Ehlana and Ethan:
Happy 9th Birthday to us! ;^)
We spent our special day with family and
friends at Quarry Lake – and we had a group birthday party that celebrated the
birthdays for all of our friends – and others – who missed out on parties due
to the pandemic. Yes, that was
socially-distanced fun, but the parents worked out the details; and the
campground wasn’t too-busy on a weekday to make that possible – though they are
busier now that most schools are officially done for the summer and people are
going on camping vacations. The
additions of the second lake and the aqua-bikes and paddleboats continue to
make our visits there more-exciting; so we’ve had an awesome day so far!
There are currently thunderstorms rolling
through – which is why we’re doing this update now, but we managed to get
through most of our play time at Quarry Lake before they arrived; and we’re
still going ahead with our group camping night plans because the weather is
going to clear up again soon – probably before we sit down for the birthday
dinners that have now been split up among a dozen or more houses because of the
rain. That alternate plan to the back
yard dinner is a challenge for the parents, but they’ve worked that out too;
and the pizzeria is just doing multiple deliveries with some help from our
favorite collegians. We’ll need to cover
the rest of the birthday news with our next report, but decided to do this
update now while our friends are busy getting overnight bags and camping gear
at their own houses – just as we’re doing that now here in our rooms.
Our favorite news for today is actually
doing all of the birthday celebrations because that has proved to be a big hit –
even if those kids and teens didn’t also get a lot of new gifts too – other than
the day at Quarry Lake and the bonus birthday dinners and Olde Bakery
desserts. We’re happy with the gifts we
were given this morning, and there will be a few more to open after dinner, but
while we like gifts as much as any kids; it is all of the love and happiness
and great memories that mean the most to us.
We appreciate that more than ever this year; and hope that is something
we’ll remember forever.
Oh right – we’re junior Magi Masters; so
remembering everything forever is an option! ;^)
Okay, that’s all for the hometown news
today, but before we get back to the birthday fun; we should do a quick
pandemic update. We hit nine-million
cases worldwide on the weekend – the fastest jump to the next-million mark so
far – just seven days. Total new cases
per day and week may be on the rise here in our country again, but while that’s
definitely true in some States; we’ll have to wait and see a bit longer whether
that will be true overall. As usual, we
think that all numbers reported by governments around the world need to be
taken with a large block of salt – not just grains, but even fudging the
numbers can eventually be worked out once we have enough information to do
that. It’s weird, but even the methods
used to lie can be quantified, so while it might be years or more before we’ll
ever know the full truth about how many people have and will be affected by
this pandemic; we will learn a lot more than we know so far from the ‘official’
record.
This is our birthday, and that’s
too-serious a topic to go on about when we should be getting back to the party;
so that’s all for today – and we’ll have the rest of the birthday fun story
with our next report.
