Ehlana and Ethan:
Happy 42nd Birthday, Mom!
This is another early update because Mom is
celebrating her birthday in the city tonight, but we didn’t go along because
there won’t be any entertainment available in the city anyway. They’ll have a romantic birthday dinner for
two in Dad’s hotel room instead of going out to the Malloys or elsewhere; and
definitely don’t need kids around for that!
We’re doing this early because we’re also at Naomi’s house tonight –
along with Aiden; and we don’t want to take our computers along with us for that
sleepover. Cassie, Michael, and May are
not taking that opportunity for a major party – they’re spending the evening
with his parents once they have their studies done for the day.
We had fun last night with dinner, movies,
music, and some video gaming. Tai Chi
was chilly, but warm-enough to be out by the river; so that was a great way to
start Mom’s special day. Cassie and
Michael led the way for the breakfast cooking, but we all helped; and Jacob
brought over a special breakfast dish too; since he and Miranda were among the
guests that included grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and some
friends. That ended up being an hour and
a half of food and birthday fun – followed by a massive clean-up that we were
drafted for too while Mom got ready for her visit to the city. After that, Cassie, Michael, and May had
Rowen and Tim with them for their morning video lectures in the office; we
stayed around the house until Mom headed out; and then we did a visit to the
lab and archives with Naomi and Aiden because it was still a bit cool for
biking or park play.
It hasn’t exactly warmed up to summertime
temperatures this afternoon, but after a major breakfast, we still were happy
to pack a picnic for a late lunch at the park and head out on our bikes after
getting that ready by a bit before one o’clock.
It was around fifty degrees by then, so we were comfortable-enough; did
the southern loop of the trail around town and then up to the park; met up with
some friends who were happy to help us eat everything we had with us; and then
stay for more biking and playground fun.
We’re home now to get cleaned up and packed
for our sleepover at Naomi’s – and to have a visit with our favorite collegians
before we head out again for the night.
There hasn’t been a lot of chances to spend time with them again today –
unless you include the work before and after breakfast, but we might end up
getting extra time off from school too; so next week might be an option for us
while they’re on Spring Break.
That isn’t being considered because our
school or town leaders think it is needed, but only because we wouldn’t want to
draw attention to ourselves when other schools are shutting down for the rest
of the month. We’ll know the decision on
that by the end of the week; and keep you posted. That’s about it for today, since the best fun
is still ahead, but we’ll write all about that tomorrow! For now, we need to get back to real life so
that we can have all of that fun and have something good to report next time.
