Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - July 31, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 2nd Anniversary, Elliott and Nora Roberts!

We mention that news because we know that Cassie and Michael managed to fit in a vid-chat around their work and the time change.  Since we’re thinking about Cassie and Michael, they’re spending Tuesday visiting a fairly-large business-charity project site near Beijing that includes a factory and a community for the employees and their families.  We love that they get to visit a place that our family business has been helping for a long time and getting to see the results of our efforts, and we’re sure that they’ll be able to do more – including with the expansions they’ve already been negotiating ahead of this trip.

Compared to that, our day hasn’t been that important, but we had fun all morning – starting with Tai Chi that was indoors due to some rain; breakfast with Mom, Dad, Naomi, and Aiden; and then our adventures at the lab or archives.  Okay, Ehlana’s work will eventually be as-important or more, since she is going to cure cancer one day, but I still had fun with my books; and will leave it up to Ehlana and Naomi to make billions while I have my future as a boring librarian!  We came home for a late lunch – mostly because we worked until the rain moved out of town.  Naomi and Aiden joined us for some biking and swimming; we only checked in on Brianna and Faith’s ball practice; and Ehlana and I were on our own again by the time we came home to help Mom with making dinner.  We’ve had a quiet night since then.  We were glad to have the dinner-for-four with Mom and Dad; took care of the clean-up; and did family business work and a Magi lesson in the office – along with a vid-chat with Cassie and Michael that was at breakfast-time on Tuesday morning for them.  Some time phasing allowed us to get more done tonight, but now we’re tired and ready to get some sleep.  Our news for today might not be very exciting compared to world travel and big business deals, but we’re happy; life is awesome; and we’re good with our own little parts in our plans for now and into the future.

We need some sleep to be ready for the next day – and start of a new month – in that future, so that’s all for this report; and we’re out of here!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - July 30, 2023

Naomi, Ethan, Ehlana, and Aiden:

Happy 18th Anniversary, Mom and Dad – or Mom-and-Dad-to-be for Ethan! ;^)

Yes, I’m taking over this journal tonight; and that is happening because we’re giving my parents a kid-free night.  Okay, the Carringtons get more credit for that because they’re stuck with Zack and Eli, but we’re happy to make this co-ed sofa sleepover sacrifice for my parents too!  Before we get to the news of the day; let’s start with a Cassie and Michael travel update; since that’s what we’ve been talking about anyway.

We’re still getting used to the time change, but it is Monday morning in China, so while we’re writing this; Cassie and Michael are already hours into their first ‘work’ day that includes business and charity meetings all day.  They had a vid-chat with my parents this morning our time, and since that was after their first sightseeing day; we got to hear some of their stories from the Great Wall and Forbidden City tours.  Ethan and Ehlana have had video chats with them too, so between us; we’ve probably been given most of the highlights of their Sunday.  There have been a few pictures sent too, but we’ve been advised that we’ll have to wait until they get home before we’ll get to see all of them – and the videos.  Their work so far today probably won’t be interesting for us except for how much good those projects will do, but if you are one of the few that might be interested in the boring business details; I’m sure that Cassie and Michael have an archive for their work somewhere that you can look up and read later!

Our adventures weren’t together to start this morning, but I had fun with my family with the anniversary breakfast that I put on for Mom and Dad with a little actual help from Eli.  The fun continued at church and Sunday school, but for the four of us, that was off-set by just a bit of sadness as we got ready to say goodbye to all of the visiting cousins except for Kaitlyn.  I helped out with the final goodbyes after church, but not with any of the packing or work before lunch because I was busy with my family and a barbeque lunch at our house.  Ethan and Ehlana did help out first, but then they joined the party at our house – along with Aiden; and we’ve been together since then.  We should mention that Ethan and Ehlana’s parents took care of the drive and meet up with Jayden’s parents and that Kaitlyn and Jeremy went along to have a late lunch visit with them too.  That choice was made so that Uncle Mark could stay home in case of doctor emergencies while Uncle Adam went along to help out with the Johnson clan meet-up and cousins’ return to their parents.  They had the same kind of late lunch plan, but all of our favorite parents were home in time for the anniversary buffet dinner party at the Inn; and most of the kids stayed behind instead of doing the drive too.

We were happy to stay home and enjoy the lunch and afternoon of play time with my family and a lot of our friends.  Mom had the day off from the salon; and the weather was great for most of the day except for one little blast of rain that rolled through and didn’t last for very long.  In addition to the back yard social time and games, we had groups of adventurers go biking, canoeing, and swimming.  It was a bit different to be sharing all of that with my family at the center after weeks of having that kind of fun around Ethan and Ehlana’s family, but then we still have connections through the Ayres anyway; so there are overlaps that are close to us anyway.  The sleepover plans were finalized before we went to the Inn, so Aiden and I packed our overnight bags and dropped them off here on our way to the Inn.

