Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 31, 2018

Ethan:

Happy New Year’s Eve Day!

This update is coming to you early because we’ll be busy with the dinner and party tonight; and an update once we’re home from the Inn might not be an option.

First up, Cassie didn’t make it home last night after work at the Inn; and we didn’t see her until after breakfast.  I won’t comment on her sleepover with Michael; though she got teased about it by the girls for a while before we all headed out to do a bit of shopping.  For the guys, that was mostly about getting Olde Bakery treats to enjoy today and tomorrow, but we wandered around the other stores too; and just didn’t buy anything – or at least most of us didn’t.

We came home for a pizzeria pizza lunch, and while Cassie’s moved on to the Inn to help with the set-up for the dinner and party that we’ll all be attending tonight.  While she’s busy, we’re getting to play for a few hours before getting ready for our night out; and I need to get back to playing with my cousins and friends.  The fun is really just getting started now, but I’ll cover all of the party highlights with the next report.  That’s all for this update, though; so, until next time...

Ehlana:

I had more fun with the shopping this morning; the pizza lunch was a bit scary thanks to Zack and some of the other boys; and while Ethan can play for most of the afternoon; we – the girls – need to take turns getting ready for the party tonight even with all of the bathrooms we have here.

That’s what I’m going to be doing next, since the younger cousins are apparently, supposedly, able to get dressed up early and stay clean for a couple of hours before we’ll be going to the Inn for the night.  Yes, I actually can do that, and it makes sense since the Moms and teens are still busy with other chores and activities, but it will be a bit boring while we need to play quietly and not get messed up this afternoon.  The party and dinner is going to be awesome, though, so that little sacrifice will be worth it.

I don’t have anything to add to that; so stay tuned for the next update; and I’ll get started on my mini-makeover.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 30, 2018

Ethan:

Our morning was crazy-busy with the major breakfast and all of the girls sharing bathroom time to get ready for church; so the rest of the day seemed quiet by comparison.  We had fun at church; it was a play afternoon for everyone except for anyone busy with work either at jobs or with keeping up with the chores around our houses; and then we had a quiet evening here as everyone was ready to rest up for the New Year celebrations tomorrow and Tuesday.

I’m good with getting extra sleep to be ready for that too; so that’s all I have for tonight.

Ehlana:

That works for me; so I’ll only add that Cassie worked at the Inn to help out with the holiday weekend buffets; and Ethan skipped mentioning that our dinner was at one of those buffets.  Grandma and Grandpa hosted the extended family for that meal; and that helped a lot with why the parents had less work to do once they were finished with the lunch meal and the rest of the afternoon chores that were going on around the football, movies, and play time.

We have had another awesome day, and while it has been quieter too; most of us are happy to take the little breaks before we’ll be busier again with the New Year’s Eve Day adventures that will be starting in the morning.

I’ll be ready for all of that fun too; so that’s it for me as well; and I’m heading for dreamland – along with most of the kids in our family.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 29, 2018

Ethan:

Our Proctor family Christmas has been an amazing blast of fun today!

Tai Chi for seven was a quiet start ahead of all of the crazy family fun, but then we were busy with breakfast; getting ready for the day; and then all of the work and fun for the family Christmas.  We – the kids – got to play most of the time while the teens and adults took care of most of the work, but Ehlana and I hosted the cousins on the third floor – when we weren’t having meals or hanging out with the rest of our family in the living room or elsewhere.

Kid play and video gaming was in the lounge and in Ehlana’s room all day; chick flicks were in the sunroom; and the guys got the living room for football – when we weren’t also opening gifts or having other fun there too.  While we really have had an awesome day, I should take a moment to note that this is a holiday weekend; and a busy work day for most of the stores in town – including the Inn.  That’s why Michael, Rowen, and Tim were busy with jobs – though we did get to see them today; and Rowen is here with the other girls for the sleepover they’re having with Cassie, May, and Ehlana.  Michael could only be here for breakfast and the gift opening this afternoon; and then he was just here for the last couple of hours of the night after the Inn closed.

