Ehlana and Ethan:
Happy 24th Birthday, Caleb Palmer!
We offered our best wishes and passed along a gift from Cassie and Michael; since Caleb will be a cousin-in-law of Michael’s after her marries Erica Bassett. That little bit of fun added to our morning entertainment at church, but we had a good morning thanks to Tai Chi by the river, breakfast in the sunroom, and the church service and Sunday school class. The usual post-Easter change to a new series of lessons began today too; and they’ll continue through until the end of June.
While Caleb was celebrating his special day, the return of sun and warm gave us the chance for an afternoon of biking and park play adventures with Naomi, Aiden, and some of our friends – though we had lunch at home with Mom and Dad first. There really isn’t anything newsworthy to offer from those hours of outdoor play time; and we’re okay with simply being grateful for another happy day. Mom and Dad opted for taking us to the Inn for the late buffet; we had lots of family and friends with us for that – including the Seagers and Drapers; and everyone is really glad that we can again have those buffets at the Inn! Once we got home again, Mom did a Magi lesson with us; we did a bit of studying for our ‘real’ education; and then came upstairs for bath or Jacuzzi time.
That’s all we have for our own news of the day, but before we wrap this up; we have a few more college-student-related comments to add thanks to the big wedding yesterday and Caleb’s birthday today.
We have mentioned that some of our favorite collegians will be graduating this year and coming home to stay; and that feels bigger to us as we get closer to that being true for Cassie and Michael. Yes, they still have two years to go, but almost-all of their classmates will be finished college in a year and will not go into any post-grad programs. That is mostly a matter of diminishing returns – that the extra cost isn’t worth it for the jobs they’ll have once home again; and that brings us to one of the comments we want to make tonight. Caleb has had to wait for Erica while she’s been finishing her Masters’ degree in Physiotherapy – and getting certified. Her career is part of our local future plans; and she will be opening our town’s first Physiotherapy office in the Med Center this summer. Erica will likely work with seniors more than any other group of patients, but she will also be able to deal with therapy for injury recoveries; and there have already been jokes directed at Caleb about the potential for an imminent rise in the number of sports injuries among the football players of all ages. That might actually happen, but we’re getting mental pictures of some of our friends feeling the same way about Erica – and we’ll hope that Miles doesn’t start intentionally crashing his bikes just for excuses to visit the med center! ;^)
Moving along, the pandemic has affected our local new graduates too, but we haven’t written about that in these journals because at most those changes have only been about delays for permanent jobs while other work was available for everyone. That will get back to something closer to normal this summer, and while being sure of that is new and recent; making those adjustments is fairly-easy for everything that we’re involved with through the family business.
This update is dragging on a bit – or it feels that way to us because we’re a bit tired tonight; so let’s save the next college update for when our grads get home over the first few weeks of May. Our school week is going to be busy, and we want to crash and nap now; so, until next time...
