Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - May 24, 2020

Ehlana and Ethan:

Our Saturday night was awesome; and we’ve again had another good day thanks to what has so far been a total fail for weather forecasters that we can’t complain about because we’re enjoying the hot weather.

The campfire last night was near-normal with a bit of socially-distanced strange.  The campfire stories and music were the same, but we were also spread out around three fires; and we didn’t get to have all of the neighbors join in – though many of them were out in their own back yards too.  Our tents were spread out across both back yards; and we didn’t have any co-ed tents.  We bent a few of those social distancing rules so that our youngest cousins could camp with us too, but the rules for that are continuing to loosen anyway; and we’ve been amazed that Brianna has managed to hold all of her happy hugs and kisses in for months already! ;^)

While we missed the co-ed part of camping that we love so much; we still had fun hanging out with the girls or boys last night.  We also stayed up too-late; and our wake-up call for Tai Chi by the river felt too-early.  Now we’re up to this morning for our news of the day; and it really was weird today because we didn’t have a holiday weekend church service – even though we also didn’t get the rain; and could have had an outdoor service at the church.  That decision was made based on the forecast, though; and it was too-late to change anything; so we again had an online video message from Pastor John and music from the teen praise team.  Resuming our church services isn’t happening as expected, but we’ll comment on that sometime next week; since we do still expect that to get worked out.

Continuing our story for today; the nice weather wasn’t total, since it was cloudy for a lot of the day, and we did get a sprinkle or two, but that didn’t get in the way of our play time today.  We biked at the park and on the trails; had ongoing canoe rides; back yards games; and a couple of socially-distanced barbeques.  We did not try to book any of the limited seating for meals at the Inn today, but then they’re still not doing the Sunday buffets; so that wouldn’t have been the same anyway.

Life has gotten quieter for us this evening; since we’re collectively taking it easy tonight ahead of Memorial Day.  The forecast for rain could be wrong again tomorrow, but it is still there; and while the parade and ceremony at the cemetery is still a go; the picnic is cancelled.  There are going to be ‘picnic baskets’ that will be handed out after that ceremony, since they needed to do something with all of the food donations, but that’ll just be weird – and not as much fun as the party at the park.  We’ll let you know how that goes for us, but all we have left for this update is that our quiet night has included bath or Jacuzzi time; a movie; and some music fun.  Our best friends are with their own families tonight, but that’s more because of our collective choice not to have another camping night – and that was also because the risk of rain before morning was higher than we wanted to risk tonight.  We don’t actually mind camping in the rain, but that isn’t true for some of our cousins and friends; and then there is the fact that packing up a campsite in the rain isn’t fun either.

That’s a bit of a ramble, so it’s time to wrap this up; move on; and eventually get some sleep.  After staying up late last night, we should do that soon anyway.  This holiday so far has been much better than we expected – even without houses-full of visitors, so whether we get rained out tomorrow or not; we’ll be happy for all of the awesome we did get to share with our favorite people.  There may be a bit more fun before we sleep coming up next, but we’ll save any bedtime chat time with our favorite collegians’ news for the next report.

Until then, this is Ehlana and Ethan Proctor; live from the hidden home of the Magi of the Light – and May the Magi Force be with you!
