Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - March 31, 2019

Ethan:

Cassie, Michael, and their friends are back at the college or their townhouses now; so it actually is quieter around here tonight with just four of us in the house – five; including Silkie.

Ehlana and I didn’t spend a lot of time with Cassie and Michael today.  They were with us for Tai Chi, but with Michael’s family for breakfast; and with both sets of parents at lunch – which was at the Inn; since they couldn’t stay late for even the early buffet when they needed to get Madelana and Stefan back to their residential halls in decent time today.  We still had as much fun with them as we could the rest of the time, but Ehlana and I were in Sunday school as usual for most of the service at church; and then we only helped out with getting Cassie’s car packed between the goodbyes at the Inn and at home.

After they were on their way – along with Rowen and Tim; Ehlana and I helped Mom with chores around the house while Dad got to work on his weekend homework; we had a bit of outdoor play time after that; and then we had a quiet dinner-for-four at home.  Add in some studying or work in the office after the dinnertime clean-up; and that takes us through to the bedtime baths and an early bedtime – which for me is going to start right now.

Ehlana:

I love my Jacuzzi!

It helped out with missing Cassie – as did the chores and studying.  Knowing that Cassie and Michael are going to come home for Easter helps out too, but I’m still going to want to stay busy this week.  That’ll give me a good excuse to play at the lab a lot; so I will do that – when that’ll be an option for us.  We’ll see how that works out, but since we’ll be starting our school week with the annual holiday for pranks and practical jokes; we could be in for a very strange day – especially when it comes to certain friends and cousins.  Zack may not get many chances to bug us, but I’m sure that Miles and Joshua will be ready to have fun tomorrow; and we’ll definitely have to deal with them all day – at least at school.

Then again, we did send Madelana and Stefan off with a lot of new material to use for their jokes for Cassie and Michael; so we might deserve to get pranked tomorrow too.  I’ll let you know how that goes for us – and for Cassie and Michael; since there are sure to be April Fool’s Day pranks going on at their college – even if they wouldn’t be in on any of those jokes.  Michael and Tim really aren’t scarred for life because of their ‘no hugging zone’ prank on Cassie back when they were kids, but they also haven’t tried to prank her since then; so they did learn their lesson – even while they’ve also gotten over their girl-germ phobias. ;^)

Moving along, I guess there isn’t any news to add to this report, and I am due to get a decent night of rest; so I’ll wrap this up and do that.  We have a lot of great new memories from our week with Cassie, Michael, and their friends; so I’ll focus on that now – and try not to be too-sad about them being gone again for another few weeks.  I really do need to get used to that; since Cassie really will only be home for visits when she can around all of the school time – and she still has more than four years of that to go before she’ll be home to stay again.

Note to me – stop thinking about that at all.  It’ll be easier to just take that separation from our big sister days or weeks at a time.  Sleep will help too; so I’m out of here and back to the real world.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - March 30, 2019

Ethan:

Some of us had a very late night last night, but that didn’t keep us from getting up at our normal time; and then having a crazy start to our day after Tai Chi while taking turns getting ready to play and helping out with a major breakfast.  We biked the trails and played at the park all morning; went for canoe rides in the afternoon when it was warmest; and some of us mixed in a bit of shopping and wandering around town into the mix too.  There was a major pizzeria pizza meal that Rebecca and Jen were happy to help us out with on a comparatively-quiet Saturday; and we’ve had a quiet night at home with just Mom, Dad, and our four favorite collegians before they’ll be heading back to school tomorrow afternoon.

I’ve skipped the details, but all that matters to me is that we’ve had one of those really good, happy days with people we love most; and now I’m ready to crash and get some sleep.

Ehlana:

I’ll go with that, and while I should write more tonight; I’ll just save that up for another day – and that’ll give me something to do while missing Cassie and Michael when they’re gone again.

