Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - October 31, 2019

Happy Halloween!

Ethan:

We’ve had an awesome day!

The hint of winter-to-come last night didn’t leave many traces by this morning – other than the colder start to our day, but other than keeping Tai Chi indoors this morning; that didn’t really affect our Halloween adventures.  Our morning workout was followed by a hot breakfast; we needed extra time to get ready for school and our Halloween party; and then we met up with Naomi and Aiden for the walk to school.  The classes we had this morning barely earned any attention from our classmates compared to the rest of the fun we had ahead of us – starting with a pizzeria pizza lunch as part of our Halloween party.

We had lunch with our classmates first; took our turns to get into our costumes after that; and then Naomi spent some time in our class again this year because we’re a set; and then Ehlana, Aiden, and I were with her after our visit to the Haunted House in the gym.  There was music, games, and lots of treats all afternoon; we had a blast; and then the four of us headed for our house after school to hang out there while most of our parents were busy at work or elsewhere.  We hung out in the lounge after a snack-visit with Mom pretty much until dinnertime; watched Halloween shows; and planned our trick-or-treating strategy for maximum coverage of the town while also making all of the required stops for family and best friends’ homes.

Mom went with an easy-dinner of finger foods; we had that meal as soon as Dad got home; and then they stayed to hand out treats while we – the kids – headed out on the annual trek-for-treats!  Our costume choices proved helpful on a chilly, near-freezing evening, and while I haven’t mentioned much about our costumes; Naomi and I went with the Gryffindor Quidditch robes while Ehlana and Aiden opted for the Hogwarts school robes – mostly because Hermione didn’t play Quidditch.  Carrying brooms around for props earned some razzing for Naomi and me, but not compared to the teasing we got from frequent re-enactments of Harry and Ginny’s first kiss.  Naomi had a lot of fun with those opportunities; and I was really happy too – something that was likely obvious to everyone just from seeing the goofy grin that is still stuck on my face as I’m writing this update.

I’d suggest that our haul of treats was so large because we’re just that adorable, but most kids around here end up with enough candy and other snacks to keep us on sugar-overload through until we switch over to Christmas treats – or into the New Year for kids with stricter parental controls on their sugar intake. ;^)

As Ehlana has pointed out, that isn’t really an issue for us, but then it wasn’t a problem last year thanks to visits from our friends to the lounge.  Mom and Dad’s trip next week will affect that because we won’t be home, but one after-school visit from the guys in our class will be sure to wipe out any snack supplies we have left by then – unless we hide those treats.  I’m okay with that whatever happens, but I’ll keep you posted on that; since I’m sure that we will be having more indoor time with our friends now – unless we get another blast of warm before we get into winter.

I guess that there isn’t much else to add for this update.  When we were finished our tour of about half the town, Ehlana and I walked Naomi and Aiden home – after collecting Silkie for that bedtime walk.  Yes, goodnight hugs and kisses were involved, and there were parents out on their porches; so we got teased about that too.  Ehlana and I had a bedtime visit with Mom and Dad once we were home again; we needed to get cleaned up and ready for bed after that; and we’re all heading for bed early because Mom and Dad have a busy day ahead of them before they head out on their vacation with Uncle Adam and Aunt Leanne.

That is it for me tonight, but stay tuned – the next week is going to be fun even though we’re past Halloween and into what is normally a lull between the holidays.

Ehlana:

Aiden and I did not do regular re-enactments of Ron and Hermione’s first kiss at the Battle of Hogwarts, but we had nearly as much fun as Ethan and Naomi did tonight – and all day.  Ethan’s done a good job of covering the news today; so I’ll only add a few notes along with a Cassie and Michael update.

For here at home, the pizzeria lunch and haunted house were the highlights at school; the guys were more-annoying than usual; and the scares were all of the fun variety.  The cold weather didn’t keep most of the kids from having a lot of fun with our trick-or-treating; though I’ll admit that I like it better when it’s been warmer in other years.  We’re getting used to Cassie and Michael not being home for these little adventures, but we still miss them; and I spent some time tonight remembering some of my favorite Halloween moments with them while having fun with Ethan and our friends.

Cassie had a night class, so her Halloween fun wasn’t on the same level as ours, but we did hear that she helped her friends out with having fun along with the classes and studying today – including special meals; treat bag gifts; and Michael hosted a study session at their townhouse while handing out candy to the neighborhood kids – a joint-venture with Rowen; since Tim was busy with one of his mechanic’s classes tonight too.  I’m glad that they’ve had a good day too; though Cassie’s in for a late night; and might not get much rest tonight.

