Ehlana and Ethan:
Congratulations, Jonathan and Savannah!
That’s the top family story today – news that
Jonathan and Savannah are engaged. We’re
not surprised, but we also learned that Jonathan will be staying with Savannah
and her family this summer – and working for the family construction
business. They’re in Charlotte, North
Carolina, so that’ll be a big change for him, but they’re happy; and the
engineering Masters degree that he’ll have by next May will be a good fit with
Savannah’s family business; since they do large commercial and industrial projects
along with the custom homes and some low-income housing projects that are
mostly about remembering company and family history. We’re happy for them – and will miss not
getting to see Jonathan very often anymore.
Fortunately, we do have one of his sisters here with us; so Jonathan and
Savannah will come and visit us – even if that won’t be more than once or twice
a year.
That’s something that we can foresee in our
collective future; which brings us to our local news of the day – starting with
the fact that we didn’t get much rain at all again today – and it started and
ended around dinnertime.
You might be wondering why we didn’t do
anything about our plans if we knew what was going to happen and that we’d end
up with a nice weekend instead of a wet one – or you’re wondering if we used
our Magi talents to just change things for the better. For the first part of that; we don’t try to
use our sight for every detail of our lives – that sort of thing leads to
madness. We’ve definitely mentioned in
our journals that trying to do things like changing the local weather is a
really bad idea too, but for the record again; we don’t ever do that sort of
thing. There’s no way to safely do that
without setting off a cascade of unintended consequences that could be
far-worse than anything we might try to stop.
Then there’s the fact that Mom won’t let
us! ;^)
Moving along, the lack of rain again today
allowed us to have Tai Chi by the river; the Memorial Day parade and ceremony
at the cemetery was better without the rain too; and that was also about as
close to normal as we’ve gotten around here in months. The parade was still socially-distanced;
there weren’t very many visitors or guests; and we were spread out around the
cemetery for the memorial service too.
There were still nearly fifteen-hundred people, but we mostly managed to
follow the rules; and there was a more-serious tone to the morning that was
definitely related to how the coronavirus emergency has been affecting us.
While the picnic couldn’t just be thrown
together again at the last moment, the picnic baskets – boxes – were sent home
with every family; we used that food for another socially-distanced family
barbeque; and then we also did our best to have fun all afternoon and celebrate
the lives we’re blessed to have thanks to the sacrifices of our ancestors. There were canoe rides; we biked the trails
around town and at the park; played games in the back yards; and then headed
for our own homes for dinner when it was clear that rain was imminent. That was the start of a quiet evening for us
here at home. Cassie, Michael, and May
were out and busy tonight with Rebecca, Lucas, and everyone else that helped
out with more wedding-related work; so we were on our own with Mom and Dad.
Mom took that opportunity for a Magi lesson
with us; we used a time phase to get more work and studying done in the office;
we followed that up with bath or Jacuzzi time; and then we had a long music
practice until our collegians got home again.
We’ve spent some time with them since then – mostly because they’re
heading for the townhouse tomorrow morning – and might stay there for two or
three days before coming back in time for Rebecca and Lucas’ wedding. Cassie needs to get her books and supplies
for her summer session, but they also need to do some work in and around the
townhouses after being away for months; and they’ll likely try to do some
socially-distanced visits with friends and neighbors while there too. They stayed up too-late, but got packed and
ready for an early departure; and we’re up even later because we’ve been
playing on our computers, chatting, and listening to music instead of crashing
and napping.
We’re not going to get much sleep, but the
end of this first holiday weekend of the summer has had us thinking and talking
about our near-future – as well as the bigger picture for problems and
challenges around the world. It’s
too-late to get into a major commentary on everything we’ve been talking about,
but those issues do occasionally keep us up at night – though that isn’t
exactly from worrying too much. Anything
we can do or come up with that might help with even a few of those problems
would make the extra effort worthwhile; so we’ll keep trying – even when it
doesn’t seem so; and we’re multi-tasking those thoughts with family-and-friends’
fun time.
Okay, it really is late and we’ll be up
again in a few hours; so that’s all for tonight. We’ll be back to home-schooling again
tomorrow, but we’re also nearly-done; final exams and testing are coming up
soon; and we don’t even know what we’ll do for the final week of home-schooling;
since our normal last week of school is just a clean-up and play time while our
teachers deal with report cards and other school-year wrap-up work. We’ll let you know when we do, but we’re out
of her now and back to the real world where having a nap is an option.
This is Ehlana and Ethan Proctor; live from
the hidden home of the Magi of the Light – and May the Magi Force be with you!
