Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - January 11, 2026

Ehlana and Ethan:

Happy 25th Birthday, Gretchen Johnson!

We offered best wishes while at church this morning, but left it up to Gretchen’s family and friends to help with the partying and celebration for the rest of the day.

Cassie and Michael have had their hands full this weekend, and we’ll humbly report that the co-ed teen night they hosted last night was the easiest for them after getting our younger cousins on Friday night and now having a gang of next-gen kids today and since they took custody of most of them since after church and Sunday school!  Our adventures with them included some outdoor play time and biking yesterday afternoon; a cooking and dinner experience that was as entertaining as it was delicious; and an evening filled with live music and movies with just a bit of video gaming that was more of an intermission than anything serious for the guys.  We talked a lot about our plans for the next couple of months – including Cassie and Michael’s upcoming trip; and we stayed up too-late while enjoying the time together before Cassie and Michael will be away again for a couple of months.

We were up early, but Tai Chi was indoors because we decided to stay warm; we had a hot breakfast; took care of the clean-up and some chores to help with getting the house ready for those next-gen kids; and then we headed to church for the rest of the morning.  The service and Sunday school were good, but a bit quiet compared to the past month or two; and Ethan and I were on our own when we came home with Mom and Dad for lunch.  While it was nice-enough for some outdoor time today, we opted for the lab or archives while our best friends were busy with their own families for the rest of the day; and we got a lot done before heading home in time to help Mom with making dinner.  While we were away, Mom and Dad got their weekend work in the office finished; so we only did a Magi lesson after the dinner clean-up; watched a show together; and then we all opted for an early bedtime.

Ethan and I are finished with bath or Jacuzzi time now and winding down fast toward nap time because we are tired and haven’t had a lot of sleep this weekend.  Dad will still be leaving for Crystal Springs at his normal time and we want to see him off; so let’s wrap this up soon.  It seems surreal to us that Greenland has still been a top story today after comments from our President threatening to take over Greenland by force if not by peace.  The new excuse for doing that is his claim that if our country doesn’t get control of Greenland; Russia or China will take it over instead.  We don’t believe that either of those countries have any interest in doing that – even if they might be interested in economic deals for access to Greenland’s natural resources, but President Trump does not need facts to back up those assertions.  He has also threatened Iran this weekend – suggesting that if Iran does anything to stop the protests going on in their country right now; he will ‘shoot back’ at them.  We haven’t written about those protests in our journals yet, and they are serious and dangerous, but attacking Iran again could ignite a wider conflict in the region and is a stupid idea.

We could go on endlessly about the rest of the conflicts and problems from around the world, but let’s just report that nothing has changed for the better in Ukraine, the Middle East, Venezuela, or anywhere else; and we’ll call it a night and go get some sleep.  The countdown is on to Cassie and Michael’s next trip – they leave on Friday for Asia; our school week is going to get busier because Ethan and the other football guys are starting winter training; we’ll have school band and teen praise team practices starting up again on Tuesdays; and we want to keep up with more play-work at the lab or archives.  Stay tuned for all of those adventures, but that’s all for tonight; and we’re off to dreamland – not Greenland – soon!

Until next time, live with love, fellow Magi of the Light!
