t get finished tonight.

As for the rest of my day, we had a good morning at home; a fun day at school that included bonus outdoor time for two classes and at lunchtime thanks to the nice weather; and that’s about all there is to say about those hours because we really just had fun and didn’t do anything particularly-exciting.

I’m going to get back to having more of both of those things right now, though, and you can read all about the rest of my adventures for today with the next update; so, until next time...

Cassie's Journal - April 29, 2018

We’ve had a good day with some really nice weather, but I’ve also been working hard; need to get to sleep; and will be keeping this update very short.

Tai Chi was by the river; breakfast was at Michael’s with Jake, Stephanie, Rebecca, and Lucas joining us for that meal; and then we had a good morning at church.  Michael had to get to the Inn after Sunday school, but I went to the pizzeria with Rebecca, Lucas, and Jen for a look-around; came home for lunch; and then worked all afternoon in the office with Dad while Mom had a play afternoon with Ethan, Ehlana, and a small gang of family and friends.  Michael and I did our homework during his afternoon break; and then we were both at the Inn for the buffets-to-close shift.  We had a good turnout for both buffet sittings despite the nice weather that had lots of families cooking outdoors, but we also managed to get the Inn cleaned and came home by a bit after ten o’clock.

I walked Michael home; did a Magi lesson with Mom; and then got back to my work and studying to finish up what I’d started during the afternoon.  A time phase helped me out with getting finished comparatively-early for a Sunday night, but that still adds up and wears me down; so I’ll need the extra sleep.  Michael and I didn’t get to enjoy much of the warm and sun today, but we got to spend some time with Rebecca and Lucas; I enjoyed the work and chat time with Dad; and we had a good, if busy, night at the Inn.  A bit of Michael and me alone time would have been nice, but we’ll try to make up for that while we’re away on our senior trip.

That sounds like a good thought to take along with me into dreamland, and I really have had enough fun for today anyway; so, until next time...

Cassie's Journal - April 28, 2018

Happy 16th Birthday, Emma!

I’ve had a busy day, and need to get some sleep, but have a lot to cover with this update; so let’s get right at it.

Michael and I worked the breakfast shift; I worked on chores at home for the rest of the morning; and then Michael and I headed out to the Norton farm after he worked the lunch shift so that we could spend a few hours out there helping Emma with celebrating her special day.  Lucas, Rebecca, and Jenny – sorry, Jen – came home so that Lucas could be here for Emma’s birthday too and despite the fact that they’re getting ready for their final exams for the semester too.  Rebecca and Jen are here for another reason; so I’ll take that side-trip now and include the pizzeria update.

I haven’t written about it in a while, but the work on their pizzeria has been moving along; and the finishing touches will be happening over this finally month before they’ll be opening in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.  Michael and I will be helping out when we can; but their contractor is dealing with most of the work – and Rebecca and Jen just communicate with him by phone and video chats while they’re busy at school too.  Michael and I got to talk with Rebecca about the pizzeria a bit today; and the work is enough ahead of schedule that they may be able to open a few days early – though they haven’t decided on that yet.  They’ll definitely need help when they open for business, though, so Michael and I won’t just be helping out with things like a final clean-up and getting the pizzeria stocked and ready for business – we’ll learn how to make the pizzas so that we can help with the first rush of business they’re sure to have with the first fast-food business in town!

That’s going to be fun, and so was Emma’s party; so we had a really good afternoon before heading back to town and going to work the dinner-to-close shift at the Inn while some of our co-workers were at Emma’s party instead.  It would have been nice to have the night off too, but we need to help out now because Michael [‘s parents will be busier in a couple of weeks while we’re away on the senior class trip.  I’ll write more on that as we get closer to that trip, but we will put in more time at the Inn now to make up for the extra work the adults and younger teens will need to put in during that week.

We had a busy dinner shift and a full Inn for the night; so we had yet another late night and I didn’t get home until a bit after eleven.  Going out to the Norton farm again was an option, but we were both just too-tired to go out and play again – especially when we’ll be working the buffet-to-close shift tomorrow too.  That’s also why I walked Michael home instead of bringing him home with me.  A sofa sleepover would have been really nice, but it’s time to save them up for when we’ll really want them over the last few months we have before heading off to college.

Now that’s an exciting and scary thought!  We really are down to just a few months before we’ll be getting our townhouses at the first of August and then moving away from home for the next five years!  Note to me – keeping trying to make more time for my family and friends whenever possible while I can still do that!

I should also make more time to sleep, and can do that now if I just get to it instead of rambling on with this update; so, until next time...

Cassie's Journal - April 27, 2018

We had great weather today with the temperature climbing into the low-seventies again!  Michael and I got to enjoy a bit of that nice weather while at school and for a short break between school and the dinner-to-close shift; but we have pretty much worked for the rest of the day.  I still had fun working with Miranda, Stephanie, and the servers – and with Michael when we could have a moment or two together, but the Inn was busy too; and we worked until nearly-eleven o’clock before I walked him home and then continued on to my house after we did our goodnight hugs and kisses on his front porch.

Dad’s home from the city, but he didn’t manage to stay awake until I got home; so I’ll have to see him in the morning.  I did have a bedtime visit with Mom, Ethan, and Ehlana; and then came up to my room because Michael and I have to work the breakfast shift.  I still have time to get some sleep before doing that, and don’t really have anything else to add to this report; so, until next time...

Cassie's Journal - April 26, 2018

We had another return to the nice weather after the rain, though not quite as warm – but still nice.

I didn’t enjoy much of that sunny goodness because I was busy at school; worked after school to get my family business work done before Michael got here after he was done the dinner shift; and then we did our homework, had a music practice, and a minor make-out session while Mom was at the Inn winning the senior championship with Miranda.  Mom did a Magi lesson with us after she got home with the twins; Michael went home after that; and I had a bedtime chat with Ethan and Ehlana before coming up to my room for the night.  I still had my language studies to do once I was tucked in with Mandy; sped through that with a bit of time phasing; and now I’m ready to crash and nap even though I’ll be doing that before midnight thanks to the earlier work.

That might not make any sense, but I’m burned out even without the usual late night that I usually have on Thursdays.  Sleeping is an option, though; so I’m just going to wrap this up and get to it.

Until next time...
