Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - April 18, 2021

Ehlana and Ethan:

Happy 54th Birthday, Jacob!

The return of Sunday buffets to the Inn was likely a mixed blessing for Jacob today; since he might have been able to take the day off from work if not for all of the extra business that has returned to the Inn already as our friends and neighbors choose to enjoy those Sunday meals at the Inn more-often than normal.  We still tried to do our little part to help make his day special, but that was through passing along gifts from Cassie and Michael – along with hugs and kisses for Michael’s parents; since they couldn’t do that through a breakfast video chat.  Before we get to the rest of the news for today; let’s cover our sleepover adventures from last night.

Naomi and I had a pretty good night despite ending up with Zack and Eli around to annoy us off-and-on – and to a level we haven’t had to deal with in a while.  Their food fun at dinner and then with movie snacks were among the worst moments for us, but the prank attempts and bad jokes added up to a lot of too-much time with our younger brother and cousin respectively and collectively!  We still had fun with Naomi’s parents; the food was good; and the movies were fairly-entertaining for kid-rated action flicks.  Naomi and I had fun at bedtime that included hanging out with her Mom for nearly an hour after the movies; though that didn’t keep Zack and Eli from continuing their games until long-after we could even be mildly amused.  There isn’t any point in going on about that; so I’ll only add that Zack and Eli were still in fine form this morning before and during breakfast; so Naomi and I were glad to get back together with Ethan and Aiden at church – and then sit with Mom and Dad during the first part of the service.

For their part of the news from last night, Ethan and Aiden had a much-quieter night that ended up starting with some time at the bakery where they helped out with some chores while also keeping Hailey and Leah entertained until the bakery closed for the night.  They helped out with the work before and after dinner too; followed that up with a Disney princess movie that the girls picked; and then wrapped up their evening with some video gaming in Aiden’s room.  Their buddies didn’t think that sounded very exciting, but that’s why Hailey and Leah love Ethan and Aiden – and why Hailey and I will never be interested in trading our brothers for Eli, Zack, or any other offers we get for older or younger brother exchanges. ;^)

Moving along, our day together from the time we got to church has been pretty good, but not very eventful.  Dad still had a lot of work to get done ahead of his week in the city; and we won’t comment on what he might have been doing with all of the kid-free time he had available for work yesterday!  While he was busy after lunch; we went biking with Naomi and Aiden – including a ride out the new trail that will eventually go to Quarry Lake for as far as we could go on it so far.  That trail is ahead of schedule thanks to the pandemic and the resources that were diverted to that project to keep some of our neighbors working; and we’re looking forward to being able to bike out to Quarry Lake without doing that on any roads – just in time for when we’ll be old-enough to do that without adult or teen chaperones.

We split up to get cleaned up for dinner in time to catch the late buffet at the Inn and then our families were together for that meal; we were at one of the kids’ tables while the parents hung out together while we all enjoyed the awesome food; and then our weekend wrap-up this evening included a Magi lesson with Mom and early bath or Jacuzzi time.

That’s pretty much it for tonight, and we’re ready to get some sleep; since we want to be up early to see Dad off on his trip to Crystal Springs.  We could be in for a quiet week with Dad away from home, but we’ll let you know how that goes for us over the next handful of reports as we live the adventures; so, until next time...
