Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 31, 2019

Ethan:

Congratulations to Ehlana, Naomi, and their Panthers’ team mates – they’re the champions for their division of our little baseball league this year!  They did that against the first-place Wildcats, and while the game was close for the first few innings; my favorite Panthers took control of the game in the fourth inning; and went on to lead the way to a twelve-to-seven win.

Baseball was the entertainment highlight of the morning for us, but the rest of our day to this point has been awesome too – starting with Tai chi by the river for six that Cassie and Michael joined us for – and they had breakfast with us too while his family was either busy at the Inn anyway or sleeping in after working late at the pizzeria.  Cassie led the cheer squad for Ehlana’s ballgame too; and they got some credit for helping out with the victory – including getting to join in on the ice cream treats celebration.  It was time to share Cassie and Michael after that with his family for a while, so they missed out on our family lunch at the Carringtons’ home, but then they brought some guests along for the afternoon trail ride or corral adventure that was our big entertainment plan for the two and a half hours or so after lunch – including the drive time to and from the ranch.

We had a blast on the trail ride; and then we had another ice cream snack break at home before doing a bit of work because by then we’d decided to have a fairly-major camping night with our cousins and some friends to go along with the barbeque dinner and campfire.  Extra tents were needed, so we set them up; went for a swim to cool off after that; and now I’m getting cleaned up; packing the bag I’ll need in my tent; and then we’ll be getting back to the fun in the back yard while we wait for dinner.  The rest of the news for today will have to wait for the next update – though I’ll leave it to Ehlana to add some family news that she’s more-excited about than I am.

For now, I’m going to move on and get back to the family and friends fun.

Ehlana:

I’m really happy about winning our game today, and Abby will love having the trophy at her store for the next year, but our top family news of the day is about babies – two of them!

No, it isn’t a twin story – and only the Magi Masters in the family found out about this; though we’ve passed the news on to Uncle Adam so that he can talk with his cousins before they head home.  Trish is now expecting her second child with Rob; and Tory is going to have her first with Kyle – both babies due to join our family next May.  I am more-excited about that than Ethan is, but we both know that starting their own families is going to be a big part of life for our older cousins and friends for the next ten or fifteen years; and a lot of those kids are going to be important to our collective future.

I’m not going to get into that; so let’s move on.

We got to have some quality chat time with Cassie and Michael this morning while having breakfast; so let’s go over some of the news from their first two weeks of school.  I’ve already mentioned the first new friends that Cassie made during her third-year classes, Talia and Matt, but they’ve added two more girls to their study group – Kate and Rosinda.  Kate is only taking Chinese with Cassie and isn’t in the same program; so she’s a part-time member of their study group while looking to be a future teacher in China or elsewhere in Asia.  Rosinda is in the same program; and her languages are Arabic and Russian.  Cassie thinks that there might not be any additions this year – mostly because the other third-year students already have well-established groups of friends and study groups.  She does have at least one person in each class to work with on their assignments and for group projects when needed; and that’s going to make for a nice mix of friends without having the study group get too-big to work out for everyone.

That really is different for Cassie; since her now-second-year friends – and husband – haven’t had any changes to their study group friends so far this semester.  The new friends are adding to the fun, though; and Cassie is already having some bonus fun with early efforts for some matchmaking.  First up for that is an apparently-strong attraction between summer school friend Chloe Clare and Vic Miklov; and they may or may not be getting together for a first date this weekend.  If not, I’ll predict that Cassie will help them out with that by next weekend – even if that’s just as part of their next group outing to the Rec Center to watch football and play.  Cassie and Michael really are having a lot of fun with their start to school this year, and they’re brilliantly-happy.  Co-habitation likely has a lot to do with that extra happy, but we won’t write about that in this journal either; so I’ll just be happy for them.

