Cassie Stone's Journal - January 2, 2021

Happy New Year 2021!

Those best wishes are a day late, but I do hope for better this year – as is likely true for everyone that has been dealing with the pandemic over the past year.

My journal updates have been a bit sparse over the past few weeks, but even while we’ve been home for the holidays; there just don’t seem to be enough hours in the day to keep up with everything.  I’m writing this now while Michael is busy watching the last round of college football with the guys; and we just got back from a bedtime visit with Sierra and her parents.  It has been non-stop busy all day, but I’ll still keep this short and only cover a few highlights from the past few days.

Topping that list might be the winter storm that blew through our area for New Year’s Day.  The snow and ice did more than mess up the roads and holiday travel here and in a lot of places across the region, but the kids have enjoyed the snow play; and the adults did not have nearly as much fun with the major clean-ups that took away from the holiday fun.  New Year’s Eve was better, but while we had fun at the party at the Inn, it was also much-smaller than would have been normal; and we didn’t get to share that fun with nearly as many friends and neighbors as we would have liked.  We did still get to be with our families and some friends, though; and the parties that were going on around here were much better than what was possible in a lot of other places around the country and world.

Finally, our family Christmas was held today – mostly because we collectively decided not to do that yesterday because of the imminent bad weather.  A lot of work went into the main meal and everything else we’ve been having fun with today; and that has a lot to do with why I’m tired and ready to get some sleep soon.  That isn’t true for everyone in the house – or around our family, but Michael and I will leave the late-night entertainment to anyone that has the energy for video gaming, movies, or other activities while we get as much sleep as possible.

I’m going to wrap this up; get ready for bed now; and then wait for Michael to catch up with me – which I expect him to do as soon as he senses that I’m ready to share some quality cuddle-and-nap time with him!  We’ve had a wonderful, if sometimes-strange end to 2020, and while the start to 2021 was a bit stormy; we are looking forward to an amazing, exciting, and hopefully-better New Year.
