Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - October 9, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 1st Birthday, Emma Jacobs!

Our top news of the day is Emma’s party.  We had a good day at school, but the fun kicked up several notches once we were set free for the day.  We stopped in at home to drop off our gear and get ready for the party; headed over there with Mom and a load of gifts and food contributions.  Violet put us on kid control after helping to unload the minivan; and we were pretty much kept busy for the rest of the afternoon and evening – including with keeping Zack out of trouble.  Emma was adorable; we got to play with her and the other youngest kids too; and missed out on most of the ‘adult’ fun that included visits with Uncle Rick and Aunt Melissa; and we didn’t spend much time with Cassie, Michael, and most of the other younger adults and parents.

This party was also a bit different for us because there were quite a few guests from the lab along with a handful or two of Violet’s and Dillon’s friends; and then there were also all of the members of Dillon’s family too.  Our friends would definitely find it weird to be at a party with our school Principal – even if most of them would be used to having one or more teacher in their family-and-friends’ circle.  For the record, we had hugs for Mrs. Jacobs, but then that was true for pretty much everyone at the party except for the few non-huggers like Zack!  Getting back to the party news, there were games to be played and prizes to be one by the kids before dinner; the food options ranged from toddler-friendly to a wide variety of pot-luck dishes.  We were at one of the kid tables, but not with Emma; so we mostly just kept our little gang of tablemates out of trouble through the dessert and gift-opening fun; and then it was time to play again.

Honestly, we were glad that it is a school night, and even with the sugar overload, Emma still passed out by a bit after eight o’clock.  The party wound down from there; we helped with getting some of the kids ready to be taken home; and eventually got home with Mom and Dad by a quarter-past nine.  There were some post-party chores to do once at home; Mom did a Magi lesson with us; and then we were not allowed to do any family business work before coming upstairs for the night.  Ehlana and I got ready for bed; had a short music practice to get ready for tomorrow night; and now we’re doing the bedtime computing while winding down toward nap time.  That pretty much covers our news of the day, but we should mention that we’re also into the one-week countdown to Cassie and Michael’s trip.  We’re running out of time to spend with them too – especially with the fall festival just days away and everything else we have on the go this week, but let’s not think about that too much tonight; since we want to stay happy after another r really good day.  Emma definitely had a blast, and while all of the ‘normal’ people in our lives won’t know this; we can report that Emma will remember her first birthday very well – just as she will always remember her birth.  All of the newest members of our Magi community have Mom to thank for prenatal and neonatal training that helps them to be able to do that better than was possible before she came here and began to set up those new programs, but we are still regularly-amazed by the progress being made with all Magi kids.  It is time for us to call it a night and get some sleep now; so we’re out of here!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