As usual, we were put on kid-control duty at the Inn, but we were also at a table next to Mom and Dad; so we were able to keep up with most of the roasting that the adults sitting with my parents offered while we all enjoyed the always-awesome food.  Having Brianna, Faith, Leah, and Hailey with us was not a challenge at all; and we’ll thank whoever was behind keeping Zack and Eli away from us because we’d had enough of them for today by then.  No, I am not going to add details; and we are not going to let their goofiness diminish what has been an awesome day in every other way.  We were at the late buffet so that most of Mom and Dad’s best store-owner family and friends could join us; and we were there for nearly two hours before my parents-to-be brought us home with them for the rest of the night.  We took Silkie for a bedtime walk; there was a group Magi lesson after that; and then we were sent upstairs for bath or Jacuzzi time while the parents in the house continued to work in the office.  Ehlana and I took turns in her Jacuzzi; the boys opted for showers; and we all mixed in some music play time around getting cleaned up and ready for bed.

We’ve started a movie, but the bedtime computing and chat time has kept us from getting immersed in the story, and that’s okay with us; since the only good parts of the show are easy to pick out because the blowing stuff up and fights and chases are the only good parts anyway.  As mentioned, we’ve been talking about Cassie and Michael; wishing that we could be there with them; and dreaming about future trips that we can take to get out there and see the world too!  We love many of the precedents that Cassie and Michael have set for us, but waiting until after college to start with major trips might not work for us.  We’ll have to see whether we can do better, but even our parents probably won’t let us spend a summer in Europe or elsewhere when we’re thirteen; so we’ll table that idea for now!  Getting back to Cassie and Michael, they’ll be in or near Beijing all week.  Ethan and Ehlana will have daily updates in their journal; and we’ll all keep up with their travel stories – hopefully with regular updates directly from them!  We’ll be busy around here while they’re away, and while there will be a lot of fun too; we’ll be doing more work that for Ethan and Ehlana will include play time at the lab or archives.  They’ve been very good about playing over the past two weeks and more, so I’ll cut them some slack on that, but then I need to get back to helping my parents more-often too; and Aiden is going to be spending more time at the bakery.  That’s part of life even for Magi kids, so we’ll deal with the responsibilities and fit in the play time when we can.

Since that is including a co-ed sofa sleepover in our imminent future, I’m ready to get back to the cuddling with Ethan; so that’s all for this report!  I won’t be here for the update tomorrow night, but while Ethan might enjoy getting the control back; I can promise you that he won’t have as much fun as he is right now while I write and he holds me!  I am a big fan of being an active participant in cuddle time; so I’ll get back to doing that right now! ;^)

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 19th Birthday, Benjamin Norton!

We haven’t had anything to do with Ben’s special day, but we’re sure that his family and friends are making sure that he is having a good day!

For this update, we are going to start with Cassie and Michael’s travel update.  As we’re writing this, it is Sunday afternoon there; they spent the morning visiting the Great Wall; and we also know that their first Tai Chi experience in China was at a park near to their hotel – and they got to exercise with hundreds of locals and visitors that were at the park for the daily workout too.  That sounds both amazing and strange to us; since we can’t imagine having busloads of people coming to our park for morning workouts while gathering for exercising is normal there.  We wish that we could have been there for the Great Wall sightseeing, and that’s true for the tour they’re doing of the Forbidden City – another of the amazing historical treasures of China!  We may have more details on that with our next update, but by the time they get around to sending next updates; we’ll be sleeping because it is late and we’re tired.

Now, for our news, the barbeque dinner, campfire, and camping last night were all amazing and we loved everything.  As usual, our personal highlights included our campfire music with Naomi and Aiden, and while we didn’t get to have co-ed camping due to the usual tent buddies; we had a lot of couples’ time until the wee hours of this morning; and the nap time was barely for three hours before we were up at dawn for Tai Chi with Mom, Dad, and the small gang of campers that joined us for that workout.

The top adventure news for today is the trip to Quarry Lake.  We had a blast, but to be honest; there isn’t much point in commenting on any details; since all of the fun was also more of the same from each of our visits to the campground over the past two weeks.  Yes, it is more-fun with our favorite adults, but in this case; we also missed not having Cassie and Michael with us for the day.  We ended up splitting into smaller groups for dinner tonight.  Mom and Dad hosted one of those meals; we helped with the work; and then we needed to get ready for our evening babysitting plans.  Many of the adults in our family went to Sheldon’s Pub for a party being put on there for Anna Marie and Cal.  They babysitting got split up at a handful of homes too; and we’re happy to report that we got some of the girls and a few of the youngest kids.  Naomi and Aiden helped us too, but they’re at their own homes now – mostly because Naomi wanted to be home in the morning for her parents’ anniversary.  We’ve ended up keeping Brianna, Hailey, and Leah for the night, but all of the younger kids were picked up by their parents or grandparents; and the three girls have been asleep for quite a while now.