I think that’s enough for this report, and I’m ready to get some sleep now; so I will.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - October 30, 2019

Ethan:

Halloween is tomorrow and I want to get lots of sleep to be ready for that, but I can’t resist at least a bit of commentary on weather and forecasters tonight; so let’s get right to that!

We did not wake up to a couple of inches of snow, but instead of conceding defeat; the forecast just pushed the snow back into later in the day; then slowly cut back on how much of it we’re supposed to get; and now, though we are getting some flurries now; we’re not supposed to get very much of it – and the ground is too-warm for it to stay around for long anyway.  The good news is that we won’t have a snow or rain issue for Halloween now, and I’m happy about that, but it still amazes me that weather forecasts are so important to us when the accuracy is so-often just flat-out wrong.

For a student perspective; I’m sure that there are lots of kids and teens that would love to get full marks – ‘pay’ – regardless of the score they get on any test or assignment at school!  Junior Magi Masters make mistakes, but once we’re trained; it would definitely be a problem if we messed up with the use of our Magi talents at all – let alone regularly.  You get the point, so I’ll skip the long list of examples that usually run through my head when I think about this; cut the rant short; and move on to the daily news.

Aiden and I had a fun morning at his house – including Tai Chi for two and breakfast for five before meeting up with the girls and heading for school.  The Halloween fun still has a day to go, but seemed to be winding down today as we wrapped up all assignments and had a holiday-themed quiz.  After school, Ehlana and I went to play at the lab and archives – since that’ll be our last chance at least until Sunday afternoon; and we stayed late before heading home to have dinner with Mom and Dad.  They waited to eat with us; we worked and studied after that; and then it was time to hit the tub or Jacuzzi before bedtime.  That’s all I have for tonight; I’m ready for that nap; and will move on to do that starting right now.

Naomi and I had Tai Chi and breakfast for four this morning; I had fun working in the lab with Uncle Adam and Dillon; and the time phase helped us to get all of our ‘homework’ finished ahead of Halloween and the weekend.  Ethan has the rest of the news covered – including that weather forecast rant; so I’ll only add one more comment.

Halloween is great for those of us with hyper-active metabolisms!  We can eat anything and never worry about the calories! ;^)

Please don’t hate me – it’s just a nice little bonus that goes along with being a junior Magi Master! ;^)

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - October 29, 2019

Happy 8th Birthday, Aiden!

Ethan:

My side of this update is coming to you live from Aiden’s house.  He takes the razzing and hit to his reputation while having a co-ed party so that Ehlana and Naomi can attend, but isn’t ready to risk worse by having co-ed sleepovers too!

We’ve had an awesome day – starting first thing this morning with a frosty Tai Chi by the river and a hot breakfast for four followed by a father-and-son clean-up while Mom helped Ehlana with looking especially-spectacular for Aiden’s special day.  Aiden had some birthday fun at home before school; we had one gift for him when we met up for the still-frosty walk to school; and then our academic adventures included more Halloween-themed entertainment along with extra birthday moments for Aiden throughout the day – including at lunchtime.  Ehlana and I went home after school to get ready for Aiden’s party and so that I could get my overnight bag.  We picked up Naomi along the way to Aiden’s house – and yes, that was, in part, because Naomi and I were on a date; and then it was time to kick the fun up a few notches while continuing to help Aiden celebrate his birthday.

While having girls at his party earned Aiden a lot of teasing from Miles, Joshua, and some of the other guys, some things didn’t change much from ‘normal’ guy parties.  Video gaming ruled before dinner while the girls listened to music and frequently made fun of the guys – for valid reasons.  Dinner began shortly after Aiden’s Mom got home from the bakery.  Pizzeria pizza and home-made sides was a hit with Aiden’s friends; both cake options were amazing; and Aiden loved his gifts that included a snowboard and two certificates for trips to Blue Ridge for this winter.  Part two of that might not seem like a big deal to some kids, but since Aiden’s parents take such rare breaks from the bakery; it means a lot to him that they’ve promised those trips – weather permitting, of course.

That, by the way, might not be an issue this winter.  It is getting even colder tonight; and we could wake up to a couple of inches of snow by morning if the forecast is even close to accurate.  An early winter could mean a cold and snowy one too.  We dodged a lot of bad weather around here last winter; so we’re likely overdue for more than our share this time around.