There has been so much going on around here today; I’m not going to try to cover everything.  The food was great for every meal – and all of the snacks.  I ate too much – so it’s a good thing that I have the hyper-metabolism of a Magi Master.  I played a lot of video games with the guys; didn’t really care about the football; and stayed far away from the mini makeovers that the girls had fun with earlier this evening.  The football indifference will only be something I can get away with for a few more years, but it isn’t that I can’t enjoy a good football game – it’s just that I’d rather do nearly anything else.  That’s true for most chick flicks too, which is why I wasn’t in the sunroom very often today except for meals; but I had fun all day with the play time the we – they younger guys – liked to do most.

It’s now past-midnight; our guests have gone home except for everyone spending the night here – including all of the extra girls; and I’m planning on staying out of their way for the rest of the night – and in the morning too.  I’m also tired and ready to crash; so the first part of that plan will be easy while I’m unconscious anyway.  We’re now past the ‘Christmas’ part of our weekend, but there’s lots more fun to go; so I’d better wrap this up and get the rest I’ll need to keep up with Day Two of our holiday weekend adventures.

Ehlana:

While Ethan was busy with the guys; I’ve spent most of my day with the girls.  We played a lot of games that were picked by Brianna and Faith; watched some movies with the girls; and enjoyed the all-family fun too – including the meals and gift exchange.  The mini-makeovers that Ethan avoided was a highlight of the evening for the younger girls because our favorite Moms and teens helped us out with getting beautiful ahead of the holiday weekend Sunday church service.

As usual, I want to emphasize that it hasn’t been the ‘what’ we’ve done today that means the most to me – it’s the ‘who’ we’ve been spending the day with.  That includes the sleepover I’m having right now with Naomi and my cousins.  They’re all sleeping now, and I should join them; so I think that’s all I’ll have for this report.  We’ve had an amazing day; and this is one of those times that I’m grateful for having such an amazing memory so that I can keep all of this happy with me forever!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 28, 2018

Ethan:

We have a house full of family tonight, but the holiday weekend fun has been a bit muted because all of our visitors are tired out after a long day and trip from Woodvale.  There was some chat time after the vehicles were unloaded until the parents and grandparents wanted to go up to bed, and a movie in the lounge that Chris and Sadie were too-tired to stay up past midnight to watch with us, and since Michael went home then; I got razzed a bit for being the only guy still in the lounge after that – though the cuddle time with Cassie was nice while we watched the tail-end of that show.  The girls are wrapping up their night with a bit of chat time in the lounge, but I don’t expect that they’ll stay up much longer either.

As for the rest of my news since the last update, we had a fun play night and sleepover last night; Ehlana and I played at the lab and archives today while Cassie and May helped Mom and kept busy with other entertainment; and then we pretty much waited around for the Rice clan to get here.  They had one of those rotten trips with lots of traffic and accident issues along the way that were mostly weather-related thanks to the plunging temperature and the ice and snow issues that came along with the cold – even though it’s silly for that to be a problem at the start of every winter.  I realize that it’ll be a while before I’ll get to drive cars, but this bit of rain and snow just wasn’t enough that it should have caused so much trouble on the roads today.

Okay, maybe that isn’t totally fair, since we could just make sure that no accidents happened around us if we were out there driving in bad weather, but you know what I mean; and the drivers in our family were talking about that problem as part of their travel stories.  It is true that too many drivers forget how to handle winter conditions by the start of every winter; and that most of those accidents are preventable.

I did not want to turn this report into a commentary on winter driving or anything else, so I’m going to wrap this up; and get the sleep that I obviously need. ;^)

Ehlana:

I had fun last night with the family and friends play time; the lab time was great; and I’m happy to have our family home for the long weekend that will include the bonus family Christmas and all of the New Year’s Eve and Day entertainment.  Our evening has been quieter than we expected thanks to the late arrivals, but the movie and cuddle time was good; and so was the girl chat.  Cassie, May, and Dawn had to keep that girl time kid-rated for me, but they’ll have time for teen talk this weekend too; and I’ll find something else to do when they’re busy with that sort of thing.

Ethan already covered the bad weather driving commentary that I was thinking about writing too, and it is getting late; so I should just wrap this up and get all of the sleep I can to be ready for our first day of holiday weekend adventures.  Stay tuned – there will be a lot to write about over the next four or five days!