Mom and Dad are home now too, but they were out late and helped as designated drivers for the couple-of-honor and quite a few of their guests.  They had fun too; and have bonus donation money for the church thanks to winning two rounds of billiards – including one contest against a pair of disbelieving college friends of Cal’s that shouldn’t have pitted their skills against a math genius! ;^)

Moving along, Mom and Dad checked in with us; they’ve gone to bed; and now we’re winding down and nearly ready to crash and nap too.  Our cousins are heading home tomorrow; so we should mention that they aren’t here tonight because they were elsewhere for babysitting; and their last sleepovers are with grandparents or aunts and uncles.  They are all ready to head for their homes again, but don’t take that the wrong way; since we are sure that they have all had an amazing two weeks with us too.

We do want to be awake and ready to see them off after church tomorrow – even if we don’t need to help much with packing to go; so that’s all for tonight.  The fun level will be changing for us tomorrow, but stay tuned; since our summer adventures will continue – even if we don’t get to have trip-to-China kind of fun! ;^)

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - July 28, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

We’re doing another early update today because our plans for tonight include the last major camping night for our cousins before they head home on Sunday.

Cassie and Michael’s anniversary dinner was a blast, and while we didn’t get to spend as much time with them as we would have liked; what matters is that Cassie and Michael had a happy day and got to spend some time with all of us ahead of their trip.  Their travel plans for today had everything to do with the early end to their party, but it was a work night too; so none of the parents had a problem with an early night.

That didn’t end up being an option for our parents or Sophia’s Mom and Dad, but that was because our house ended up being video gaming central for the tween guys – along with a sleepover; and the girls were happy to take Sophia’s offer to host the girls at her place.  The teens and kids made other plans for last night, but we didn’t try to add in extra guys or girls for our plans because at least one of us did not want to deal with Zack, Eli, and some of the other guys all night.  We – the guys – had fun last night and stayed up too late; the girls had a good night too; and I won’t comment on the lack of details from Ehlana and Naomi – while being happy to be kept out of the loop for their girl chat fun! ;^)

We had a gang this morning for Tai Chi; the girls had the easier breakfast time; and we had more work to do because the guys ate more.  We’ve had a chores day since then with some breaks for lunch and swimming when we needed to cool off.  All of the work got done, though, and now we’re getting cleaned up ahead of the barbeque dinner, campfire, and camping we have ahead of us for the rest of the day.  Those stories can wait for tomorrow night, but before we wrap up; let’s add a quick travel update for Cassie and Michael.

They hit the road early this morning; they’re currently at the San Francisco airport waiting for their trans-Pacific flight to China that will keep them busy overnight, and thanks to the time change; they’ll get to their hotel in Beijing by sometime late Saturday afternoon local time – or in the wee hours of tomorrow morning for us.  They’ll get to have Sunday for some sightseeing; and then get started on their work on Monday.  We’ll keep you posted on their adventures, but we need to get back to our own fun; so that’s all for this report!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - July 27, 2023

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 4th Anniversary, Cassie and Michael!

This update is early, and we don’t have much to report yet; so we’ll keep it short and then offer the dinner party news with our next report.  That’s likely for the best anyway; since we also don’t want to be sad tonight ahead of Cassie and Michael’s trip to China – which is also why we’re working on play plans for after the party that still need to be finalized and approved by the parents.

As for our day-so-far, Tai Chi by the river was a bit warm because it didn’t cool down all that much overnight; breakfast was lights and easy; and then we spent the morning doing chores – in-part to help with getting ready for the anniversary dinner party.  A late lunch was followed by some play time that was mostly in and around the river; and now we’re getting cleaned up for the party after a last blast of work that included setting up tables and chairs in the back yard.

We need to move on soon, so that is going to be all we have for today.  Cassie and Michael will be here soon; we expect to be on kid control for most of the next few hours; and maybe we’ll even get to have some fun with Cassie and Michael before they’ll need to go home and get some sleep ahead of their early morning travel day start!  Fortunately, we have a lot of fun to keep us busy so that we won’t be thinking about that non-stop for the rest of the day; so we are going to try our very best to be happy – and save up missing them for tomorrow! ;^)

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
