Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - April 18, 2024

Ehlana and Ethan:

Happy 57th Birthday, Jacob Stone!

Cassie and Michael did an end-of-day for them breakfast chat with his family this morning, but they slept through the birthday dinner and game night at the Inn while we had fun helping his Dad with celebrating his special day.  That play time at the Inn was the highlight of our day too, since the food was great and Aiden and I won the junior game title too!  Try not to be shocked, since we do have some skills even though Naomi and Ethan get more attention for that sort of thing, and they supposedly didn’t win tonight because Naomi was helping her boyfriend out with having too much fun instead of focusing on the games!

That isn’t the case for Jacob, but one of his gifts was a senior team game night with for Miranda that Mom helped him out with to make sure that he’ll have a happier rest of the night after going home.  We do not want or need any of those details; and have no doubt that the jokes about that sort of thing were soundly-based in reality.

As for the rest of our day, Tai Chi by the river was nice-enough and it was near-sixty this morning, but we’ve had a bit of rain off and on today; and that was also the high for the day too and it has cooled down quite a bit tonight.  We were indoors most of the day at school thanks to the wet weather timing, but we had fun with our friends; and got a fair bit done too.  Mom had us help her out at the Inn with getting ready for Jacob’s birthday dinner, and there was a big turnout – including from neighbors that came out to the Inn for dinner while not being officially on the party guest list.  We’re not sure what to think about that, since that just meant more work for Jacob and the crew, but the business is still welcomed during the ‘off season’ for the stores in town; so maybe that was good for Jacob anyway.  I also want to mention that Jacob does not look as though he is in his late fifties now, and that is something that I am taking a look into with one of my research projects; since his latent Magi potential might have something to do with his youthful looks – just as we know that Magi talents can have that effect on aging for Magi and Magi Masters.

No, Grandma Eleanor does not appear to be twenty-nine as claimed, but she does look awesome for her true age that we won’t include here in our journals. ;^)

While we had a blast at the Inn, let’s only add in a few details before moving on and wrapping this up.  First, while Aiden and Naomi were our official dates tonight, we’re finding it a bit funny to think about the fact that Sophia and Aaron were there for actual family-connection reasons.  We were at the same table for dinner, so that added to our fun, and then the top gaming news for them was that they came in third for the junior title even though they don’t join us for more than one game night a month while their families are busy with other things.  Mom and Miranda didn’t really have any serious competitors on the way to their win, but then that was where most of the fun happened for them as their opponents often lost big to them with normally-impossible feats of bad game play.

Since we were on dates tonight, Ethan and I collected Silkie along the way while walking out dates to their homes and took care of the bedtime outing for her too.  Mom did a Magi lesson with us after we got home; and we did a bit of family charity work before coming up to our rooms.  We’ve kept our bedtime computing to a minimum tonight; and we’re pretty much ready to crash and nap now.

While we’re doing that, Cassie and Michael are getting started on their last full day near the Black Sea, and while they have two meetings and a site visit on the schedule; they will also be doing some sightseeing and taking the evening off to play before they head to St. Petersburg on their Saturday morning.  Their trip to Crimea went well without any trouble, and we’re glad that they’ve been able to visit the people we’re trying to help; we are also grateful that they’ve done that and are back to safer ground again.

While we’re thinking about their charity work, we also want to mention that we are doing what we can to help out on both sides of that conflict, but Cassie and Michael can’t really visit Ukraine right now too; since their government takes a very hard line against people that want to help anyone in Russia regardless of the reason.  It is also more-dangerous there with a lot of resource challenges; so direct visits from any of our volunteers aren’t going to happen anytime soon.

That’s enough for tonight.  We want to rest up for our last school day of the week and the weekend, so we’ll do that; and be back here in our virtual journals again sometime tomorrow!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
