Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 30, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

It’s the last day of June, but we don’t have anything newsworthy to write about – at least so far today.

We were indoors for Tai Chi due to wet weather; chores kept us busy – as well as damp and dirty – for the morning; and we were set free for some play time with our friends after that.  Biking and swimming were options around the rain, but we still managed to get caught during one little blast of rain; and now we’re planning on being indoors for most of the rest of the day.  We’re home to get cleaned up and packed for a sleepover at Naomi’s house, and won’t be taking our computers along; so the rest of our news for today will wait for our next report.  We’re going to be helping Naomi’s Dad with making dinner, so we also really need to get going now; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 29, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

Our sleepover last night – along with the barbeque dinner and evening entertainment of music and movies – was definitely the highlight of our day; and we’re not just reporting that because we really love the co-ed cuddle time with our best friends! ;^)

We are not, by the way, working on anything this year for the Fourth of July parade this year, and while we did think about it; we decided to take a break this year so that we could enjoy the parade as spectators.  It won’t be that much longer before we’ll be drafted for parades every year; since we’ll definitely join the school band and teen praise team once we’re old-enough to do that.  We’re busy enough anyway; and don’t want to add more to our schedules.

Moving along, the rain continued overnight and we’ve had more of it today, but there have been breaks of nicer weather too; and one of those sunnier parts of our day conveniently showed up in time for our baseball practices – which for Aiden and I was also a make-up ball game against the Barons that we won by a score of six-to-three.  I won’t suggest that our team didn’t earn that win convincingly, but can also add that our game was shortened to the minimum innings because of time constraints; so the Barons might have done better if we’d been able to play a full game.

We also still had our pizzeria pizza picnic during the two rounds of practices, but we didn’t have much of a fan club for our game while most of our favorite girls were busy with Ehlana and Naomi’s practice or other plans tonight.  The weekly picnic dinner and baseball were highlights of our day, but we had some play time with our friends during one of the earlier rain breaks; and on the less-fun side; we took care of some chores for Mom because we want all of the usual weekend work finished by Friday.  That may require working in the rain now and then over the next few days, and isn’t much fun; but we’ll be happy to get most of the weekend off even if the work can be uncomfortable while wet.

Moving along again, we came home after the game and practices without our best friends; and we’re not doing another sleepover – though we might have had a camping night if not for more rain in the forecast.  Bath or Jacuzzi time was next up on our to-do list; we did some work or studying in the office with Mom and Dad after that – including a Magi lesson; and we just finished up with a music practice.  That’s pretty much all we have for tonight, and after another late night last night; we’re ready to get some sleep now.  The next couple of days could end up being more work than play time for us, but we’ll let you know how that goes for us.  It really is time to crash and nap now, though; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 28, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

We’ve had a pretty good day despite getting rain off-and-on; so we can’t complain about another day with more indoor time than we’d like or miss the baseball that was cancelled again today because of the soaked ball diamonds.  There is more rain expected for the rest of the day and overnight; so while we’re on the latest rain break; we’re getting ready to host a sleepover with Naomi and Aiden – and they’re checking in with parents and packing overnight bags before coming back here in time for dinner with Mom and Dad.

The rest of our news for today can wait for our next report, since most of the fun is still ahead of us; so we won’t bore you with another standard play day report to this point in the afternoon.  We should move on now anyway because Mom will likely draft us to help out in the kitchen with making dinner and some extra holiday weekend pre-cooking she’s been doing today too; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 27, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

The daytime weather has been nicer today, but we’ve also had a comparatively-quiet day too.  Tai Chi by the river was good and so was breakfast with Mom and Dad.  Our time at church and Sunday school was good too while not at all newsworthy either; and then we spent the afternoon biking and playing with our friends while Mom and Dad worked at home and in the office.  Dinner was an easy-meal with just Mom and Dad, but we had the added bonus entertainment of a video chat with Cassie and Michael and got the full report from Julian and Jillian’s wedding.  Cassie’s really busy getting her mid-term exams graded and submitted by tomorrow; and then she’ll be even busier next week as the summer session moves into the second-half of the term.

We took care of the post-dinner clean-up while Dad got back to work; and it has been a quiet evening around here since then.  Mom did a Magi lesson with us; we did some research or archives work after that; and just finished up bath or Jacuzzi time.  Getting some extra sleep tonight is an option, and we should take advantage of that; since the coming week is going to be very busy while getting ready for the holiday weekend.  We can write more about that as we live those adventures, and don’t have anything else to add to this update; so, until next time...

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - June 26, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

Congratulations, Julian and Jillian Sparks – you’re married!

We were not attending the wedding in Woodvale today, but Cassie and Michael went there straight from their townhouse; and Violet, Dillon, and Ryan are in Woodvale for the weekend too along with quite a few members of the Sparks clan and a group of Julian’s friends.  A rainy day is probably never wanted for any wedding, but that’s what we’ve had for a lot of today both here and in Woodvale; with the only difference being that our ballgames were postponed today while the wedding went on despite the rain and thunderstorms.

How weird would it be if that was done the other way around? :^)

This is supposed to be a double update, but we’re actually really tired tonight; so the details of our past few days will be a bit lacking as we keep this short and then get some sleep.

We’ve already mentioned the shopping trip to the city; so let’s only cover the weird parts of that little adventure.  First up, while we’re basically one-hundred percent vaccinated here at home; we didn’t get a huge turnout for the trip – mostly because many of our neighbors continue to be cautious with going anywhere with large crowds.  We can’t exactly explain the real reasons for why that isn’t a worry for us, but certainly understand why that should be a reasonable reaction for them – and anyone that has actually taken the experimental vaccines that are out there when we won’t know for years whether those shots will protect against the inevitable variants that will evolve over time.

Saving up a rant on that topic for another day, because of those concerns, we only had fifty-three shoppers for the trip to the city.  The weird continued once at the mall and other stores during the day, since being vaccinated didn’t matter when it came to wearing masks most of the time we were indoors.  On the plus side, there were some great sales, and on the other side of that good-bad equation; we didn’t enjoy the food court fast food experience very much at all.  Add in some of the funny cameo moments like groups of teens and tweens trying to coordinate outfits with masks; and that should be enough to give you a good picture of our shopping trip.  As usual, we wrapped up the trip with the supply shopping; picked up fast food to go; and got home shortly-before our last report.

Despite a very long day to that point, we stayed up late for our sleepover at Aiden’s house; the movies, music, and co-ed sofa sleepover were all really great; and then we were disappointed this morning when all of the ballgames were cancelled.  Unfortunately for us, outdoor chores didn’t get rained out too; so we ended up getting a lot of wet, dirty work done today at all three homes.  Naomi and Aiden didn’t work with us all day, but we were allowed to work together for most of the morning; and then we were at our own homes or the bakery for the rest of the day.  For us, that meant working with Dad in the yard, gardens, and some work in the storage barn; we kept busy until near-dinnertime; and then we hit the showers and got cleaned up before having that meal with just the four of us.

We were all getting tired by then, but Mom and Dad joined us in the lounge for a movie after we ate and cleaned up from that meal; and we just finished up with a bit of music fun that Dad joined us for too.  That’s pretty much all we have for tonight, and we really are ready to crash and sleep now; so, until next time...