This really has been an awesome, remember-forever kind of day; so I’ll just be grateful for that and be happy.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - March 29, 2019

Ethan:

We’re done school; have had a couple of hours of play and biking fun at the park with a gang of family and friends; and now we’re about to get started on the movies and sleepovers parts of our night.  It’s been a great day so far, but I’m going to get back to having fun with everyone else; so that’s all I have for tonight.

Ehlana:

Ditto that for me.  I’ll add more with the next report.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - March 28, 2019

Ethan:

Ehlana and I are playing normal kids again tonight.  We’ve had a good day at school; did our ‘homework’ and then had some play time with our friends after that; had dinner-for-eight; and then we played at the Inn for game night.  Now we’re in bed; and will be heading off to sleep – or at least pretending to do that; since I may do some archive reading for a while first.  That’s all the news I have for today, so I’ll wrap this up; and get back to the ‘real’ world.

Ehlana:

We should have more news while Cassie’s home, but we really don’t have much – other than it’s been nice to spend time with her today.  Most of our favorite collegians got their Spring Break studies finished today while we were at school; so they’ll get to take it easy for the rest of the week and weekend.  Cassie isn’t done, but has more finished than she’s admitting to her friends for obvious reasons; and that’ll give her an excuse to do other work instead.  That should make it easier for us to have a bit of extra play time with them, but we’ll see how that goes; since they do have a lot of other people wanting to spend time with them too.

That was true tonight at the Inn, but then my favorite news from game night was Madelana’s and Stefan’s reactions to our quaint little small-town entertainment.  We do know how a lot of people from other places feel about our traditions like game night, but the ‘what’ we’re doing isn’t what they should be looking at – it’s the bonds we have as family, friends, and neighbors that really matters.  Those bonds run deeper than anyone outside of our Magi community can imagine, but it’s still true for everyone else in our town and the entire Ridge River district.  It’s sad that everyone doesn’t have that – or even seem to know that they need those strong connections.

I’m not commenting on that to pick on Madelana and Stefan.  They are part of a small community with their best college friends, and they do have other connections with family and friends in their home towns, but it’s also-true that they don’t appreciate those connections the same way we do here; and there are other differences.  That’s more a reality of our times and technology, but that fact doesn’t need to matter; since how we use those tools is a choice.  I’ll pick ‘face time’ with others in person over digital communications every time; and I’m really glad that we only use our electronic toys and devices instead of having them control our lives.

Let’s not get started on a rant tonight.  I’d love to convince everyone that there is life without a Smartphone, but that isn’t a message that would go over very well with most kids and teens; so I’ll just be happy that things are different here in our happy little home town.  I also want to get some reading done tonight, so I guess that’s it for me; and I’ll get to that for a while until I’m ready to get some sleep.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - March 27, 2019

Ethan:

I don’t have any news for today.  That doesn’t mean that there isn’t any – just that even the second wedding planning meeting of the week didn’t really have that much that directly affects me; or at least that’s true for the near-future.  All of those details will be available elsewhere anyway; so I’ll leave it to others to cover all of the highlights.

For me, I’m just ready to call it a night and get some sleep – so I will.

Ehlana:

I’m tired too, but we had a good day that started with Tai Chi for six and breakfast for eight before Ethan and I went to school.  Our favorite collegians had another study session today; Cassie and Michael followed that up with a play afternoon with Brianna and Faith; and our younger cousins are now very happy to have their wedding ‘jobs’ to look forward to this summer.  Ethan definitely found the wedding meeting tonight a bit boring, but they got everything set up for the next month or two of work and appointments that will deal with everything from invitations to shopping trips for wedding dresses and other fun.  The Moms want as much of that out of the way before Cassie and Rowen have to worry about final exams; so we’re going to be busy between now and Easter.

Okay, not all of us will be busy with the work for the wedding, but Ethan and I will be involved for everything we can help with; and that is going to be fun for us.

There isn’t much else to cover for today; and I’m not going to think about how quickly the week is flying past because I’m not going to be ready to say goodbye to Cassie and Michael again when they need to head back to college again on Sunday.  We have had a good day, though; so I’ll head off to sleep now and just be grateful for another happy day with our family and friends.
