Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - August 27, 2020

Ehlana, Ethan, Naomi, and Aiden:

The only change for today is that this update is coming to you at bedtime.  We’ve had another fun play day with our friends; our evening included a Magi lesson with Mom and a music jam session; and we’re currently enjoying the co-ed cuddle-and-movies time in our tent by the river that we’ll really miss a lot when we go back to school after the holiday weekend.  There were some chores this morning to get a head start on the usual work on Saturday, but that only took a couple of hours; and gave Naomi and Aiden time at their own homes or with their families while we were busy.  Our biking included a trip around town on the trail; semi-extreme fun at the park; and a picnic lunch that was sandwiched between long swim breaks in the river.

That’s pretty much all we have for here at home, but we’re overdue for some other updates; so let’s do that; and then we’ll get back to the movie and cuddling fun.

Cassie and Michael are having fun at school, but with a lot of weird going on too – and not all of it in a good way.  With thousands of students arriving from all around the country – or world, it is not surprising that there are already a couple of hundred confirmed Covid-19 cases on-campus, but that news still has a lot of the students there a bit freaked out; and some are wondering whether in-person classes will continue for very long.  We can’t answer that question, but our favorite students hope that won’t happen – especially when they’re paying for off-campus housing; and don’t also want added travel expenses that would go along with closing the campus again.

That isn’t actually what Cassie thinks is the bad part of the weird.  For that, it’s all about apps for tracking everyone on or near-campus; requirements or requests to report – rat out – others for breaking the new Covid-19 rules; and the students on the flip-side of that problem that are going out of their way to break those rules in some misguided need for anarchy.

We suspect that our return to school will be simple by comparison; since even the youngest kids in our town understand why we need to stay safe and protect everyone we love the most.  It would be really nice if Cassie and Michael’s fellow collegians could all play nice too, but that might be an ongoing problem; and we’ll keep you posted on how that goes for them.

On a side-line for the pandemic, we hit the six-million confirmed cases milestone today in our country, and while the daily totals are coming down; we’ll see if that trend continues or reverses as colleges and schools re-open over the next couple of weeks.  It’ll likely take until late-September or early-October to know the answer to that question; so we will have to wait and see how that goes – though there are a lot of factors that.  Worldwide cases are going to be even-tougher to guess at; since every country is at different stages of the pandemic; and have widely-different policies for dealing with their outbreaks.  All of that just means that we have no idea how much longer we’ll be dealing with the worst of the pandemic; and we won’t be surprised if it continues to be a problem through the fall and winter – if not longer.

Finally, we aren’t personally involved in our family business charity efforts to help out in Texas and Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, but Mom, Aunt Leanne, and others have been involved; and we are helping out.  Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the storm; and we hope that they’ll all be able to stay safe and be able to rebuild and recover as needed as quickly as possible.

That’s all for tonight, so we’ll get back to the quiet wrap-up for our day.

This is Ehlana Proctor and gang; live from the hidden home of the Magi of the Light – and May the Magi Force be with you!
