Ethan and Ehlana:
The rain didn’t miss us today; so I got wet and dirty during the football practice this afternoon while Ehlana was happy to stay dry and indoors for both her noon-time cheer squad practice and the school band practice that she had while I was busy out on the football field. Tai Chi was indoors this morning too, but we had rain issues for the walks between home, school, and the church all day. Our academic adventures were good and so were all of our practices. Add in the dinner and study session that Sophia hosted tonight between afternoon and evening practices and the Magi lesson and time-phased charity work that Ehlana and I did with Mom after the teen praise team practice; and we’ve had a long, busy day. That trend in our schedule will continue tomorrow – today; so we need to move this update along and then get all of the rest that we still have time for before we get back to all of the daily fun by shortly before dawn. That sounds funny, but we are half-way to the shortest day of the year, so until we get to the fall time change; we’ll need to get up before the sun to have time for our morning workouts.
That gives us a nice segue to our news topic of the day; since we can’t help but be amused by some of the research being done by our supposedly-elite colleges. One study we read about was related to the effects of using time changes on human health. To be blunt, the claimed results were statistical nonsense and a total waste of time even for us to bother reading the report. The focus of the study alone was so narrow as to be pointless, but then that seems to be true for a lot of the garbage being studied at our colleges by the supposed best and brightest in our country. Compare that to the true innovations and technology being developed in countries like China and it is no wonder to us that our leaders choose to bully and threaten to get what they want instead of simply competing on the cutting edges of technology and science. Yes, we have been world leaders in the past and maybe still have some specific advantages, but that is changing rapidly; and we definitely are not competing when it comes to innovations that have benefits for the majority of our own people. We’ve offered examples in past reports, but for tonight; we’ll mention telecom and high-speed rail tech for two areas where China is far-ahead of the rest of the world. Those advantages for average people mean a lot more than, for instance, our ‘tech’ that allows a few rich people to pretend that they are astronauts for a few minutes for no purpose at all.
Getting back to our point, though, our colleges seriously need to change what they’re doing before they become irrelevant and useless to our society. Okay, that might be a bit strong, since there is a place for colleges in education, but even that won’t be true forever if they fall behind the rest of the world for passing on cutting edge knowledge to their students. Ehlana and I will hope that our future Magi leaders will not be laughing at these comments because their teens need to go to other countries for the best college educations in our near or distant future! We don’t expect that to be an issue before we go to college – though maybe we would have fun traveling the world for our college years!
That isn’t going to happen, and that’s all we have for tonight; so we’re out of here and off to nap time starting right now.
Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
