Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - October 19, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 26th Birthday, Chris Rice!

Happy 23rd Birthday, Madelana!

We don’t have a lot of personal news for today.  After Tai Chi by the river and breakfast with Mom, our academic adventures were not anything exciting; we had fun at the lab or archives after that until dinnertime; and then that meal with Mom was followed by the usual game night at the Inn.  Mom helped Miranda with winning the senior title; we didn’t win the junior title; and we were happy just to have fun with our family and friends.  We came home with Mom after the gaming; took Silkie for a bedtime walk that included walking Naomi and Aiden to their homes; and now we’re winding down toward bedtime with the usual computing and twin chat.

The only news we have for tonight is from Cassie and Michael.  They are winding down their visit to Guyana tonight and will be moving on to Suriname in the morning, but since we haven’t really detailed anything about their past few days; let’s catch up with their adventures now.  Guyana has one of the smallest populations in South America, but that’s part of why Cassie and Michael want to do more work there – especially when it comes to some experimentation with green energy projects including wind, solar, and tidal power generation that has serious challenges from equatorial weather.  They’ve set up new projects for that this week along with new deals for transportation systems and co-op buying programs that will help partner businesses and charities.

After a day of meetings in the capitol city, Georgetown, Cassie and Michael it the road and headed about two hundred miles south to the village of Kurukukari for Wednesday and Thursday.  They were there for site visits and more meetings, and while they got everything done on the business side of their visit; they really loved getting to make personal connections with the people they want to help out with making their own dreams come true.  They are continuing to learn that their approach is usually surprising to many of their new partners – mostly because they don’t try to impose anything or try to extract resources as inexpensively as possible.  Cassie definitely leads the way when it comes to making friends; Michael backs her up with great plans that will make life better for everyone; and we know that the trend will continue as they work their way around South America.

Their overnight accommodations in the village were not five-star, but if they had any issues at all; that was more due to the equatorial heat and weather.  It isn’t unusual to have afternoon rains or thunderstorms roll through, but they are mostly short-lived; and then the rest of each day is hot and sunny – or hot and cloudy.  It stays warm overnight too; so they need to quickly get used to the change from our fall weather.  Yeah, that must be tough for them to get another month of summer weather – which is why we don’t feel bad for them!  Moving along, getting around in Guyana takes more time than here at home, so they basically had a half-day in the village and area before needing to head back to Georgetown; and they got back to their hotel in the early evening.  They’re still doing more work tonight including getting ready for their time in Suriname; so the one thing that they won’t get to do much of in Guyana is any major sightseeing.  They did get to do a bit of that along the way for their road trip and during breaks in Georgetown, but that isn’t the same as taking a day off to play.  They will get to do some of that during the rest of their trip, but the short time in Guyana and Suriname doesn’t leave them with the chance to do that too.  Their successes with work more than make up for that, though; and we know that they are very happy tonight and excited about the next stop and the adventures they’ll have in Suriname.

Stay tuned for more updates for them, but we’ve had enough for tonight and are ready to get some sleep; so we’re out of here and off to dreamland very soon.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
