I may have mentioned a time or ten recently
that it can be good to be a kid; but I don’t feel that way tonight as I’m
writing this while Cassie and Michael are staying up late and having fun at
their grad party. Cassie has gone
through this too, and I’m not complaining; but it might be nice to not have to
pretend to be less than we are most of the time – and we’ll likely need to do
that for our entire lives.
That was true for me a lot today – starting
with our ballgame this morning. Aiden
and I had a good game, and our Garden Gnomes beat Taylor’s Trolls in a close,
sometimes comical game; but it can be tough to play ‘normal’ because we can’t
get the kind of attention we would earn if we played our very best. Aiden and I do want to keep our friends and
not totally freak them out, though; so we’ll keep doing what we’re told – and the
ice cream treats after the game does make up a bit for not being allowed to
throw hundred-mile-an-hour curve balls!
The chores that we had to do after the game
weren’t as much fun, but then we got to play after that; the grad party dinner
was pretty good; and then we watched Violet and Dillon’s ball game while the
teens at our house partied on without us.
That ballgame didn’t end as happily for our family, since the Witch Falls
Wasps lost to Sheldon’s Stingers. Cassie
and Michael are going to get the blame for that, since their grad party kept
Jake and Stephanie from playing tonight because they had to work at the Inn
instead.
After the game, we came home; got to say
goodnight to Cassie, Michael, and the rest of their friends; and then we were
sent up to bed. We got ready for bed;
and then went into one of the back bedrooms and watched the party from above
for a while until we were bored and ready to go to bed.
We do have Father’s Day ahead of us
tomorrow, and I promised Zack that Ehlana and I would play with him and Brianna
tomorrow afternoon while Dad will be busy getting ready for his week in the
city; so I should probably get some sleep now – even if nobody else in the
house does get more than a bit of nap time tonight by the time the party and
clean-up is done.
Okay, we’re back around to another example
of when it’s good to be a kid, since I don’t have to stay up and do that work
in the wee hours of the morning; so I’ll digitally shut-up now and enjoy the
extra sleep!
Ethan – out!

Ehlana:
I love morning Tai Chi by the river –
especially when we get to do that with extra exercise buddies – like we did
today with Naomi and Aiden! That’s
always a great way to start the day; and then the breakfast in the sunroom was
good too; and we had a bonus visit from Violet and Dillon before they headed
out to Woodvale for the day to do a Father’s Day and Violet’s birthday visit
with her family – a quick round-trip before they needed to be back here for
their ballgame tonight.
Naomi and I had fun cheering for Ethan and
Aiden at their game; we helped them to win with that cheer squad support that
Aunt Leanne and Brianna helped us with; and then Naomi had to move on to hang
out with her own family while I had to help out with gardening chores as we got
the house and yard ready for the grad party.
The chores were followed by some play time; the grad party dinner in the
back yard; and Violet and Dillon’s ballgame.
There was some play time at the park; a short visit with the teens in
our back yard once we got home; and then Ethan and I were sent up to bed for
the night. We had our bedtime chat in
the middle guest bedroom on the second floor at the back of the house so we
could watch the party and campfire for a while, but that really wasn’t all that
exciting to just watch from a distance; so we came back to our rooms; and I’ve
been doing some work on my iPad since then – some research that will help me
out with the work we’ll be doing in the lab this summer. I’m not supposed to stay up all night doing
stuff like that, but will get away with a bit of that while Mom and Dad are
busy with their own work in the office and, eventually, the party clean-up.
I am hoping to find a cure for the common
cold this year, though; so the extra effort will be worth it.
Getting some sleep is next up on my to-do
list for the summer; so it’s time for me to go and do that now.
This is Ehlana Proctor; coming to you live
from what is now my past!
