Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - November 30, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

We’ve had a good day from Tai Chi and breakfast through our school day; play time at the lab or archives; and evening with Mom and Dad.  Our last day of November hasn’t really been newsworthy; so we’re going to offer some current events commentary for this report while winding down to nap time.

The Omicron Covid variant continues to be a top news story around the world, and Ehlana really wants to take a look at it when we can get the data and samples at the lab, but a serious lack of information about it hasn’t kept people from making uninformed decisions or offering opinions that are usually motivated by self-interest.  While we understand and commiserate with genuine fears and concerns that continue related to the pandemic we’ve all been dealing with for the past two years, and know that there are real risks for millions of people with a virus that we don’t have natural immunity against; we’re as-aware of the consequences that are often being ignored by political leaders that are caused by everything from mask and vaccine mandates to lockdowns and quarantines.

Getting into a rant about pandemic politics and policies won’t change anything here in the real world, but Mom is leading our quiet family business efforts to help where we can where our world leaders at all levels fail so many people in true need; and we really need more of that sort of love to spread and fight all of the bad.  It is Christmastime; so maybe that can happen!

The pandemic is far from the only serious problem in the world even if it gets far more attention than other issues.  Inflation is high on the news cycle list if not always for the real reasons, and while that’s a problem that is partly tied to the pandemic; it could also be a bigger problem for the world as the poorest people are hit hardest by the rising cost of basic needs like food and energy.  Next up, if the environment and climate change is mentioned at all as we head into winter, that rarely happens because of too-nice weather; and extreme cold is as likely to be used against environmental activists as to support concerns over growing climate extremes.  What isn’t happening is the co-ordinated and extreme changes that need to happen to mitigate the damage that has already been done – not to mention how much worse our collective future might be without radical change.  Finally, at the risk of filling this update up with nothing but bad news; we continue to be concerned with the growing tensions and fighting around the world – whether that is political, military, or economic conflicts.  Those problems could definitely get worse – especially when competition gets more-fierce over limited resources.

We see the bigger picture fairly-well thanks to our junior Magi Master talents, and it helps to know that the Ascension of the Light is meant to happen in our lifetime, but we also understand that a lot of really awful can happen between now and then; and we wish that there was a way to keep more of those bad things from happening at all.

We will continue to do what we can to share love, joy, and happiness wherever we can, and we are blessed to have so much love and happiness in our personal lives here in our amazing little town.  As we head into December overnight; we’ll wrap up this update – and month – with the happy thoughts that we will make small differences this Christmas – and hope that there will be more love and peace spreading around the world to fight against all of the darkness that sometimes seems overwhelming.  That’s a happy thought to head off to sleep with now; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - November 29, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

We’ve had a long day; so this is going to be a micro-update.

Tai Chi by the river was a bit warmer than expected, if still cool; and we have also had another warm day with a high in the mid-sixties that led to extra outdoor time at school and biking and play time with our friends after we were set free for the day.  We had fun with our friends until it was getting dark out; helped Mom with making dinner; and then we enjoyed that meal with Mom and Dad before spending a few time-phased hours working in the office.  We all got a lot of work done, but that’s also why this has been such a long day even while we’ll still be able to get to sleep fairly-early tonight.

That’s also enough news for this update, and we really are tired and ready to crash soon; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - November 28, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

We’re winding down from our holiday weekend adventures tonight, and have a lot of news to cover; so let’s get at it!

The trip to the Christmas tree farm yesterday morning was seriously awesome – in part because the weather was so great.  We didn’t reach the mid-sixties high for the day while we were there, but it was warm-enough to make the hay ride and picking out our trees part of the adventure really good.  It took a while to pick out all of the trees for our gang – including the trees that went home with some of our guests.  That also made for full loads in all of the trucks we brought along and on the rooftops of some of the vehicles too.  By the time we were finished shopping in the Christmas store and enjoying all of the snack treats and drinks, we also had the storage inside most of the vehicles filled too; so the farm owners and shop vendors and crafters were very happy with us when we hit the road again for home.

Warm weather all afternoon allowed for biking on the trails and park play time to go along with the indoor football watching, video gaming, and movies; so we had a lot of fun all day.  We were split up for dinner yesterday with Ehlana and Aiden having that meal with his family while Naomi and I were at the Ayres’ home for another Ayres-Seager families’ get-together.  Decorating trees and watching Christmas movies were the top entertainment options at many of the homes we delivered trees to from the farm.  We had Naomi and Aiden with us for our tree trimming.  Grandma and Grandpa joined us for that blast of fun, and then we wrapped up our fun for Saturday with more movies and a co-ed sofa sleepover.

