I promised not to complain about the
weather today, and I won’t; but I am going to mention that weather forecasters
are sometimes clueless!
Today is a good example of that. We did eventually get the forecasted
thunderstorms and rain, but the weather reports continually predicted them to
start – again – by mid-morning; and then they just kept pushing the time back
when the skies remained clear and we had another beautiful, hot day through
until the first storm did roll through town at around four o’clock.
We had some rain early this morning too,
but the temperature warmed overnight; and the rain just gave us a bit more
business for the early part of the breakfast buffet that Jacob and Miranda put
on for everyone – including many of the midway employees that got a special
deal for their meals. Michael and I got
a bit wet getting to the Inn, but the rain was done by the time we were set
free to go and play at the park; the temperature was in the eighties already by
then; and we had a blast playing with our families and some friends all day.
Every hour that was rain-free was a bonus
to us; and the only change in our plans for the day came with those
late-afternoon thunderstorms. Michael
had already been booked for working the dinner-to-close shift; but I was called
in because the thunderstorms had all visitors to the park either heading home
or running for cover – to places like the Inn.
Miranda ended up with a full house for dinner, and since she’d expected
a small crowd because of the festival; we needed to work our tails off to keep
up with the business. Other teens
answered the call for extra help, but we were still short-staffed; and Michael
and I worked to close.
While we worked, the festival organizers
and volunteers made a quick decision to move the dance to the school gym; that
set-up was done in the rain; and the party moved to the school – with many of
our diners moving from the Inn to the school for the dance after enjoying their
meals. The festival was still going on
at the park, but anyone braving the rain spent most of their time in the
pavilions; and the rides either couldn’t run or paused anytime thunder and
lightning was in the area. While that
did affect the festival and especially the game booths and charity fundraisers;
the awesome weather through until this afternoon more than made up for that
compared to other years when the weather was cooler and even more volatile.
Michael came home with me after work; and
we took over babysitting from Grandma and Grandpa. They had most of the cousins, Naomi, and
Aiden here; and had taken the babysitting job so that the parents could go to the
dance. They were going to make an
appearance at the dance after leaving us, but didn’t plan on staying long. All of the kids were still awake and watching
kid-rated Halloween shows in the lounge; so Michael and I joined in on that fun
until we could start getting them tucked in for the night.
Mom and Dad came home at midnight; helped
us with the last few kids; and now I’m getting ready for a sofa sleepover with
Michael while he’s getting changed too and setting up a movie that we probably
won’t watch before falling asleep. If we
didn’t have a house full of kids, I’d be tempted to do a bit of Magi Healing
and make sure that Michael and I ‘made’ some time for some make-out fun, but
that isn’t an option; so I’ll settle for some quiet cuddle time and the nap.
Tomorrow will be a busy day with a bit more
festival fun and a buffet-to-close shift along with helping our teen praise
team to lead the service at church in the morning and getting a gang of kids
fed and ready for church. We have lucked
out with another awesome day, though; and I think tomorrow will be amazing too –
even if the weather has already crashed back into something close to normal for
a mid-October weekend!
I’ll let you know how that goes for us with
the next update, but I have some quality cuddling to get to now; so, until next
time...
...May the Magi Force be with you!
