Ehlana:
Martin Luther King Day is one of those
annual holidays that has little personal meaning for nearly-everyone in our
little town, and while I feel the urge to offer a political commentary each
year; maybe a bit of Magi Master context would help to explain why this
commemoration doesn’t have more of an impact on us the way it does for so many
people in our country and around the world.
None of us know everything about our entire
Magi history – though Ethan hopes to get there eventually, but some of us do
know most of the historical highlights and have other insights thanks to our
connection to God on the higher plane of existence; so our understanding of
more-recent history is affected by that knowledge and understanding. In that context, Martin Luther King and the
civil rights movement is one of uncounted moments in time when people rose up
against inequality. The Magi of the
Light have always done what we can to help – just as we do now, but it is also
true that we have been at our weakest during some of the darkest times in
history – and that’s because those moments also coincide with the times when
the Dark is in Ascension.
Getting into that is a bit deeper than I
want to go with this update. My point is
simply that we’d need more days than we have in a year – or three – to commemorate
every historical figure and event as important as Martin Luther King and the civil
rights movement. Our collective history
helps to guide us into our future, so I’m not suggesting that we shouldn’t each
respect and commemorate the people that have had an important impact on our
lives; though I do believe that what we do with our own lives is what is
most-important when it comes to honoring the sacrifices made by others.
For the record, if I ever get recognized in
the future for curing all diseases; I do not want an Ehlana Leanne Proctor
holiday! ;^)
Go ahead and laugh, Ethan, but can you name
a single librarian with a holiday named after him or her? I don’t think so!
That wouldn’t happen, since Magi of the
Light have managed to avoid nearly-all notice in non-Magi history, but that
does have me wondering what those famous people would think of their
holiday-legacies – and wondering about whether any contemporary leaders will
have future holidays named after them. I’ll
skip commenting on any of the mental pictures that came along with the
second-half of that thought; and move on.
I’ll wrap this up by again mentioning that
we don’t have any events in town for this holiday because it would be meaningless
for us. As Magi of the Light, we’ve been
hunted down and persecuted by the Dark Magi, but while that might look akin to
racism to others; it isn’t the same at all; and we can’t really relate to
something that we’ve never really experienced here at home. That’s a claim that we know other find
impossible to believe or understand, but it is true; and has been how we’ve
lived here since our little group of Magi ancestors moved here three centuries
ago. We do take advantage of the holiday
for bonus family-and-friends’ time, and if everyone tried to share that kind of
love and happiness; maybe our little home town wouldn’t be considered an
alternate universe by so many of Cassie’s college friends! ;^)
Okay, that’s enough for today. Ethan has the non-news covered with his
report; so I’ll call it a night and get some sleep now.
This is Ehlana Proctor; live from the
hidden home of the Magi of the Light!

Ethan:
It’s been another cold day, so we’ve been
indoors for most of it; though we spent some time at the lab again this
morning; and then had a play afternoon with our family and friends. That fun was based at our house; we had
aunts, uncles, and cousins stop in for visits; and Naomi and Aiden came over to
play for a couple of hours too. The
lounge was video-game central; there were movies in the living room; and board
games in the dining room; so keeping busy was easy for everyone. I spent most of the afternoon in the lounge,
but everyone else went home or elsewhere by dinnertime; and it has been a quiet
night around here since then with an easy-dinner and a bit of work and studying
in the office until we were ready to head upstairs for the night.
Compared to that, Cassie and Michael had a
much busier day with the events they attended at their college for Martin
Luther King Day. That experience isn’t
new for them now, but there is so much going on there that they were able to
attend different lectures and activities this year; and they’ve had a good day
with their friends too.
That’s all I have for today. We’re back to normal work and school
tomorrow, so while it isn’t late; I’m ready to call it a night and get some
sleep – so I will.
May the Magi Force be with you!
