Ehlana's and Ethan's Journals - May 8, 2021

Ethan and Ehlana:

We’ve been very busy since our last update, but are also really, really tired; so the full anniversary party news will need to be found elsewhere – not that we’d have covered the kid-free parts of that story anyway! ;^)

Since Aunt Leanne’s main gift was the top news for yesterday, let’s start with that.  Uncle Adam didn’t have a problem with borrowing the idea for sunrooms from Dad’s fifth-anniversary gift to Mom, but because of the wrap-around porches at their house – and two-levels for parts of it; Aunt Leanne’s sunrooms are going to be different from ours.  The main floor sunroom will be at the back of their house and have the entrance at the kitchen door, but it will also have sliding doors opening onto the porch at each end and onto the back patio that is going to get a modest expansion.  The second-floor sunroom will be something of a sitting room attachment for their master bedroom; and will also have patio doors to the rest of the upper porch.  The work will start next week; and everything will be done ahead of the holiday weekend.

Moving along, the dinner party was awesome – even with being on kid-control through the meal while our aunt and uncle were being roasted by the adults; there was some outdoor play time for the kids and teens after that; and we ended up moving the party indoors as rain moved in as we headed toward dusk.  Gaming was in the lounge after that; a movie option was available in the living room; and most of the kids opted-out of the movie because it was a chick flick that Aunt Leanne got to pick while Uncle Adam was happy to cuddle with her and they had a chat with the other couples in the room.

The adults headed for their homes after the movie, but before we forget; we need to mention that Grandma and Grandpa got home in time to surprise those of us that don’t have our special links with them and be here for the anniversary party.  We didn’t get to spend a lot of time with them last night or today, but might get to do that tomorrow.  We were too-busy last night with our cousins and friends; and that has a lot to do with why we’re so tired tonight; since we were up too-late last night.  For me, that was thanks to late-night gaming that Zack and some of the other guys didn’t want to give up on until the universe was saved – or lost for all eternity to the forces of evil.  The girls were up late too, but that was partly because of some run-by pranks from Zack and Eli and because they had other entertainments like girl-chat time and watching videos on iPads or computers while we – the guys – were being too-loud in the lounge.

You can guess that co-ed cuddling wasn’t a major part of our night last night, but we’ll survive; and can occasionally have fun without the cuddle time or sofa sleepovers!

That brings us up to today; and we’re going to keep this short – even if that hasn’t really happened to this update so far.  Tai Chi was indoors due to rain; we had a major breakfast with our gang of kids; and then they were either picked up or sent home after packing up overnight bags while Mom and Dad put us to work.  The indoor chores weren’t fun, but they were drier than the two-hours of work we did outside after that.  The rain kept us from doing all of the chores on Dad’s to-do list, but we had a family play afternoon booked as part of the anniversary weekend adventures; so we had lunch by twelve-thirty; got cleaned up; and then our house was again party-central for our family and friends.

Half of our play time was indoors, but the rain let up by lunchtime, so going out to play for a while was possible once everything began to dry up a bit.  We went for a family bike ride or walk to the park; played some games while there – or had fun at the playground; and then we came home for a barbeque dinner that was, comparatively, an easy-meal.  All of our guests headed for their homes after that meal and the clean-up; we’ve had a bit of wind-down time with Mom and Dad since then; and just finished with bath or Jacuzzi time because we really needed to get clean again after the semi-messy biking and park time fun.

That is all we have for tonight, and we really do need to crash and nap to be ready for our Mother’s Day adventures tomorrow; so, until next time...
