Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - April 30, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

The rain ended early this morning, so while the ground was wet; Tai Chi by the river was an option – and was by the river because we exercised with the Carringtons in their back yard!  That made for a fun start to our day; Naomi’s parents fed us a hot breakfast; and then it was time for chores at our respective homes.  Mom and Dad put us to work right away after getting home; we did most of the dirtiest work first; mowed the lawn after it dried up enough for that; and then we wrapped up the work at one-thirty.  We had a late lunch; met up with our best friends after that meal and the clean-up; and spent the rest of the afternoon biking and playing with our friends.  That was fun, and now we’re transitioning from the play time to packing for another sleepover – this one at Aiden’s house.

That news will need to wait for our next update, but we can write about our most-recent sleepover.  Aiden was just ahead of us getting to Naomi’s house yesterday afternoon, so when we got there; we jumped right into some music play time.  We haven’t mentioned Naomi’s newest musical interest in our journals yet, but she is learning to play trumpet with a borrowed trumpet – Tim’s; and she wants to be ready for taking instrumental music in Grade Seven.  She would really love to join the school band right away too; so she’s serious about learning a lot by September.  She played for us a bit while having that music fun; I took a turn too; and will take up the trumpet for high school too because that’s what Naomi wants; and I’m okay with doing that for her! ;^)

For the record, Ehlana does not want to play trumpet – she’ll probably go with learning the flute and piccolo while Aiden might end up with percussion unless too many of our classmates want to do that too.  Yes, he is already a talented drummer and has that advantage, but could learn to play anything; and that isn’t necessarily-true for some of our friends.

Moving along, we didn’t have a lot of time to play before helping Naomi’s Dad with making dinner; her Mom took a break and came home for that meal before heading back to the salon until close; and we took care of the clean-up.  We probably should have run over and done that work at the Carrington’s too, since we owe Uncle Adam and Aunt Leanne for taking Eli last night so that we didn’t have Eli and Zack with us, but we didn’t do that; and enjoyed our quieter evening that included some video gaming with Naomi’s Dad; a movie and co-ed cuddle time that we started after Liz got home for the night; and lots of chat time.  The co-ed sofa sleepovers were a highlight of the day for us too – though we are wondering how much longer we’ll get away with them before parental intervention coincides with officially crossing over to the next emotional and physical levels.  We’re apparently not there yet, and don’t want that to suddenly change tonight; so let’s not risk jinxing ourselves and wrap this up.

We will need to offer the rest of the news for today with the next update, but can report that our sleepover will include some babysitting at Aiden’s house while some parents go out for dinner at the Inn and some fun with their friends at the pub.  The number of kids we’ll be taking care of is still being worked out, but probably won’t be more than six – including Hailey and Leah.  Leah will be the only additional sleepover guest for the Drapers; so another co-ed sofa sleepover will be an option.  It is nearly time for us to get going again, so that’s all for now; and we’ll be back again in the digital world sometime tomorrow night.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - April 29, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

This early, short update is coming to you between school and our plans for the rest of the day that include an evening and sleepover at Naomi’s house.  For some reason, Mom was happy to approve that plan without any conditions; and we won’t comment on why she might be enthusiastic about a kid-free night with Dad! ;^)

We’ve had rain off and on today, but most of the bad weather is still ahead tonight; so we’ll be indoors for the rest of the day – and want to get to Naomi’s house before any of the serious rain arrives in town.  Our day-so-far hasn’t been memorable; we hope that the fun level will head toward awesome soon; and will write all about that with the next report; so we’re out of here and on our way to enjoy those adventures with our best friends and Naomi’s family!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - April 28, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

It was still in the low-sixties this morning and the rain didn’t start until later; so Tai Chi by the river was awesome; and then our day has been pretty good too.  The academic adventures were dampened a bit with some rain showers – or not; since we stayed indoors.  We mostly dodged the damp between school and getting the lab; followed up our fun at school with work-fun at the lab or archives; and then we did get rained on during the walk home.  Dinner was quick and easy; game night at the Inn was the entertainment highlight of the day; and that’s especially-true for Ehlana and Naomi because they won the junior title tonight.  That blast of fun with friends and family was followed by a wet walk home; and then we worked in the office with Mom and Dad for a few time-phased hours before coming upstairs for the night.

We’re keeping this update and our twin chat short because we’re tired; so that’s all for this report.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - April 27, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

Our top news of the day is that it was sunny with a high of seventy-five; we took advantage of that to spend a lot of time outdoors – including from our morning workout by the river through to the biking on the trails with our friends.  Three of our classes were taken outdoors too, and while we don’t really have any specific news to offer from any of our adventures; this was one of those really good days.  We had a late barbeque dinner with Mom, Dad, Naomi, Aiden, and their parents, brother, and sister; we – the kids – went for a short canoe ride after that; and then our guests and friends went home while we moved on to work in the office and do a Magi lesson with Mom.

Bath or Jacuzzi time was needed again tonight; we’ve been listening to music and chatting since then; and now we’re ready to crash and nap now.

Before we do that, while we don’t want to get into a big commentary on the bad news around the world; we’ll at least mention that the war in Ukraine is still bad with no signs of sanity in sight for the leaders on either side of the conflict.  Daily Covid case totals have dropped around the world, but that’s expected in the spring; and we’ll see whether new surges appear – or new strains.  We should also mention that our own Magi-powered ‘vaccines’ are still effective, and while we don’t keep up with that beyond reading reports; Uncle Adam and Uncle Mark continue to monitor that through normal visits with their patients.  There is no way to be sure that our friends and neighbors will be protected from future variants of Covid, but if that becomes a problem; Ehlana will find a new solution!

Finally, we want to point out that all of the other major problems around the world are still out there – and often being ignored by our world leaders.  It is really hard to hold out hope for at least our near-term collective future when most of those bigger problems are just getting worse.  That probably sounds wrong when we are personally insulated from basically all of those problems here at home, but we care about everyone; and don’t want anyone to suffer for any reason.  We’d better stop before we get into more details; so that’s all for tonight.  We’re heading into a couple of rain days; so we’ll switch to indoor adventures and play time at the lab.  Our friends always think that we’re a bit nuts to love what we do at the lab, but then only two of them actually know what we really do; so that isn’t a surprise.  We’ll still try to have happy, interesting stories to write about for you, but it’s time to get some sleep now; and then we’ll get out there and live those adventures that we’ll write about next!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - April 26, 2022

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 3rd Birthday, Bryn Jennings!

We had a family gift for Bryn, but didn’t see her today; and left it with her Mom while at school.  Cassie’s – and our – first babysitter gets special attention, and that includes Isabelle’s kids; so we hope that Bryn has had an awesome day!

It was below freezing this morning, so we opted for Tai Chi indoors, but then it warmed up into the mid-sixties by this afternoon and was sunny; so after our academic adventures; we went biking with our friends.  Today, we took our snacks and drinks out on the trail with us; headed toward Quarry Lake; and went as far as we could on the trail – which was most of the way there.  The trail isn’t quite finished yet, but it is very close; and we expect to be able to make the full ride to our favorite campground by as early as the first weekend in May.  The workers are basically down to the final surfacing of the last section of the trail and the trailside grooming.  We had a blast with that ride; barely got home again in time for dinner; and then our evening has included an easy meal, the clean-u, and work in the office with Mom and Dad.  Mom did a Magi lesson with us too; used time phasing when possible for the work; and then it was bath or Jacuzzi time for Ehlana and me because we needed to get cleaned up after the trail ride.

That’s all we have for this report, and we are definitely ready to get some sleep now; so we will! ;^)
