Ethan's and Ehlana's Journals - October 2, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

Happy 11th Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Before we get into the main news of the day; we’d like to mention that we’ve already had enough of the jokes about being helated honeymoon gifts for our parents – especially when we’re also getting teased about the chances of them bringing home another set of ‘gifts’ from this trip!

Moving along; let’s cover the news starting with the end of the last report.

Mom and Dad’s anniversary dinner buffet was held in the small river view dining room at the Inn.  The social hour ahead of the meal allowed the guests to wrap up work or take breaks from stores while most of the kids and teens arrived on the early side of that blast of fun and played games or kept busy with the activity packs that Aunt Leanne provided for our entertainment.  The buffet dinner wasn’t the full selection that is normal on Sundays, but it was still awesome; and there were two special offerings from Jacob and Jake that was also a bit of a chefs’ competition for them too.  Mom and Dad had some gifts to open; they were roasted by their friends and family; and we stayed on the edges of that fun while hanging out with our dates, cousins, and friends.

That, by the way, will be a next level that we’re hoping our friends will reach soon; since it is also getting a bit old to be teased about going on dates with Naomi and Aiden.  We’re destined to be together; Naomi has long-since convinced the rest of us that waiting to date until we’re ‘old-enough’ is silly; and everyone else should just get used to the reality of our lives.

Moving along – again, the dinner and anniversary fun was awesome; we went to the Carrington’s for the movie part of our family-and-friends’ dinner-and-a-movie night; and the family-friendly Halloween movie wasn’t as scary as the anniversary vacation jokes! ;^)  Mom and Dad were sent home after that, and we ended up spending the night with our aunt, uncle, and cousins because Brianna convinced us to stay – the girls to have a sleepover with her; and the guys to keep Zack busy while they had fun for the rest of the night.  That mostly worked out for her – and the rest of the girls; and I won’t write anything about the late-night goofiness from Zack and Eli.  Aiden and I managed to keep them from bugging the girls, but we stayed up way too late; and didn’t get much sleep.  You can also guess that co-ed sofa sleepovers didn’t happen either, but the girls all had fun too; and they definitely got more sleep than we did.

We weren’t up in time to see Mom and Dad off on their trip to the airport, but we have talked to them or exchanged messages a few times while they’ve been in-transit to the west coast.  Our day began with a foggy Tai Chi workout by the river, and while we don’t have that happen all that often; we like the surreal feeling that goes along with those foggy workouts – especially around Halloween time.  Uncle Adam cooked up a major breakfast for the gang of kids he needed to feed this morning; we helped with the work on both sides of that meal; and then it was time to get to work on fall clean-up yard chores.

Grandma and Grandpa supervised our work at home today while Mom and Dad were away, and due to the afternoon rain forecast; we worked through until one-thirty before wrapping up and having a late lunch that was another family event at the Carringtons’ home.  We were set free after that and headed over to Aiden’s house because he’s hosting our sleepover tonight.  We had time for a short bike ride on the trails before the first rain hit; and we’ve been hanging out indoors since then.  Aiden’s Dad was home by then from the bakery; we helped him with cooking dinner; and we had that ready by the time his Mom got home after closing the bakery for the night.  We had fun with that meal; the clean-up; and the family entertainment that followed – including another Halloween show and some music fun that was headlined by a requested encore from Naomi and the Phantoms.  We weren’t really planning to do that again this Halloween, but might not end up having a choice; since we now have at least two parents trying to talk us into putting another show together – at least for the Haunted Halloween Walk night.

We’re currently doing this update while Naomi and Aiden are taking their turns having showers or baths, and have a time limit; so let’s wrap this up.  Our first parent-free day has been pretty good – if not vacation-fun-rated.  Hailey has Leah here for the night too, but we’re still going ahead with a co-ed sofa sleepover because it’s been a while and we miss doing that with our respective, favorite cuddle buddies!  We’re also going to watch another Halloween movie, but it has been a really long day already, and two of us didn’t get much sleep last night; so falling asleep before the end of that show is highly-likely.  Whatever happens with that, we’re happy and having fun, and that’s a good note to leave this update on; so, until next time...
