Ethan:
Mother Nature was in the mood to
commemorate Memorial Day with her tears – quite a few of them. While that always seems appropriate; rain
does mess up the picnic-at-the-park plan.
The school is the back-up location, and we needed that today; but let’s cover
the news of the day in order.
Tai Chi by the river for six was a nice way
to start the day – and it hadn’t started to rain yet as we enjoyed that quiet
bit of fun and then had breakfast for five while Michael helped his parents and
we all got ready for the parade and picnic around that morning meal. We met up with Grandma and Grandpa for the
parade; it was solemn and stately; and then the short service at the park
memorialized our hometown heroes and veterans.
We were getting a bit of rain by then, but it was still little-more than
a sprinkle; so we still had our usual family walk-around and story time about
our own veterans going all the way back to the beginning of our town. I’ve read all of those stories in the
archives; and many of them were recorded fairly-close to the time they happened
– though Mom has also had as many of the older Magi as possible add their oral
histories too; and they are, as far as I can tell, quite accurate.
It was raining harder by the time we got
home, so we loaded up our picnic supplies and donations; headed to the school;
and then the picnic and play time was a crowded, chaotic blast of food and
fun. There was a bit of a break in the
weather, but everything was still very wet outside; so most people stayed
indoors or only went out for walks or to watch the crazier neighbors as they
played football or got wet and muddy in other ways. There was also a basketball game in the gym
that entertained quite a few people; and then the picnic wrapped up earlier
than normal. That was entirely because
most visitors wanted to hit the road early and head for their homes; since the
rain was going to make for a tougher drive.
That worked out for Ehlana and me, since it gave us a chance to go and
play at the lab – especially after Cassie decided that she was going to spend
the night at Michael’s house after helping out with a fairly-major clean-up of
the school. Cassie and Michael are
heading out to their townhouse in the morning anyway, so this is her last
chance to spend any time with Jacob and Miranda before she heads back to school
on Sunday; so we can’t complain about sharing her tonight – especially when Dad
needed to work in the office anyway.
Mom drove us over to the lab after we went
home first, unpacked; and took care of a few chores. She ended up staying and playing with Ehlana
while I played in the archives; we stayed late; and then had a late dinner with
Dad – which worked out for him too; since he got his work done without the rest
of us in the way. Add in bath or Jacuzzi
time after we cleaned up from dinner and took care of more chores; and that’s
all I have for today. We’re back to
school tomorrow; Cassie will be away for the next two days; and I’ll predict
that Ehlana will have us spend extra time at the lab – if we can work that out
around baseball and anything else we have on the go. I’ll let you know how that goes, but I’m
ready to get some sleep now – so I will.
Ethan – out!

Ehlana:
Ethan has the news of the day covered. I also don’t want to get into a Memorial Day
commentary; so I guess that’s all I have for today since there’s no need to
just repeat Ethan’s report.
I still love my Jacuzzi! ;^)
This is Ehlana Proctor; coming to you live
from what is now my past!