That brings us up to this morning. Tai Chi by the river included Brianna and Aunt Leanne, so that was fun; and then we only had six for breakfast while the Carringtons and Ayres had the busiest morning meals in the family – and possibly the entire town.  That made getting ready for church easy for us; and we were among the first members of our extended family to get to the church.  The teen-led holiday service was really great; and then we were booked for the first buffet at the Inn at noon – mostly so that our weekend guests could enjoy that meal and still hit the road for home by mid-afternoon.

We loved the lunch meal, and then we helped out with the chores that ranged from helping to pack vehicles and keep cousins entertained to cleaning and laundry at multiple homes.  It didn’t get very warm today, but it was still decent and dry; and our favorite travelers didn’t have any bad weather worries for their trips home.  Most of the visiting members of the Johnson clan were on the road by three-thirty, but Jaimie and Kaitlyn stayed until after dinner so that they could spend the time with Micah and Jeremy.  That also gave them the chance for a visit with Uncle Mark, Aunt Grace, Caleb, and Faith after they got home from their weekend in Granite Park; so they had a happy wind down to their visit – even though they were sad to be leaving Micah and Jeremy.  They might not get together again before the Christmas break in-person; so we expect an extended visit from them for a week or more while we’re all off from school.  We’ll keep you posted on that news when we have more.  That’ll be just one of many holiday plans still to be made; so stay tuned for all of the fun we expect to continue from now through the New Year!

There are so many little details that we haven’t covered for this report, and as usual, we’ll need to settle for assuring you that the ‘what’ we’ve done this weekend isn’t as important as the love and joy we’ve shared with our family and friends.  In contrast to all of the home town happiness, we haven’t liked learning about all of the bad news around the world.  We helped Mom with some work tonight to help out with some of those problems; and wish that we could do more.  We have continuing concerns related to the pandemic, but while the latest Omicron variant is at the top of the news cycle; we’re more-worried about the social problems that many governments around the world are making worse with policies that don’t really have anything to do with health and safety.  We’ll work for and pray for the best; and be ready to do what we can wherever and whenever those problems become new crises.

We don’t really want to wrap up our holiday weekend on a down note; so let’s move on and skip the rest of the global bad news stories that you can look up elsewhere in the archives if you’re really interested in the worst of our current events.  As we wind down November toward December this week, we’re happy and looking forward to the Christmas season.  That transition from Thanksgiving will begin tomorrow at school as we get started on the final round of study modules of the year; and we’ll also have a lot of Christmas-themed fun coming up nearly every day.

That is a happy thought to end on as well as to dream about while we have our nap time tonight; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - November 27, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

We’re going with another morning update, and need to get going again soon; so we’ll cover a couple of highlights from yesterday; and then do a better report for the holiday weekend tomorrow night.

First up, Jaimie and Kaitlyn got here yesterday morning in time for some of the shopping fun; and are here for the rest of the weekend – though they’re spending a lot of their time with Micah and Jeremy.  Michael, Tim, and their team won their final regular season football game – a bit of an upset against a higher-ranked team, and we watched most of that game; so that was a lot of fun for all of us.  Aunt Leanne hosted a girls’ sleepover last night that included chick flick Christmas movies; the boys were at the Ayres’ home; and we’re only back together here at our own house to drop off overnight bags and get ready for our family-and-friends trip to our favorite Christmas tree farm.

That really will need to be enough for now because we need to get going again; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - November 26, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

Black Friday is really just a marketing gimmick now; since the real meaning of the name doesn’t apply or have any basis in fact anymore.  We are glad that our home town shopping tradition doesn’t come with any of the darker problems that happen every year in other places; so that’s even more reason for the name to be meaningless here when our holiday shopping adventures are so happy and awesome!

With all of that said, this update is happening in the morning because we’re going to put our computers away and have fun all day with our family and friends.  We’ll be shopping all morning; playing or watching football all afternoon and evening; and enjoying a couple of family meals at lunch and dinner.  The rest of the details can wait for our next report, and we’re nearly ready to head out for the shopping fun now; so, until next time...
