Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - October 18, 2020

Ehlana and Ethan:

You won’t be amazed to learn that we ended up having the co-ed sofa sleepover, but this time; it happened because we fell asleep before making that conscious choice.

Okay, only two out of four of us fell asleep, but after that; it was just easier to stay cuddled for the night – so we did.

It was cool this morning, but Tai Chi was still by the river; and more-fun thanks to Brianna’s enthusiastic participation.  Amelia came outside with her best friend, but played with Silkie while they exercised.  A pancakes and bacon breakfast followed – once we managed to get Zack and Eli moving and about half of us got ready for church while the cooking was going on.  We were on the post-breakfast clean-up; and then we headed for church and Sunday school.  The social changes continue to make going to church feel strange, but being back to one service is a step in the right direction toward normal – even if there aren’t the usual rounds of hugs and kisses.

Maybe that’s why Naomi feels the need to share extra hugs and kisses with Ethan – because she doesn’t get enough of them elsewhere! ;^)

We thought that the original plan for the day was that Uncle Adam and Aunt Leanne would get to continue their kid-free weekend until we met up for dinner at the Inn, but a bunch of our parents instead decided to surprise us with a trip to the pumpkin patch farm; and Uncle Adam and Aunt Leanne came along for the fun.  We split up for lunch; got together for the short caravan trip to our favorite fall farm destination.  The weather didn’t really warm up today, but that felt appropriate for a play afternoon at the pumpkin patch.  We had fun while we were there, but didn’t do all of the normal activities because it started to sprinkle; we didn’t want to play in a cold rain; and got into our vehicles for the trip home – though we picked up some treats and pumpkins from the store on our way out.  Most of the rain happened while we were on the way home, so we only had sprinkles again when unloading the minivan at home; and then Naomi and Aiden joined us for a Naomi and the Phantoms music practice while the parents had a visit in the living room before we all went to the Inn for dinner.  We enjoyed that meal too, but we really miss the Sunday buffets; and can’t wait for them to return.

That was the last adventure of the day for us.  We came home after dinner – just the four of us; and we’ve had a work or study evening since then in the office.  We don’t have anything interesting to write about from our studies, and we’ve had a long, busy weekend; so we’ll wrap this up with a quick pandemic update; and then go get some sleep.

The top pandemic news for the day is that we passed the forty-million confirmed cases mark.  The total new cases for last week continued the upward trend; and we came close to two-and-a-half million new cases.  Europe is getting hardest-hit for outbreaks, but, as we’ve mentioned recently; our country is having new problems too.  We expect that to get worse – and believe that is more-certain; since there seems to be a new push by the World Health Organization and other leaders around the world to end lockdowns.  We’re not suggesting that things could be done differently or better, but totally giving up on containing the pandemic will be proved to be a very bad idea.

That’s enough for tonight.  Tomorrow is a home school day, but we still want to catch up on our sleep; so we’ll get to that now – especially since we also want to be ready for the Halloween fun that will include the Haunted Halloween Walk on Saturday night.