I guess that’s enough for today, and I need to move on now too; so the rest of the news of the day will have to wait for the next report since we’re going to keep the family and friends fun going until late tonight – and all weekend too if we can manage to do that for our big summer wrap-up adventures!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 30, 2019

Ethan:

The after-dark games last night kept us – the guys – entertained for enough o the time that Zack, Eli, and some of the other guys were satisfied with a quick raid of the girls’ campfire; so we only interrupted them for about ten minutes before they chased us off.  Aiden and I replaced the ‘stolen’ snacks with the bakery treats; and I got razzed a lot for getting caught by Naomi and then ‘infected’ with girl germs thanks to the hug and kiss she shared with me before allowing me to escape too.  After getting back to our camp, there was another hour of games in the back yard; video gaming in the tents until we were ready to sleep – or past-ready for Aiden, Jayden, me, and a few of the other guys; and then we got to have a nap before being up again at dawn for Tai Chi by the river.

We didn’t get to do that with the girls, but Aiden and I had Mom and Dad with us for that; and then we helped out with getting breakfast ready for the guys – and keeping them away from Faith and the girls at her house.  There were chores to do after breakfast, but we left the tents up for weekend camping; and then we were set free to play by late morning.  With Jayden, Jaimie, and Kaitlyn here too, a bike ride on the trail around town was first up; we had a picnic lunch at the park; biked the trails there and went for a swim; and then headed home before going out for an hour-long canoe ride.  Add in an ice cream treats break; and that takes us through to the pre-dinner work or play time in the Carrington and Everett back yards and kitchens.

Jaimie and Kaitlyn were put in charge of the younger cousins and friends, but Ehlana, Jayden, and I helped out – as did Naomi and Aiden while they could still hang out with us until they had to move on after dinner.  The barbeque and pot-luck meal was great, but then we split up after that for various reasons that ranged from play plans to getting weekend work-homework finished while waiting for incoming guests.  Dad was one of those workers, but while he was home and doing that in the office; Ehlana and I played with our cousins until dusk; helped out with some of the welcome home greetings and work; we had fun with that; and then came home too while waiting for Cassie and Michael to get home.

There’s was still a long wait for that because they had holiday weekend traffic problems that kept them on the road until a bit past eleven o’clock.  They are home safely – and not here either; since Michael’s family get to have them this weekend – a trade-off for the week we got to spend with them in California.  We went over to Michael’s house when they got to town; helped out with unpacking the car; and had a bedtime visit with them that only lasted a half-hour or so because Ehlana has her championship game tomorrow morning.  Cassie had a full day of classes and that long drive too, but when we headed home; they went over to the pizzeria to visit with Rebecca, Jen, and anyone else that was there before going home again to get some sleep too.

I guess that’s all for tonight; so I’d better wrap this up and get the sleep I can before it’ll be time to get up and going again.

Ehlana:

I think that the girls had more fun last night than Ethan and the other guys – including with their raid on our campfire.  We had games too, and while they were geared toward Faith and her friends; we all had a blast; the campfire music and stories were great; and then we had a long girl chat in our tent – along with watching music videos while we talked about everything from Naomi’s kiss with Ethan to latest summer holiday news and back-to-school hopes and expectations.

We weren’t up quite as late as the guys, but still didn’t get a lot of sleep before our own Tai Chi work-out that was all-girls except for Uncle Adam.  Our breakfast was more-civilized than what Mom told us about that meal with the boys; and then our chores for the morning included helping Faith’s friends get packed up and either home or over to KidZone for their last day at daycare of the summer.  We did need to pack up our campground and tents too, but had some parental and teen help for that; and it didn’t take long.

Ethan’s done a pretty good job covering the rest of the news for today, and we haven’t had much time yet to get the latest news from Cassie and Michael; so I’ll save that update for later this weekend.  I really need to get to sleep to be ready for the big game in the morning – especially when we’ll have the only game of the day for the family; and wouldn’t want to disappoint our cheer squad.

That’s just the first bit of fun and excitement scheduled this weekend; so stay tuned for a lot more over the next few updates!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 29, 2019

Happy 3rd Birthday, Faith!

