Ethan and Ehlana:
It is April Fool’s Day – and the first part
of this update is not a joke or prank.
We just found out that Cassie and Rowen
were targeted by Gwyneth’s mercenaries again tonight after their English
class. Okay, we sensed the danger while
it was happening to Cassie, but we got some of the details through text
messages soon after they escaped the attack.
This isn’t something we should be complacent about, and it was very
serious, but the details we do now about so far are so absurd; those mercenaries
seem to be confused about the ‘fools’ part of the day. Even the kids in our class know that the
pranksters are not supposed to be the fools.
Let’s get through the serious part of what
happened. Cassie and Rowen were
approached by a couple of fake campus policemen that Cassie recognized as the
mercenaries that had been holding Michael and Tim in the old office building
last year. They threatened to have one
or more of their buddies start shooting friends that they’d left their night
class with if they didn’t go with them – after Cassie and Rowen advised them
that they were recognized; so they went along as ordered. They were taken to a basement utility room in
one of the medical sciences buildings; there were a bunch of mercenaries
waiting for them there; and to make a long story short; Cassie kicked some
butts with a bit of help here and there from Rowen. Cassie got shot in the process, but her
injuries were comparatively-minor; and Rowen wasn’t hurt beyond maybe a few
scrapes and bruises.
They then needed to defuse the bomb that
had been wired to blow up the building as a back-up plan; freaked out the
still-conscious mercenaries by doing that – especially when they succeeded and
didn’t blow everyone up in the attempt; and then they had another chat with
Gwyneth and the mercenaries’ leader, Devon.
That didn’t go well – for Gwyneth; and then it was Devon’s turn to be
freaked out when Gwyneth tried to set off the bomb with his guys still in the
building. They were both furious when
that didn’t work either; and then Cassie and Rowen let Gwyneth have the last
word when they left the room and headed for their townhouse. Cassie didn’t specify, but those last words
were apparently rather nasty; and totally inappropriate for kids our age.
We’re doing this update together because we
needed to talk about it – after talking about it with Mom and Dad before coming
up to bed. The choice of the day for
this latest attack isn’t a surprise – though none of us got a major heads-up
warning that it was coming this time.
That fact is of interest; since it suggests that Cassie wasn’t really in
any serious danger – and by that; we mean that she was more than a match for
the danger they were facing. That sounds
wrong, and we definitely don’t want to underestimate our enemies, but we also
think that these attacks are making Cassie stronger. That truth doesn’t make this easier –
especially for Mom and Dad, but we are going to need to be much stronger than
we are now to help with the coming Ascension of the Light, since the Dark will
not relent without a fight; and these little victories do help us as we head
toward the ascension.
This isn’t going to turn into a long
discussion about our future. We’re
really glad that Cassie and Rowen are okay; and the bad guys are okay – or will
be; once they’ve had some time to get medical attention and heal. There are a few things to think about for
that – starting with the fact that Cassie and Rowen needed to cause some of
those injuries while defeating their opponents.
That might seem inconsistent with being Magi of the Light, but it isn’t;
and Cassie in particular did all she could to keep those injuries to a minimum –
including getting hit by one of the bullets to make sure it didn’t hit anyone
else. There’s a very good chance that
the bad guys would’ve set off that bomb if they’d succeeded too; so she saved
quite a few people tonight – even though they’ll never know that.
Our point is that none of us will use more
force than necessary, and while we would rather not fight at all; this is part
of what we’re meant to do – and that’s especially-true for Cassie. While we are allowed to know more about our
future than most Magi Masters, we don’t know anywhere near all of the details;
so we’re learning a lot when things like this happen – including about our
enemies. This attack was different in
some ways, but still had similarities to previous attacks. We don’t know the reasons for that, or
whether the tactics will stay the same for Gwyneth and her goons in the future,
but it is something to think about; and maybe there are explanations for their
apparent need to do more than just try to take us out in a permanent sort of
way.
Let’s move on; though compared to this
news; our day here at home was boring.
April Fool’s Day pranks and jokes were also tame in hindsight; and the
fun we had at school; the lab; and earlier this evening with our family and
friends doesn’t really fit in with how we’re feeling tonight. Having these reminders of the serious issues
we’re going to be facing into the future shouldn’t keep us from enjoying and
being grateful for the really great things in our lives, though; so we’re not
going to go there either.
Cassie and Rowen have won another small
victory for the Magi of the Light; and that is what is most-important for us
today. The fun and happiness that we’ve
shared today is what they – and we – are fighting for and working toward; so
even with that blast of scary-bad; it’s been a good day.
It’s also time for us to get some sleep; so
that’s all for tonight.
This is Ethan and Ehlana Proctor; coming to
you live from what is now our past – and we’re out!
