Ehlana and Ethan:
Our day started early; we saw Dad off on
his trip to Crystal Springs; and then we ended up taking Silkie for a walk and
staying awake until it was time for Tai Chi by the river. That workout was quieter with just three of us;
we had an easy-breakfast; and then we headed over to the lab for the
morning. The play time in the lab or
archives was fun; and then we met up with Naomi and Aiden before picking up a
picnic that Mom got ready for us – and our overnight bags and a tent that we
took over to Aiden’s house. We set up
the tent by the river first; and then we headed out onto the trail around town –
taking the long way to the park. We had
our lunch at a spot near the bridge that’s downriver from the falls; biked the
trails at the park with some friends; went for a swim at the park; and did more
biking before heading back to Aiden’s house.
His Dad came home from work early; Hailey and Leah were with him; and we
ended up hanging out together through until dinnertime. That meal was standard barbeque fare with
cold salads sides, but Olde Bakery buns are always great; and so are the
desserts!
We’ve been playing since dinner; Hailey and
Leah opted for ‘camping’ indoors instead of setting up another tent; and we’ve
been out in our tent since wrapping up the family time with a movie that Aiden’s
Dad didn’t join us for because that started after his bedtime. That, by the way, is still funny even in our
little town where early bedtimes aren’t really unusual; since the bakery work
starts a couple of hours before even the earliest-rising farmers. Hailey and Leah were in charge of picking
that movie, but they took it easy on the boys; and didn’t choose a princess or
Barbie movie – though they did pick one of those movies for their second movie
that they’re watching now. We’re
listening to music videos in the tent, but the co-ed cuddle time is
as-important as the chat time. We’re not
in any hurry to get to sleep, but that’s pretty much all of our news.
We should add that while we’ve been having
fun, Mom has been taking advantage of her kid-free time this afternoon for some
family business-related meetings and a girls’ night with Aunt Leanne and other
friends. No details are required for us! There isn’t anything for us to report from
Dad’s first day in the city – other than he’s had a busy day; and we’ve only
exchanged some texts with Cassie because she’s been busy all day with Michael
and their friends. We can report that
the start to this school year is very different for them from the part of it
that has to do with housing for their friends; and having most of them living
off-campus now could change things up for them all year. That’ll be more-true for the coronavirus
restrictions and new rules at their school, but the combination of the two
could lead to them doing a lot more of their work and studying off-campus too.
They still have a week to go until first
classes next Monday, but they’ve picked up their books and supplies; and are
working ahead while also helping their friends get settled into new places and
having some fun too. We’re glad that
Cassie and Michael can have some fun; since the school work is going to get
tougher for them – and especially for Cassie as she makes the big push for her
Bachelor’s Degree. Yes, they’ll have fun
with all of the work too, but even Cassie can get worn down when busy day and
night every day for weeks at a time.
We don’t really want to go on about school –
even when that isn’t for us; so let’s wrap this up; and we’ll get back to the
cuddle-and-chat wind down to our day.
