Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - January 14, 2024

Ehlana and Aiden:

Happy 13th Birthday, Naomi!

Yes, Aiden is helping me out with this report – mostly meaning that he is taking care of the cuddling while I tap away at my computer.  Ethan is staying with Naomi tonight; and we did not want to bother them with a vid-chat while they are still celebrating Naomi’s birthday.

Starting with the rest of the news from yesterday, after more chores at our best friends’ homes, we were at Cassie and Michael’s house by mid-afternoon – a bit early, but they didn’t mind the extra time with us!  We worked together to make dinner, and that included Sophia and Aaron; since they caught up with us shortly-after we arrived; and the work was also part of the entertainment.  There is no risk that any of us have a career as a future chef, but we had fun; and enjoyed the meal we put together too!  Olde Bakery treats made for a great dessert too; so we were all happy as we took care of the post-dinner clean-up.

The news for our evening entertainment might sound repetitive for future readers, since we like to do the same things when with Cassie and Michael, but our music jam session was amazing; the guys got a turn at video gaming on the big screen for nearly an hour; and then we enjoyed quality co-ed cuddle time along with two movies that again had us staying up too late.  Cassie and Michael did eventually go and get some sleep while we napped on sofas or in a nest on the floor for Sophia and Aaron this time.  Our post-midnight top story, though, was the gift that Ethan had for Naomi.  She loved the emerald-accented locket with their pictures in it; and four of us took a little break to help them out while Naomi thanked him in a non-verbal sort of way that was too-enthusiastic for the rest of us to want to witness! ;^)

Moving along, Naomi’s birthday morning Tai Chi was fun; the guys took care of making her special breakfast; and the food was ready by the time Naomi’s parents arrived; and then the birthday fun kicked up several notches.  For the record, Eli wasn’t with us this morning because he’d spent the night with Zack while Naomi’s parents had a kid-free night.  Naomi had a few more gifts to open this morning; we eventually needed to clean up and head for church and Sunday school; and the top news for the rest of our morning was that we had a light turnout at church.  That was entirely due to the deep freeze, and it was farm families and other business owners that couldn’t get away from problems on their farms or elsewhere related to the cold.  For some future readers, that might sound strange when we’re only talking about two or three hours of time, but when it is thirty-below and colder; minutes can matter – especially for livestock.  The lower turnout and cold weather had everything to do with why the service was on the short side; so we headed over to Naomi’s house early and had more time to help out with getting ready for her party.  Her Mom took the day off, but didn’t expect any customers anyway; so Vicky really only went to the salon to catch up on some paperwork and other work around the shop.  We had a snack lunch that included doing that with some bonus friends that also came over after church, but the party didn’t officially get started until around one-thirty.

The weather definitely made a difference for Naomi’s party.  We didn’t do anything outdoors.  There was ‘live’ music fun for anyone that wanted to either play along or get in on some dancing or just watching and enjoying.  The guys played video games – led by Zack, Eli, Miles, and Joshua.  An afternoon movie and co-ed cuddle time was an option; and then dinner was a bit of a crazy, pot-luck event that included a lot of Naomi’s family, parental friends including Mom and Dad, and other guests.  That required eating wherever we could except for the groups around the dining room or kitchen tables.  We crowded together for the usual birthday song, wish, and gifts entertainment; the Olde Bakery cakes were one of the food highlights; and I am going to skip commenting on the food and drinks games that went on in the family room with certain guys that proved that Miles and Joshua haven’t completely out-grown their more-annoying tendencies.  Zack and Eli get all of the credit for that, since they did goad the older boys into participating in those games, but saying ‘no’ was an option; so that doesn’t excuse our friends.

There was some after-dinner social time, but it is a school night; so the party wound down quickly; and the cold had a lot to do with why most of the guests were on their way home by seven-thirty.  Mom, Dad, Aiden, and I were the last guests to leave once the final clean-up was done; and all four parents had a bit of bonus fun with the last round of goodbyes while teasing Ethan and Naomi.  I’m not sure why Aiden and I escaped those jokes, since we’re on our own for the rest of the night too, but maybe that is simply because we’re the quiet, ‘good’ couple by comparison to Naomi’s more-overt claims on Ethan’s future!  Whatever the reason, we don’t have a problem with that; and should thank Ethan and Naomi for helping us out with that – whether intentional or not.  Let’s also mention that Zack and Eli are there too, but have strict orders to leave Naomi and Ethan alone; and they will likely do that because it is Naomi’s birthday and they already earned enough reputation points with the older guys at the party.

Moving along, since getting home, Mom did a Magi lesson with Aiden and me; we all headed upstairs once Dad had his cases packed for his trip in the morning; and Aiden and I split up to grab a shower or Jacuzzi time – and no, Aiden did not opt for a soak in my Jacuzzi!  We followed that up with a bit of music time; and now we’re winding down with this bedtime update and the usual computer checks.  The world news never seems to get better, but I am not going there tonight.  We also want to be up early to see Dad off on his trip to the city, and might get to see Cassie and Michael too before they head to the airport; so wrapping this up and getting some sleep sounds like the best plan for us – even if Naomi likely has other ideas for keeping entertained with Ethan for a while longer.

Actually, a little bit of that kind of fun with Aiden seems like a very good idea too, so we’re out of here; and I definitely won’t be offering those details in our next report! ;^)

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
