Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - May 16, 2020

Ehlana and Ethan:

Congratulations, Reid and Lily Spencer – our newest married couple!
Happy 7th Birthday, Rebekkah Burroughs!

We’ll give Lily the credit for the nice weather today, since we were supposed to get a lot of rain; and didn’t – though it was cloudy and we certainly expected at least some rain while we were doing our chores this morning.  Our day has been much-nicer thanks to the better-than-forecast weather, but before we get to the rest of the news for today; let’s do a quick review of our Friday night.

Dinner was a semi-major event to help our collegians celebrate the end of their exams and second or third-year of college.  We had fun with the cooking and meal; and the clean-up wasn’t as entertaining.  The canoe ride that followed was awesome; our first movie was in the living room after we were indoors again for the night; and then we – the kids – headed up to the lounge for kid-rated movies while the adults watched another movie that wasn’t appropriate for us to watch too.  Don’t take that the wrong way, since our parents aren’t weird – or at least they’re fairly-normal compared to other parents, but they do still occasionally like to watch shows that we shouldn’t; and we’re okay with that.

We were also happy for the cuddle opportunities; our movies were fun; and we wrapped up our day with a co-ed sofa sleepover.  Yes, we’re getting away with that a lot, but we are kids; and that will likely be a future issue once we hit our tween and teen years – even though that’ll just be because of appearances; not because our parents need to worry about us! ;^)

Good weather compared to what we’d expected helped out our day right from the start this morning; so we loved being outdoors for Tai Chi by the river.  We had a hot breakfast; and then got to work on our chores.  Naomi and Aiden headed for their own homes for that part of our day; we all worked until around one o’clock; had lunch separately; and then met up for an afternoon of biking and park exploration adventures that included wandering around by the river below the falls and checking out some of the springtime wildlife.  That was fun; our best friends headed home for the rest of the day when it was time to come home for dinner; and we’ve had a quiet night around here since then.  Dinner was low-key after the big meal last night; and our evening has been filled with movies, video games, music, and tub or Jacuzzi time.

We’re multi-tasking this update with a last movie in the lounge while Cassie and May have taken over the third-floor Jacuzzi, but we’re also pretty much ready to call it a night and get some sleep.  The weekend is only half-done, but that doesn’t seem to matter very much now when we’re home every day anyway.  In this case, there is a difference for us as we get ready for what would normally be a week in the city for Dad.  He’ll be heading for Crystal Springs on Monday, but is only expecting to be there for two days – and only because he couldn’t get everything he wants to do there set up for one day.  This is going to be a problem heading into the future thanks to major backlogs for ‘non-critical’ court cases, and after two months of these restrictions; that could take the rest of the year or longer to work through the system.  That might be good news for everyone working in the legal system business, but even in our little town; it’s a problem for average people that have parts of their lives on hold for various reasons.

That isn’t something that most of us think about as a major issue caused by the coronavirus, but that’s also an example of how all of these little issues add up to big problems.  We don’t want to get into a serious commentary tonight, so we won’t, but that is something that everyone should think about now; since it really will take much-longer than most people expect for us to deal with all of those problems along the way to getting back to normal.

Okay, that’s all for tonight.  We’re going to move on; finish our movie; and then head for our beds.

This is Ehlana and Ethan Proctor; live from the hidden home of the Magi of the Light – and May the Magi Force be with you!
