This is to be a double-update; so let’s
start from yesterday morning; and I’ll try to cover the highlights.
We checked out of our hotel early yesterday
morning; had breakfast at a family diner on the way out of the city; and
managed to keep ourselves entertained during the long drive up to the Grand
Canyon. It took a long time just to warm
up into the fifties there; and didn’t stay that warm for all that long; but it
was still warmer compared to winter at home; and there are some advantages to
visiting the Grand Canyon when it isn’t too hot for comfort!
My personal highlights for all of our
adventures here have included sharing the experience with Michael and my
family; and that’s a statement all on its own; since the natural wonder we’ve
been exploring for the past day and a half is truly-stunning; and is simply an
experience that just can’t be adequately described – it needs to be experienced
in person if at all possible. Yesterday
afternoon, we went hiking for several hours after having lunch and setting up
our campsites; and Michael and I had a lot of fun as we were in charge of
Brianna while her parents were very, very busy keeping up with Zack. He has definitely been a handful around here,
and while that’s usually been very entertaining too; Zack very well could be a
poster child for why the Magi council has so many rules about Magi kids! ;^)
I’m sure that Uncle Adam or Aunt Leanne
will have much more about Zack’s adventures at the Grand Canyon, but I’ll still
mention that he needed to be convinced that we couldn’t use our talents for a number
of different activities – like jumping off the edge of the canyon look-out
without a bungee cord or other, non-Magi-powered aid; we were not permitted to
have a Magi-powered archeological dig for complete dinosaur skeletons; and we
weren’t going to try climbing the canyon without any climbing gear! Despite his disappointments, we’ve had a lot
of fun with the hiking, camping, a trail ride, and everything else we’ve done
today while continuing to explore the canyon and area around it. The cuddling with Michael last night was
great too; and I’m looking forward to doing that again tonight. Don’t read more into that than there is – we do
have camping buddies in the tent with us; and you’ll likely find if funnier
that Naomi picked Ethan for her sleeping bag cuddle buddy; which left Aiden
with Ehlana. He’s so sweetly-shy about
that sort of thing that he’s adorable, but it was cold last night; so he did
not actually have a problem with sharing a sleeping bag with Ehlana when that
meant staying warm!
We’ll be doing the same thing tonight;
though it won’t get quite as cold. That
was another last-minute decision; and we decided to stay so that we could start
out for Phoenix first thing in the morning and do some sightseeing along the
way back to the city. The temperature in
Phoenix is supposed to be in the high-eighties tomorrow too; so I’m looking
forward to getting in on some of that hot weather for the rest of the
week. I’m doing this update and my email
checks and a bit of work now because Michael and I are going to go out for
another evening walk and enjoy the wonders to be seen around here at night –
possibly the last chance we’ll get to do that for a lot of years to come. We will do a lot of traveling once we’re done
college, but that won’t likely include a trip to Arizona anytime soon.
Fortunately for us, there are amazing
wonders that we’d like to see in other places all over the world. This place will always be a favorite for me;
and I am so glad that I have the kind of memory that will allow me to
perfectly-remember every amazing moment we’ve had here!
I do have that little night-time adventure –
and the sleeping bag sleepover – to get to with Michael; so it’s time to wrap
this up and get back to having fun in the real world! Look for my next update from Phoenix, and
while you flip the digital page to find out what happens next on our holiday; I’ll
get back to living it so I’ll be able to write that next report tomorrow night!
Until next time...
...May the Magi Force be with you!
