Ethan and Ehlana:
We had rain this morning, so Tai Chi was indoors, but the weather improved this afternoon; and our baseball practices went ahead as scheduled. Before we get to that news, we’ll also add that our school day was uneventful – in part because of the morning rain and having everything still-wet during our lunch break; so we don’t really have anything interesting to report from those hours of immersion into junior academia.
The family baseball adventures this afternoon began with Zack’s team practice, and while we didn’t write much about Aunt Leanne’s first practice as a coach for Brianna’s team; it still felt different to have Uncle Adam coaching Zack’s team. That was partially because we had extra family and friends around for the first practice – including many of the parents of the kids, but also because our own baseball practices that were booked for five-thirty led to a parental plan to feed us while at Zack’s practice. The pizzeria pizza picnic surprise worked for us, but to be honest, the baseball entertainment was more of a comedy than a display of good sporting action.
That is not a commentary on Uncle Adam’s coaching skills, but is about Zack and Eli leading the way for turning their ball-play into a comedy sketch. Sure, Zack likes to win, but he also considers getting a lot of laughs a favorite way to ‘win’ too; so that might get in the way of sporting success for their team. Zack’s practice was at the school, so the girls in our family could stay there for Ehlana and Naomi’s practice, but Dad needed to be at the park for our first practice; so Aiden and I went along and had time to warm up while waiting for one of the ball diamonds to be available for us. It was definitely different to have Mom and Dad for our coaches, but it was a lot of fun too; and we’re happy to spend that extra time with them when we’re not working or studying or doing chores.
We should mention here that our parents, aunts, and uncles took on coaching jobs this year because there were fewer volunteers for those jobs after a year without baseball and a transition that included some ‘retirements’ from coaching. There is a very good chance that our new batch of coaches may be drafted to help out for at least as long as their kids are playing the game too, but we’ll let you know how that goes for them once we know whether that happens or not.
Moving along, I can report that our practice went very well and we have a pretty good team. The guys like our Dad a lot – even though he’s a lawyer; and it helps a lot that he’s a pretty good ball player too. Ehlana and Naomi had an awesome practice too; Mom is likely more-popular with her team than Dad is with ours; and the girls are probably learning more because Mom is also very good at sneaking in lessons in applied mathematics. Our baseball adventures today ended with something very different for all of our friends – a co-ed Emporium treats break. That was awesome for at least four of us, and while some of the guys razzed us about it – especially when our coaches shared a few kisses; that little break was still more fun for all of us.
That brings us up-to-date on the baseball news, but our sporting fun will affect our usual work and study evenings if tonight is any indication of the norm for Tuesday nights. We all needed bath or Jacuzzi time to get cleaned up, so we did that first; worked and studied after that; and only finished our to-do lists thanks to the time phasing that Mom helped us out with. It’s still getting late, and we’re tired because of those extra hours that Mom ‘made’ for us; so we’ll need all of the sleep we can get to re-charge and get ready for another busy weekday.
Heading off to bed now is an option, so that’s all we have for tonight. We should catch up on some other news eventually, but don’t want to do that now, so, until next time...
