Ehlana and Ethan:
Ethan’s semi-promised a wedding report; so
I’ll start with that; and then we’ll move on to our news of the day.
Going on a date with Aiden without having
Ethan and Naomi with us and on a date too was very different; and we were
definitely a minor bit of entertainment for our families and friends. May was happy to tease us too; since she didn’t
take a date to the wedding. I wouldn’t
suggest that Ethan and Naomi had more fun on their play date, but Aiden and I
really don’t know Joshua and Sally as well as Cassie and Michael do – or the
older cousins in Aiden’s family; so we really were just on the edges of the
wedding ceremony and the reception too.
We sat with Aiden’s family during the ceremony; that was very different
because we observed social distancing while at the church; and then we headed
for the Reynolds’ farm. We were only
involved in the wedding photos for the Reynolds’ family picture, but still had
to hang around until that was done; and it was a hot afternoon for doing
that. We were with ‘the kids’ for a lot
of the rest of the day; had fun; and stayed on the edges of the main dinner and
reception entertainment. Dinner was a
massive, country-farm barbeque. That was
very different from a gourmet dinner at the Inn, but just as awesome in
different ways; so Aiden and I were among the few kids willing to actually try
some of nearly every food offering. That
wasn’t a problem for any of the younger guys when it came to desserts; and I’ll
give Aiden bonus date points for staying out of the dessert-eating contests.
There was a social hour after dinner before
the dance began, but while some of the kids got changed or even went for a
swim; Aiden and I stayed dressed up; and had fun visiting with his family and
other guests. The dance was as
farm-country as it gets – especially with the music and dancing. The Reynolds hired a band; the ‘dance floor’
took up about half of one barn along with an outdoor area that semi-allowed for
social distancing; and we had a blast!
Aiden and I danced a lot during the rest of the night with short breaks
for drinks. Cassie and Michael earned
the win for the karaoke ‘contest’ during the band intermission, but we took a
turn too; and earned points for being adorable.
Winning might have been fun too, but our song options were limited; and
Cassie and Michael have been singing together for years. Aiden’s parents and sister headed home
earlier than we did – which had a lot to do with why we picked going home with
Cassie, Michael, and May; though the potential for a co-ed sofa sleepover at my
house was a factor too.
That’s pretty much all of the news from the
wedding; though I’ll mention that May danced a lot too – with several happy
dance partners. Cassie needed to run
interference for May with one over-interested guy who we won’t name here, but
other than that; May had a lot of fun.
The dance ended about an hour after Joshua and Sally headed for town and
a night at the Inn; we got home at a bit after two o’clock; and managed to get
our cuddle-and-nap time in the lounge started without waking Ethan and Naomi.
***
I’ll take the next part of our update, but
only because Ehlana and Aiden slept in this morning – as did Cassie, Michael,
and May. Naomi and I got up at our
normal time; Mom and Dad joined us for Tai Chi by the river; and then we only
had a snack and enjoyed some quiet time until everyone else was ready to get up
and we then had a brunch in the sunroom.
Cassie, Michael, and May still have two weeks until their classes start
again because of the one-week delay in the fall term, but they’re heading back
to their townhouse and apartment early – in part because some of their best
friends had already booked their travel plans; and they’re going to help out
with getting most of them set up in their apartments. We wish that we weren’t there already, but we
are; so we were happy with every minute of time we’ve had to share with our
favorite collegians today.
Share might have been the word of the day;
since we also needed to share Cassie and Michael with his family and some of
their friends. We still had that brunch
together; and then we had a play day that included a lot of swimming; some
biking; and a couple of ice cream breaks because it was really hot today. We had dinner at the Inn – in part so that
Cassie and Michael could spend some time with his parents, Jake, and Stephanie;
our evening included a short canoe ride and more swimming; and then Cassie,
Michael, and May headed for the pizzeria for some bonus time with Rebecca,
Lucas, and other friends while Naomi and Aiden headed for their homes. We walked with them – and took Silkie along;
came home; did a Magi lesson with Mom while May was out; and then it was
Jacuzzi or shower time for us.
That’s pretty much all of the news we have
for today, but before we wrap up; we should at least mention that the worldwide
confirmed cases of coronavirus topped twenty-million today. There was a slight decline in the total new
cases over the past week, but we still had more than one-point-seven-five
million new cases; and it’s too-early to know if that might be a trend –
especially when there are so many new outbreaks in Europe; and the growth of
cases in India and elsewhere continue to grow.
We don’t want to write any rants tonight about the pandemic. This has been a really awesome weekend; so we’ll
stay happy and think about getting back to more-serious issues next week.
For now, we’re ready to get some sleep; so
we will.
