Ehlana and Ethan:
We’re having a quiet day – and that seems
like a contrast both to others around us who are busy; and national and world
events that are heating up in some really bad ways.
For our own news, we had a
shorter-than-usual study session this morning; spent the rest of that time
helping out with decorating at the church; and then we took a picnic lunch and
went biking for the afternoon on the trails and at the park. That was, in part, to get out of the way
while Mom, Cassie, and Michael were busy.
May was with Cassie or Mom a lot today too; so we really didn’t see any
of them very much until dinnertime. Busy
parents can be fun for kids – especially when dinner is pizzeria pizza! That worked for us, and we had Naomi and
Aiden with us for that meal, but then they headed for their own homes after we
did a Magi lesson with Mom after dinner; and then had a bit more outdoor fun –
this time, with Silkie in the back yard.
We took Silkie for a walk too – while seeing our best friends home; and
then we’ve been on the third floor for most of the time since then. We had a music practice; are watching a movie
now; and our favorite collegians won’t likely be back until just before
midnight. Rebecca won’t have all of her
bridesmaids with her overnight, but she will be with Jen; and Garrett is having
Lucas stay at his house while Jen is away for the night.
That’s a social-distancing choice, but
Cassie and Michael are glad that they won’t be split up for the night too. They will still be back together with the
rest of the wedding party by early-morning; so we’re only talking about a
handful of hours anyway. We’re going to
head for bed after this movie; and won’t be staying up until they get home
tonight.
Before we wrap this up and continue that
show; let’s take a moment to comment on a few of the world issues that are big
news today. The pandemic is still a news
story, but topping six-million confirmed cases worldwide isn’t getting as much
attention as the riots and protests that are going on in a lot of different
cities and countries. We aren’t going to
offer an opinion on any of those stories, but we will point out that politicians
and reporters don’t seem to be able to let an emergency go past without trying
to take advantage of them.
Then again, most of the major news media
outlets spent hours covering the amazing story of the first manned, commercial
space flight to the International Space Station – that’s totally paid for by
the government; only to have the mission scrubbed because those ‘private’
experts apparently couldn’t check the weather forecast to find out that there
would be lightning and storms in the area during the launch window. Mentioning that isn’t meant to say anything
other than that all of these stories seem to be distractions that some really
bad people are hiding their own actions behind.
Let’s not get into a rant about anything
tonight. We’re going to have a happy
weekend, and while this has been a quiet day for us; we’re going to wrap it up
with this last bit of twin-time fun; and then get some sleep. Stay tuned; since Rebecca and Lucas’ wedding
is a big deal here at home – even if it can’t be the biggest event of the
summer.
