Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - September 2, 2025

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 58th Birthday, Miranda!

Ehlana wants me to start this update with my reaction to seeing Naomi and her back-to-school outfit choice; since she thought that it was both funny and adorable that I promised Naomi that I am going to love her forever before we got around to the good morning hugs and kisses.  Aiden got points for his reaction to Ehlana too – though in his case; it was his momentary inability to speak that earned the girls’ amusement and approval.  The rest of our day has been good, but very busy; so let’s get to the details.

Tai Chi was indoors due to some showers this morning, but we didn’t get rained on for the walk to school thanks to breaks in those morning showers that also ended by lunchtime.  Ehlana and I had a hot breakfast with Mom and Dad; Mom helped Ehlana with some hair play time; and then we met up with Naomi and Aiden for the walk to school.  Parental pictures were taken and shared, so there are digital records of the moments that led to the start of our high school adventures; and then we got to work on our first classes of the school year.  Instead of commenting on the education that is for show; let’s mention that we’re happy to get back to spending time with all of our classmates after only seeing half of them on Sundays and other random occasions over the past two months.  Our teachers had us get right to the first lessons; homework was assigned; and then we moved on to our football or cheer squad practices after school.  Coach Robinson continues to be happy with our team; we split our time between on-field work and some classroom time to discuss our next opponent and learn new plays; and then Ehlana and I needed to get to the Inn with our four best friends for Miranda’s birthday dinner.  Jake and Stephanie opted to host that dinner at the Inn; most of Miranda’s family and friends were there; and we helped out with next-gen kid control while the adults in the room focused more on the birthday fun and some roasting that is definitely risky to direct at Miranda!  We still had fun with the kids; gave them back to their parents when we needed to move on and get started on our homework; and Naomi hosted that study session at her house.  We dragged that out longer than needed, but then we had a bit of music play time too before we split up for the rest of the night without any co-ed sleepover plans.  Ehlana and I came home; took Silkie out for a walk; and then had a wrap-up visit with Mom and Dad that included a short Magi lesson before coming up to the third floor for the night.

Now that we’ve pretty much finished our first day of the school year; we’re starting to make plans for our schedule – and it is a bit scary how busy we’re going to be over the next few months.  Ehlana is pointing out that we’re not doing as much as Cassie did in Grade Nine because we’re not also constantly learning new languages; and we don’t plan on starting to do that – or stay up late every night studying or working at anything else.  We do need to fit lab or archives time into our schedules and we’ll continue to help with the family businesses and charities, but we’ll get serious about that by next week and just ease our way into the non-stop busy that we expect once we add in everything from that work to band and teen praise team practices.  We’ll have more on that as we go along; so stay tuned for those stories coming your way soon.

That’s pretty much all we have for our news of the day, since we really don’t need to go into the details of our classwork when we first took all of those lessons as toddlers; so let’s wrap up with the world news report.

First up, you know it is a slow news weekend when rumors get circulated about President Trump being dead simply because he took the holiday weekend off to spend with his family and friends.  We’re sure that all of his haters were very disappointed when he showed up for work today; but why let facts get in the way of yet another silly news distraction for the masses – with this story being an especially-obvious example of flat-out lies being reported as facts.  While that idiotic story gained ridiculous amounts of attention in the media and on social networks, the war rages on in Ukraine, the genocide continues in Gaza, and the fall-out from earthquakes and other natural disasters continue to be ignored.  We keep mentioning this never-ending media and news theatre that successfully distracts the masses; and can only hope that the day will come when the majority of the people wake up and pay attention to the issues that really need to be fixed around the world.

As part of the President’s return to work – or resurrection for the rumor-believers; the next political distractions are going to include sending National Guard to help fight crime in cities like Chicago and Baltimore; and that proposal or plan is not going over well with the Trump haters.  Add in the potential for a new phase war on drugs targeting Venezuela and suggestions that the Department of Defense get a name change back to the Ministry or Department of War; and the pundits are happy on both sides of the aisle!  Continuing to ignore the ‘real’ stories and problems of the world continues to be the goal of those daily distractions, but let’s not return to more ranting about that when we can’t stop it anyway.

We should stop this update and get some sleep, though, so that’s all we have for tonight.  Ehlana and I are pretty good at recharging to full-power without a lot of sleep, but nowhere near as good at it as our hyper-active big sister; so we do still need more than three or four hours of down time per night!  Don’t think about that too much; since we really don’t want to be around for future, random moments where Michael gets asked about whether he has fun while helping Cassie out with all of that excess energy!  On that semi-scary note; we are definitely out of here starting right now.

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
