It’s Friday the 13th in October,
and while that could be scary; it wasn’t for us today in any way at all!
My day started out great with Brianna’s
wake-up call; she joined us for Tai Chi by the river and made that a lot more
fun; and then we had fun with breakfast and getting ready for our play day at
the Fall Festival. Mom had to take over
watching Brianna when the rest of us needed to get to work or school, but they
were meeting up with a bunch of KidZone kids and volunteers for their own play
day at the festival; so they weren’t sad to see us go to school.
The first thing I need to note about our
adventures today is that the weather has been awesome! Thanks to a major change in the forecast,
that isn’t looking so hot for tomorrow now, but then we dodged potential rain
and thunderstorms tonight; so maybe we’ll get lucky for at least some of
tomorrow too. For today, though, the
temperature was in the low seventies by the time we went to the park; and
topped out in the mid-nineties – at least for the ‘feels like’
temperature. That’s way better than we
should normally hope for at the Fall Festival; and we all really enjoyed the
heat that allowed us to feel more like we were at a summer fair.
We certainly had more fun on the rides, and
while there wasn’t anything completely new; BMR Labs helps to make sure we do
get some great rides; and we get an awesome deal on the pay-one-price tickets
we all buy for the student day special offers.
More area schools got in on those deals this year than ever before –
including our football rivals for the game tonight. Ridgeway High came out in force for the
festival and stayed for the game, so even with the festival going on; we still
had a great turnout for the game tonight too.
Before I get to that, though; let’s cover
some more of the festival news. Michael
and I spent most of the day with Rowen and Tim, but we also played with other
friends; the twins and their friends; and some of our cousins. We helped out with getting Ethan’s and Ehlana’s
class from the school to the park; helped out with lunch; and then we didn’t
have any volunteer work to do after that for the rest of the day because we had
football and cheerleading to deal with instead.
That didn’t cut our time short at the park, but then most kids and teens
stayed there after school and played all evening – or all of it except for the
football game.
The thrill rides were high on the fun list
today, but we also watched some of the shows; checked out the display
pavilions; and played quite a few of the games.
Michael and I donated most of the prizes we won to younger kids – or helped
them to win prizes; but I do have two new stuffies in my room tonight too. We needed to be at the school well-ahead of
the game; though the guys needed to be there before Rowen and I did; so we
spent a bit of extra time with Ethan, Ehlana, Naomi, and Aiden before following
Michael and Tim to the school and getting ready for the game.
I’m not going to spend much time writing
about the game. We won by a score of
sixty-four to thirty-three; and the game wasn’t even as close as that score
might suggest. Michael and Tim scored
five touchdowns each; and we didn’t kick any successful field goals at
all. For those of you that see that
score and realize it doesn’t add up to ten touchdowns; that’s because our
kicker got hurt and missed the last six point-after attempts – and we didn’t
try for any late field goals because of that.
Ridgeway did earn three solid touchdowns too, but had to settle for four
field goals earlier in the game; and then couldn’t finish drives late while
trying to catch up to us.
On the cheerleading side of things; we had
another really great night. This was our
last home game before Halloween, so our Friday the 13th half-time
routine was appropriately-themed; and we had a scary-good time with a Monster
High mash-up. That was popular with the
kids and teens; and I’m glad we put in the extra effort. We may also use that routine for the last two
away games; but I’ll keep you posted on that; since we do have other options
for routines that we’d like to use too – especially since this will be the last
season of cheerleading for Rowen and me – not including cheering for our
favorite baseball teams.
With the festival still going strong at the
park, the post-game festivities were short and sweet; we packed up, got cleaned
up; and then headed back over to the park to catch most of the teen dance and
the rest of the festival fun – including another blast or two of midway thrill
ride fun! We partied on with everyone
until the dance ended at one o’clock; Michael walked me home; and then I helped
him out with a bit of healing from football-related aches and strains before he
headed home for the rest of the night.
I was tempted to keep him for a sofa
sleepover, but we’re going to save that up for Saturday night instead – and we
might get to do that while the twins are away for the night at Aiden’s and
Naomi’s. Their best friends are here
again tonight, but only because three out of four of their parents will be busy
at work on Saturday. That reminds me
that I have a breakfast shift to work in a few hours; so I need to get started
on my nap soon too.
It’s been a really great, best-ever kind of
Fall Festival Friday for me, so even if we do get rained-out tomorrow; I won’t
be able to complain about that – even though it won’t be great for the festival
or the fund-raisers going on there this weekend. Before I get to the napping, I’ll wrap up
this report by mentioning that I ended up doing a bit of work tonight when some
family business email needed to be dealt with and I took care of getting some
money to where it needed to be to help out with a local problem that one of our
companies could help out with in their community. That was worth losing a bit of sleep for; and
the least I could do after getting to have such an awesome day!
The sleep is a priority now, though, and
that does pretty much cover the highlights of my day if not the itty-bitty
details; so, until next time...
...May the Magi Force be with you!