Ethan:

This is going to be a short update because I only have a few minutes before going outside again to help with the guys’ camping night now that we’re home from Faith’s birthday dinner – and the girls are moving on to a short campfire ahead of their camping night.

Ehlana and I helped Mom this morning with getting ready for the trip to Quarry Lake; we ended up being ready to go and headed out there by late morning; and then we helped out with the birthday party kid control for an hour and a half of play time before we stopped for a picnic lunch.  The younger kids didn’t want to slow down for long, so that was a short break; and then it was non-stop play and fun all afternoon through until it was time to come home – and over to Uncle Mark and Aunt Grace’s house for Faith’s birthday dinner.

We were on kid control while waiting to eat; Aiden and I did our best to keep Zack, Eli, and some of the other guys from messing with Faith’s fun during that meal and while she opened her gifts; and then we were eventually told to leave and move on to our camping night when Zack got bored by the ‘little kid’ party games.  We’re not doing a campfire here, but we will play some games after dark and likely have to do one raid on the girls’ camp too, but we won’t let that get out of hand either; and we have some bakery treats to share too – after Zack and Eli get away with ‘stealing’ treats from the girls.  I really need to get back outside, though, so that’s it for now; and I’ll add more if needed with the next update.

Ehlana:

Ethan’s being nice; and some of those younger guys – including Zack – have been more than a little annoying today both at Quarry Lake and back here at home.

Faith is still having an awesome day; and Ethan’s left some of the best news of the day for me to cover too.  First up, Uncle Blaine and Aunt Alison surprised Faith by coming a day early for the holiday weekend so that they could go out to Quarry Lake with us; and we also get to have Jaimie and Kaitlyn with us for the camping night and campfire!  I’m sure that Faith loved her gifts too, but is happiest about the extra time with her aunt, uncle, and cousins.  The party at Quarry Lake wasn’t huge when it came to the actual guests that had been invited to spend the afternoon with Faith, but as usual, word gets around; and there were a lot of older siblings and their friends and chaperones out at Quarry Lake for the day too – along with the KidZone staff and their kids that weren’t already going to Faith’s party anyway.

While Faith and her friends are too-young for some of the extreme fun at Quarry Lake, we still had a blast in the lake, on the water slides, and with the games and activities they could do – and I’m including Ethan, Aiden, and Naomi in that ‘we’ because we stayed and helped out with the younger kids most of the time except for one break instead of taking off with some of our friends and the older kids and teens.  That was entirely because the parents needed the support – and because it’s fun to hang out with Faith, Brianna, and their friends! ;^)

Dinner, Faith’s gift-opening, and the ice cream and cake desserts was all great despite the over-the-top antics that Zack led with help from Eli, but they added in a lot of scary or annoying moments that I won’t write about; so let’s move on and I’ll be glad that Faith still had fun.  Then again, she seems to have a talent for ignoring the worst – or maybe it’s just that she’s so sweet and nice about it that Zack actually feels guilty about messing with her.  That, by the way, doesn’t get him to stop.  He just picks other nearby targets to annoy instead – like Naomi and me.

I’m writing this while on a micro break ahead of the campfire and need to get back to the fun; so I guess that’s all for tonight.  We have one more sleep before Cassie and Michael will be home; so I’m glad that we’ll keep busy tonight and tomorrow while waiting to see them again.  This has been an awesome day; and we can hope for that trend to continue for the final four days of summer!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - August 28, 2019

Ethan:

We’ve had our last play day at the lab and archives of the month; Ehlana and I were drafted for part of the afternoon to help out with some prep work for Faith’s birthday and camping tomorrow; and we played at the park for the rest of the day except for our dinner break – including the play time while the parents were having their final co-ed ball practice ahead of their championship game on Sunday.

Now I’m going to crash and nap; since we’re sure to have a lot of late nights between now and next Monday; starting with Faith’s special day and our trip to Quarry Lake for that celebration.

Ehlana:

I’m good with that micro-report; don’t have anything to add; and need the sleep too so I’ll be ready for all of the fun tomorrow.
