Happy 17th Birthday, Tim!
This has been a bit of a strange day; in
part because we’ve had thunderstorms and a lot of rain today that’s still
continuing off and on overnight. I’ll
get to the birthday news in a bit; but let’s take this update from the
beginning.
My day started with seeing Dad off on his
week in the city; a nap with Mom, the twins, and two pets; Tai Chi by the
river; and breakfast for five because Michael stayed to have that meal with us
before we headed for the school for our football and cheerleading tryouts.
I’ll start with the cheerleading; since
that’s what I spent my day having fun with while playing with Rowen and the
rest of the girls. It’s definitely a big
change being one of the seniors this year, and while Rowen is Head Cheerleader;
we are a team – just as we’ve been every year since trying out in Grade Nine. Being the leaders is part of that, since
Rowen doesn’t just want to pick a cheer squad – she wants to make this fun and
teach the teens that will take over from us – just as some of the older girls
did with us over the past three years.
We also get to put our own touches on the squad; and this season will be
all about family-friendly entertainment – even if that takes a bit away from
the teen-level fun. That makes sense to
us, since the vast majority of spectators at all small town games are adults
and younger kids; and we can have fun with that while still hopefully keeping
our teen reputations intact. ;^)
Okay, being two of the top three geeks in
our year might not be a big deal for the reps; but we are dating the football
team stars; so I suppose we should worry about their reputations.
Moving along, we had a good turnout for our
tryouts; had more fun than the boys did because we could move our workouts
indoors when the rain and thunderstorms started; and the guys only had to make
adjustments whenever lightning was in the area.
They played through even the worst of the rain – just as they’ll need to
do during games if weather is an issue.
Sticking with the cheerleading, I don’t think that we’ll have any
changes to the squad for the returning cheerleaders, but there is some competition
for everyone except Rowen and me; and we have more than half of the Grade Nine
girls vying for the two spots on the squad.
Rowen will make that decision on Wednesday or Thursday; and then we’ll
have two days to get ready for the game on Friday evening.
On the football side of the tryouts today,
I don’t have much first-hand news.
Michael and I talked for a while after we got home from Tim’s party, but
I missed out on a lot of their workout because we were in the gym during the
parts of their practice that would have shown me a lot about each of the
players. I will tell you that Tim and
Michael will be the undisputed stars, and while they obviously can’t go all out
and show off skills that would be impossible for normal teens; they are going
to push the limits to be the best. They
can do that, since all of the work, weight training, and extra practices have
paid off; and Rowen and I get the bonus of having seriously-hot boyfriends!
I can also add that they’re reasonably
happy with their quarterback; are a bit worried about how good their running
game will be this year; and hope their defense will be a bit better than last
year. Tim might be a bit too much like
Kyle as Captain, and I am sure he will get that job, but he does have Michael
too; and they’re a good balance both as wide receivers and motivators for the
rest of the team. I’ll keep you posted
on how the tryouts go; but don’t expect any major surprises.
We – the cheerleaders – had a full-day
workout today; so I only had time to come home; get ready for Tim’s birthday
party; and then meet up with Rowen to go over to Tim’s house to help with the
work for his birthday dinner. Michael
and Tim joined us once they were done with football for the day; and I’m not
going to write a lot about Tim’s party because it was fairly low-key. He had family and friends over; the dinner
was standard summertime barbeque fare; and we played around for a while in the
evening until ending the party early due to football and work plans on Tuesday.
I won’t comment too much on why this wasn’t
Tim’s most-exciting birthday ever, but then he and Rowen did their own
celebrations on the weekend; and his gifts today were tame compared to getting
his Corvette last year. That’s likely
for the best, since he’s totally focused on football this year; and the rain
and storms tonight wouldn’t have made camping at Quarry Lake any fun this time
around! ;^)
I brought Michael home with me after the
party; helped him out with some healing from the tough football day; and we had
some cuddle time in the lounge before he went home for the night to get some
sleep ahead of football day two while I got ready for bed and started in on my
stack of family business work. That was
hours ago, but I don’t have any major news to report from that work – though I
am overdue for an update about some of the things we are accomplishing through
the business and with our future plans.
Let’s look at that again after our next future plans meeting in
September.
For now, I really just need to get into nap
mode so I’ll be ready for our second day of cheerleading tryouts. I may have a guaranteed spot on the team, but
it really is more work helping Rowen with being in charge; so I’ll likely need
to do a bit of self-healing in the morning too.
I’ll let you know how that goes with the next report, but it’s past-time
for some sleep; so, until next time...
...May the Magi Force be with you!
