Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - November 10, 2018

Ethan:

Dinner and a movie night is always fun, so even without Naomi and Aiden there too; we had a good night.  Zack was in fine form, which means that he managed to annoy all of the younger girls in our family – and some of the Moms too.  While we were together as a big group for the food part of the adventure, Ehlana and I were on the far-side of the rest of our cousins from the parents’ end of the table; and our dinnertime conversation was kid-rated – including most of the humor that Zack tried to interject to impress Caleb and Sebastian.  The movie included a lot of action and stuff getting blown up, so that kept Zack’s attention for most of that hour and a half or so of family entertainment; and then it was time for the kids to play upstairs for a while so the parents could have some work week wind down time together.

That’s when Zack kicked up his version of fun several notches – and annoyed the girls the most.  I won’t go into the details, but did try my best to make that easier on Ehlana, Brianna, Faith, and Leah while they tried to have fun too.  Zack slowed down a bit once the rest of our cousins headed home for the night, but he still stayed up late with the video gaming; and took time to bug Ehlana and Brianna until they went to sleep.  I stayed up with him; we didn’t get much sleep; and woke up to a very cold morning with temperatures far-enough below freezing to have us glad that we were indoors for Tai Chi and a hot breakfast.

I really don’t want to write about the work part of our day; and that’s entirely because of the cold weather that barely got above freezing by this afternoon for the high of the day.  Let’s just list this as one of those fall chores days that you have to push through because the work needs to be done; and try not to call up those memories from long-term storage ever again.  We did get the work done, though; and then we’ve had a quiet night at home since then – partly because Dad has a lot to get done this weekend ahead of his week in the city.  That’s early this year because of the Thanksgiving holiday, but he wouldn’t want to try to get everything done in three days; and it’s tough to do his ‘city’ work during holidays anyway; since everything seems to slow down around the courthouse ahead of any of the major holidays.

Ehlana and I did some studying in the office, but we’re not staying up late; and we’ll probably spend Sunday afternoon at the lab and archives while Dad’s busy anyway; so taking it easy tonight works for us.  We’re also tired; which is why we’re going to bed comparatively-early for a Saturday night.  I guess that isn’t very exciting, but we are going to be ready for the Thanksgiving holiday – and getting to have Cassie and May home with us for that week; so the work will be worth it.  Resting up a bit to be ready for the holiday fun is important too; so I’m just going to wrap this up and get to doing that starting right now.

Ethan – out!

Ehlana:

What Ethan said, plus I had fun with Brianna for a sleepover buddy last night; that movie was only good for the action sequences and nothing else; and I agree that we don’t need to talk about a chores day that really couldn’t be fun for any of us while working out in the cold for most of the day.  I will add that our parents are not being hard on us with that work.  Our chores are geared for our age – for the most part; and we do have advantages that other kids don’t – like self-healing that includes automatically protecting ourselves from the effects of prolonged exposure to weather of any kind.  That doesn’t mean that we can’t be uncomfortable, but it does take longer to wear us down.

I’m there now too – even though I didn’t have to stay up late playing video games, and I do want to be rested and ready to play at the lab tomorrow afternoon; so that’s all I have for tonight too.  Last night was fun; today wasn’t; and you’ll have to stay tuned to find out how the second-half of our weekend goes for us.  Sleep is all I want to do now, so unless I have some especially-amazing dreams; I won’t have anything to write about for the next eight or nine hours of my life while I’m enjoying the down time.

This is Ehlana Proctor; coming to you live from what is now my past!