Moving along, Ehlana, Naomi, and I were among the diner clean-up volunteers; and then we wrapped up Aiden’s party with a Halloween movie.  That show was entertaining-enough to keep our guy friends happy – though Naomi and I got razzed for cuddling together most of that time.  I’m okay with that; and she’s likely right that the more our friends get used to it; the sooner they’ll stop making a big deal of us being a couple.  Aiden’s Dad was hopefully sleeping by the time the party wrapped up after that movie; Aiden and I walked Naomi and Ehlana home after he saw the rest of his guests out; and Naomi is with Ehlana tonight while I’m hanging out with Aiden.

We’ve been winding down from the party since getting back here.  Hailey has Leah here for the night and needed the best friend support thanks to some of the other guys, but other than having a bedtime snack with them; they’ve left us alone; and are sleeping now while Aiden and I have been watching another Halloween show on the television in his room while talking about the party and what we have coming up next through to Halloween.

It’s getting late, but we’ll watch the rest of the movie and then crash and get some sleep.  I should get back to that now, and that’s all I have for tonight; so I’ll do that.

Ehlana:

Naomi, Silkie, and I have had enough fun for today; so I’m going to keep this short and only add a few comments to Ethan’s report.

I was happy this morning; and Aiden’s reaction to my efforts to look my best this morning was worth it!  Miles, Joshua, and some of the other guys can really be annoying; and I hope that they get over this phase sooner instead of later – though there seems to be little hope for that right now.  They had their moments off-and-on all day; were in fine form during most of Aiden’s party and especially during dinner; and Naomi and I were glad to be done with them when we came home tonight.  That was true for most of the girls too; so mission accomplished for those boys most-interested in that goal!

I did not try to make Aiden’s lie tougher by cuddling with him during that movie tonight, but he did get a birthday hug and kiss while Ethan was busy saying goodnight to Naomi – after we’d all spent a minute with Mom and Dad in the office so that they could wish Aiden a happy birthday too.  Aiden and I will likely always be behind Naomi and Ethan when it comes to everything related to being a couple; and that doesn’t have as much to do with Aiden being the youngest as it does with our more-reserved personalities.  That sounds a bit funny considering that Aiden really wanted that snowboard for his birthday – his first ‘real’ snowboard; and he can be as fired up about extreme sports as the rest of us – something that Ethan and I definitely have in common with our big sister!

Naomi and I had a bedtime snack and chat with Mom and Dad before coming up to bed with Silkie; Naomi had a soak in my Jacuzzi because that was an option; and we’ve been having a nice bedtime chat since then while listening to music.  We’ve talked about the party and Halloween too, but we’ve also been musing about the coming Thanksgiving and Christmas season too – something that’s hard to avoid when the Christmas movie season already started last weekend.  We love all of those romantic holiday shows that our Moms – and most of the girls around here – love so much.  I wouldn’t want to scare the boys, but then Ethan and Aiden might not mind all of the extra cuddle time with us even if they might not be into all of those ‘chick flick’ movies that will be on every weekend from now until Christmas.

That’s a topic that can wait for a few more days, and we really should get some sleep now; so I’ll wrap this up; and we’ll do that.

Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - October 28, 2019

Ethan:

Three more sleeps until Halloween, and I’m going to get started on this next one soon; since it has been a long day and I’m tired.

Our Halloween fun has kicked up another notch at school as we wrap up the holiday-themed crafts, projects, and lessons; so we had a good day with our classmates and friends.  Ehlana and I were at the lab and archives after school, and while I don’t mention it often; Grandma Eleanor and Grandpa Grant were playing in the archives while I was there too.  They’re not always there when I am, since they can be there anytime – at least when they’re home, but we do cross paths a few times a month; and I keep up with all of the work they do.  Mom is more-likely to work with them than I am, but that’s intentional; since my work there is different; and our favorite great-grandparents trade helping Mom out with jobs like book restorations for the chance to study and learn about things that Grandma Eleanor in particular had dreamed and hoped to do for most of her twenty-nine years! ;^)

I’m dragging this out for longer than planned; so let’s wrap it up.  Ehlana and I were late for dinner – no surprise; Mom kept our food warm for us; we ate and cleaned up; and then studied in the office while Mom and Dad worked – including a Magi lesson with Mom.  More time phasing was involved, so it really has been a long day for us; we have a fairly-important day ahead of us tomorrow; and I’m ready to crash – so I will.

Ehlana:

Let’s go with Ethan’s report – mostly because I’m tired too; and don’t really have anything to add of interest tonight.

We have had a really good day, but our normal, everyday fun doesn’t always – or even usually – also mean newsworthy.  That’s okay, and we’re very happy; so that’s what is really important anyway.
