Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - December 22, 2018

Christmas Video of the Day!

Ethan:

Aiden and I had a blast playing video games with Michael and Tim last night; our sleepover was earlier and quieter than it was for the girls; and then we had a fun start to our day with Tai Chi and breakfast before we were put to work with some chores; and then we were set free to play – though in my case; that included having to say goodbye to Aiden – and Naomi – when they went home after some visiting that included seeing some of the Johnson clan cousins because they’re here for the Christmas weekend while this is an ‘away’ Christmas for ‘our’ family.  We only had our slightly-larger-than-normal family home for lunch; and then the girls went shopping for a while and I stayed at home with Dad and we worked in the office – a chance for him to get his homework done; and for me to read in my digital archives at full-speed while May was out of the house.

While we were doing that, the girls set up a kid-free night for Mom and Dad as part of their shopping adventure – which is why Ehlana and I are here at Grandma and Grandpa’s house tonight.  Cassie is at Michael’s – and helped out at the Inn during the dinner rush; May is at Rowen’s for the night – and apparently having a semi-date night there with Cody, Rowen, Tim, Patrick, and Jessica; and that’s all I’ll include for that news.  At least one of us doesn’t want the details for that date night, Cassie’s first sleepover in Michael’s room – at least when it comes to doing that with parents in the house too; or our parents’ kid-free night.  I hope they’ll all have fun, but if you want more than that; Ehlana will have to write about it – or you’ll have to search elsewhere in the archives.

Note to me – do not cross-reference the archives so thoroughly that anyone can ever access that sort of information too-easily! ;^)

Moving along, we’ve been here with Grandma and Grandpa since before dinner; I’ve loved getting to have them to ourselves for an evening; and we’ve had fun with the food, stories, and Christmas entertainment.  We’re also in bed comparatively-early, but we do have a busy day tomorrow with church, the Sunday buffet, and the teen-led Christmas show; so the extra sleep will be good for us.

That’s also all I have, and while our extended Christmas weekend has started out a lot quieter than in years when we have a house full of relatives and friends; there’s a lot to be said for enjoying these opportunities too – and fun doesn’t have to be non-stop and thrilling to be remember-forever great too.  There will be lots of that kind of fun coming up too, though; so I’m going to get started on that nap so that I’ll be ready for everything.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

You’re welcome, Mom, Dad, Cassie, and everyone else!

Naomi and Aiden would’ve agreed to do bonus sleepovers with us – or we could have done that with Brianna, Zack, and their Johnson family cousins, but I’m with Ethan; and am glad that we’ve gotten to have an evening with Grandma and Grandpa instead – especially when they’re traveling so much this winter.

I also had a lot of fun with the girls’  Christmas movies last night; the chat time with our favorite teens; and the sleepover with Naomi.  The grandparents’ time is my top fun pick for the day; with the girls’ shopping adventure a close second.  Then again, our entire day has been awesome; and there’s also something to be said for getting to visit the big family fun the way we did this morning; and then move on and leave all of the crazy behind.  ;^)

Ethan didn’t offer specifics about our evening here, but we got to have a really nice dinner; Grandpa shared a half-dozen travel stories with us; and we watched a favorite, really-old Christmas classic before winding down with bedtime snacks.  I’m sure that nearly everyone else is staying up later than we are tonight, but I’m okay with the early bedtime too – and we’ll be ready and at full-power for all of the fun tomorrow that will keep us busy until later tomorrow night by the time we get home from the Christmas show at the church.

We also only have three more sleeps until Christmas, so we’ll keep being good; and make sure that we don’t mess up and end up on Santa’s naughty list!

Gotta go now – I probably have some sugar plums or something to dream about now while being good and going to sleep.

This is Ehlana Proctor; coming to you live from what is now my past!
