The Ridge River Raiders are State Champions
again this year!
I have a hotel sleepover with Michael to
get to now, so let’s get right to the news of the day before Michael and Rowen
end up in the wrong hotel rooms for the rest of the night! ;^)
First up, the weather couldn’t have been
better for the big game! The temperature
climbed into the low seventies today; and we had sunny skies for most of the
day too! We were up against Clairmont
again, and while they played hard; I didn’t think that the outcome was in doubt
right from the start. Michael and Tim
had four touchdowns each, and we tacked on a field goal near the end, but Coach
Robinson didn’t have our team let up until the end; since Clairmont did score
on us seven times too. The difference
today, though, was that they only scored one touchdown and had to settle for
six field goals. That was the entire
difference in the fifty-nine to twenty-five final score; but I’ll add that
Michael and Tim had everything to do with our brilliant defensive stands
against an offense that was nearly as potent as ours this year.
Since I’m on the game news, I’ll add that
Rowen and I had a blast with our fellow cheerleaders; the weather helped us out
with our top pick for our half-time routine; and we impressed everyone watching
the big game today – including our home-town supporters! That was extra-special because Jacob came to
catch Michael’s last high school match – along with Tim’s parents and everyone
else. Miranda wouldn’t take the time off
on such a busy day at the Inn, but Jake and Stephanie were able to convince Jacob
that they could handle the buffets and lunch without him – and he left not long
after the end of the game so he could be home again for most of the dinner
rush.
Having his father there did motivate
Michael, and it was a great surprise for us too; since we weren’t told about it
until shortly-before the game started. I’m
getting this report timeline messed up, but that probably helped Michael and
Tim to end up as co-winners of the MVP award for the small-school championship
game. That worked for them, since they
have been the most valuable players as a duo pretty much all season. They received that award at the banquet
tonight; and I sent a video of those highlights to Miranda; since they couldn’t
be there to see Michael and Tim get that award – or the team award and a couple
of others that went to our players and team.
Okay, Michael’s on the way over and Rowen’s
ready to go; so I need to speed this up.
We had a too-early start to our day; I was
one of the drivers for the cheerleaders; and we were at Central State’s stadium
with lots of time for the walk-through and to get set up ahead of the game –
which is a lot easier for the small-school teams because we have the first
match of the day. All of that was fun; I’ve
covered enough of the game except for again mentioning that Michael and Tim
played brilliantly; and we had extra fun with the cheerleading thanks to all of
the hometown support. The guys wanted to
watch the other games, so we did that after packing up; had time to check in to
the hotel after that – for those of us staying the night; and then we had time
to get ready for the banquet.
Not all of the girlfriends went to that
dinner and awards ceremony, but Rowen and I did; and we loved getting to share
that last blast of high school football fun with our favorite boys. We’re also okay with that chapter of our
lives ending so that we can have more time for other things, but I won’t say
anything about football being done too; since we still have months to go until
college and pro football is finished for another year in January and February.
Football will not be on the agenda for the
rest of our night – if the boys have any sense at all! ;^)
I really need to go now, though, so I’ll
save up the rest of that news for the next update – without likely actually
reporting any of the best parts of our sleepovers! Michael’s knocking on the door now, though,
and Rowen’s ready to go over to spend the night with Tim; so I’m out of here
and back to the real world now!
Until next time...
...May the Magi Force be with you!
P.S.
I totally missed out on all of the Black Friday shopping – and didn’t
really miss it all that much at all – though I did miss the family and friends
time that would have gone along with the shopping! Oh well – there’s always next year!
