Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - February 1, 2020

Ehlana:

The top news for today is that Brianna is hosting a girls’ night at her house with cousins and some friends, and while we’re having a blast; it is also a bit weird to be doing that while the fathers are in charge and the Moms are away!

I should back up and cover this update from the end of the last one; so let’s do that.

Pizzeria pizza dinner for five was a great way to start our night with Dad after he got home from work and brought the food with him.  Naomi and I took care of the post-dinner clean-up, but with take-out food; that was easy – and just allowed us to miss out on some of the video gaming in the lounge.  The boys had us play some games too, but we mostly watched them; and then enjoyed the cuddle and movies time after that.  Dad got Silkie for a cuddle buddy, but I was between him and Aiden; so I really cuddled with both of them for the first movie.  Dad went to do some bedtime work in the office after that first show; and we settled in for the sofa sleepover or camping in the lounge after that.  We planned on staying awake for that second show; didn’t; and that was the end of the news for me last night – though Ethan and Naomi had more fun with their cuddle-all-night, co-ed sleepover adventure.

Naomi and Aiden were with us for Tai Chi and breakfast; and then they were with their Dads for the rest of the morning – at home or the bakery – while Ethan and I did our chores with Dad.  We had extra work to do because tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday; and Dad is hosting a game day party and dinner.  The Moms will be home by game time and dinner, but we’re not doing the party at the Inn this year; in part because that gives other neighbors and friends the chance to go there instead on a day when the seating is always sold out.  We got a couple of guest rooms ready in case of the need for kid or parent naps; cleaned the lounge and re-stocked it both for that party and the guys’ night that Dad and Ethan are hosting tonight; and we had our work done by lunchtime.  We had an easy-meal; and then we – the kids – had a group of fathers go with us for a play afternoon that included biking the trails around town and at the park; playground and park exploring adventures; a bakery snack break because it was a bit cold for ice cream; and then it was time to split up and pack bags for our sleepovers – or to just get ready for them for Ethan and Brianna; since they are the hosts.

I was at Brianna’s house early; helped Uncle Adam with the dinner work that was actually a ‘real’ meal instead of take-out pizza or something else that easy; and Brianna took care of entertaining the other cousins and friends that didn’t just hang out with us in the kitchen while that work was going on.  Some of the girls might have preferred another pizzeria pizza night, but Uncle Adam had five other fathers to help him out tonight; and most of the girls loved sharing some of Brianna’s favorites – including four Olde Bakery dessert options.  The fathers did not want to attempt mini-makeovers, and that would have been too-weird anyway, but they played games with us; watched movies that Brianna, Faith, and their best friends picked out; and then Uncle Adam was just left on his own once we – the girls – were sent to bed for the night.  Naomi and I are together in a room; enjoying some wind-down girl chat and music time; and we’ll crash and nap once we’re sure that the younger girls are all sleeping too.  I don’t expect that to take much longer.

We’ve had an awesome day, and I’m sure that our Moms have been having fun too; but we haven’t heard from them because I think that’s part of their weekend away plan – to totally unplug from home and responsibilities for a couple of days.  I’m good with that plan; and it’ll give us something to do tomorrow night while the boys watch football.  That is all I have for tonight, though, so I’ll wrap this up; and get back to the bedtime chat and music fun with Naomi.

Ethan:

I wish that we were doing another sleepover with Naomi and Ehlana instead of still dealing with Zack and Eli as they try to keep the fun going all night with post-bedtime pranks and jokes, but we’ve still had a good night; and hanging out with the guys now and then is required to keep our reputations from being ruined.  We still have a lot of years left of school; so that is fairly-important. ;^)

Aiden and I loved the video gaming time with Dad last night – and with Naomi and Ehlana too.  The movies and cuddle time were fun; and my sofa sleepover with Naomi was a highlight of the weekend-so-far.  Our chores this morning were necessary; and only fun because Dad let us play with our Magi talents to help out with getting everything done.  That wasn’t a having fun while Mom’s away sort of thing, since she lets us do that now and then too, but we do always have more fun with our work when we can use our special abilities.  The afternoon park play and biking was especially-fun because we got to do it with our fathers; and then Aiden and I ended up helping Dad a lot with the work and kid control once our house was turned into guy central for the night.  Dad had a couple of fathers to help out with dinner and some of the video gaming, but Uncle Adam got more of the support because those fathers had already spent Friday night with their boys and needed to take turns with the daughters tonight.

Dad did not try to do anything special for dinner – though there were finger-food side dishes to go along with the pizzeria pizza; and Aiden’s father brought favorite desserts with him from the bakery.  Zack and Eli had an audience of guys; so they were at their best-worst.  There weren’t any food fights, but they instigated eating and drinking contests; and I’m glad that the girls weren’t around to be totally grossed out.  They led the video gaming in the lounge too, but while they hogged those games for a lot of the night; portable game systems were in use too; and Dad also did an hour or so of gaming in the living room with some of the younger boys when they got annoyed over being excluded too much of the time.  Bedtime was ordered at eleven o’clock, and some of the younger guys are already sleeping, but Zack and Eli really do want to try and keep the party going from the lounge all night; so it might be quite a while before Aiden and I get to sleep; since we’re their favorite prank targets.  Sure, that’s entirely because Dad’s told them to leave the younger, sleeping cousins and kids alone now, but that won’t necessarily stop them from trying to set up pranks that will go off in the morning; so Aiden and I are also, in part, trying to keep that sort of thing from happening.

I’ll let you know how that goes with the next report, but another sneak attack is on the way; so I’ll wrap this up; and move on to defending my room from the junior pranksters – again.

May the Magi Force be with you!
