Ehlana and Ethan:
Our last ‘real’ work-study day of the week has been very long; so we’ll try to keep this short so that we can rest up for the fall festival fun.
The home school adventures were busy, but included an outdoor adventure with all of us; so we had fun. We went biking to the park after Mom set us free; though we helped out with the younger cousins too and kept them entertained for a couple of hours. Warm weather made that even better; and the temperature climbed into the mid-eighties this afternoon. That’s looking great for the weekend too; with no rain over the next four days and high temperatures in the low-eighties every day. We really hope that works out; since the festival really is more-fun when it isn’t cold or wet!
We were on our own with Mom and Dad tonight; studied or worked for a half-dozen time-phased hours; and now even Dad is pretty much ready for taking extra time off for the festival – including as a volunteer chaperone tomorrow.
Before we wrap this up; let’s do a quick pandemic update. We just passed thirty-six million confirmed cases worldwide, and while the totals are becoming something that most of our friends and neighbors barely notice anymore; that is still a growth rate of more than five percent per week. The growth rate for total deaths is lower – at around three-and-a-half percent, but as we’ve mentioned before; the real numbers aren’t likely going to be something we’ll know with any certainty for years. That was, by the way, true for the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic too – though hiding those totals back then had a lot to do with the risk of revealing weaknesses to World War One enemies on both sides of the fight.
Getting into a commentary on the politics of emergencies isn’t something we’re interested in doing tonight – so we won’t go there. We’re also going to take the next four days off from anything serious and enjoy the fall festival with our family and friends; so stay tuned. We will definitely be writing about all of our adventures as we go along; and the socially-distanced differences from normal might just make this weekend even more-fun than usual!
