Ehlana and Ethan:
Happy 8th Anniversary, Rob and
Trish!
We did not celebrate their special day with
them at all – other than a hometown family gift that was sent to them last
week, but we’re happy for our Johnson family cousins; and hope they’re having a
happy day.
I’m supposed to do a birthday party and sleepover
report; so I’ll do that now; but keep it short.
Girls-only parties are still the norm for
our friends – even the friends that are a year older. There are changes happening, though; since
talking about boys is becoming more-popular – and not just in a
boys-are-annoying sort of way. Naomi
predicts that by next year we’ll have more co-ed parties; and fewer parents
interested in allowing those parties – or co-ed camping and sleepovers! ;^)
This party included games and swimming in
the afternoon; a family-and-friends barbeque dinner; more games and a campfire
in the evening; and then a tents-in-a-barn camping night due to the risk of
rain or thunderstorms last night. The
camping part of the fun was when most of the girl chat time happened; we stayed
up too-late; and then we were allowed to sleep in – for those of us who could
do that. Naomi and I slept in a bit, but
we were first to get up; Tai Chi on the farm was a nice change from our normal
workouts; and then we helped out with some of the work – including making
amid-morning breakfast and then cleaning up the campground in the barn. Naomi’s Dad came to get us when it was time
to head home; and I should add that Samantha was very happy with the party and
her birthday gifts.
We’ve had a play day since getting
home. That has included a picnic lunch;
biking, swimming, and play time with our friends; an Emporium ice cream stop;
and a bit of video gaming when we wanted an indoor break before dinner. Naomi and Aiden headed for their homes in
time for dinner; we’ve had a quiet work and study night here with Mom and Dad;
and we just finished up with the bath or Jacuzzi time that I needed more than
Ethan did after two play days and the camping adventure.
We haven’t talked with Cassie and Michael
today – they’re busy helping friends as they move into apartments as they get
ready for the fall semester. Few of
their friends have opted to stay in the residential halls – though some have
because that’s easier than cooking and the rest of the work involved with
living on your own. Cassie will be
making new friends as she starts her first in-class lectures with fourth-year
students; and it’s funny to think that she’ll earn her first ‘official’ degree
by Christmastime – her Bachelor’s Degree in Interpretation and
Translation. She could actually earn
multiple degrees in each of her languages too, but will probably won’t bother
to do that – unless the college decides to do that for her.
That’s all we have for tonight. We’re tired and ready to get some sleep; so
we will.
